Associated Press :

President Bush, in a confrontation with Congress, on Wednesday vetoed a bipartisan bill that would have dramatically expanded children's health insurance.

It was only the fourth veto of Bush's presidency, and one that some Republicans feared could carry steep risks for their party in next year's elections. The Senate approved the bill with enough votes to override the veto, but the margin in the House fell short of the required number.

1/3 more Walmart employees get their healthcare coveraged by government programs than any other retailer.

There is your corporate welfare.

So much for the "free market system".

Bush sure didn't object to the government's interference with the Terry Schiavo medical case, but now he objects to government helping "children's" medical wellbeing.

More, expected namby-pamby, weaselly words from the "leading" Dems. They just can't bring themselves to lash out, slash out at the unbelievable depredations of the Repukes.

This situation cries out, screams out for a no-doubt-about-it attack on Bush AND the Repukes. Lo,how Harry Truman and Bobby Kennedy are missed. The blood in the Dem "leaders" veins went with them.

What do we get? Somnolence-inducing words that would put even the most geekish, nerdish policy wonks to slumberland!

Government run healthcare program!
It is already a reality and growing!

Over 1/3 of the women in this country get their postpartum and antepartum care for themselves and their babies through Medicaid.

Taxpayer subsidized "Corporate Welfare"!
Freemarket system, doesn't exist!

Almost 1/2 of these women are employed be corporations such as Manpower, Kelly Services, Pizza Hut(Pepsico?), Dominoes Pizza and Walmart.

It is a backdoor attempt at BillaryCare. Expanding SCHIP to middle class families. The program as passed by Congress would be financially unsupportable by 2013. Then what? New taxes?

The slender veto proof majority in the Senate is at stake, and the House is about two dozen votes short of overriding the veto. Eat dirt tax and spend politicians.

It is amazing to me that we can pay Blackwater three to four times the wages our soldiers get and allow them to get away with criminal activity. The latest news reports from Iraq stated that the Blackwater group fired on the civilians first, I saw dead women and children in the streets. Do these people even care who they shoot and kill. And now Bush vetoes a bill to extent health care to children.
Will the republicans in congress ever learn that Bush is killing them with his same old SONG.
If this country has the money to pay these bullies called the Blackwater group millians in salaries then we sure should have the money to provide health care for our children.

All I know is that I work two jobs, pay my bills, have no savings, no health coverage, no safety net, and if I break my leg there is no local hospital that will set it for me, and I do not qualify even under the meager PPP. I do not have a sense of entitlement. I think it should be like fire service, for the good of all. I am so sick of so many people saying Too bad for you, I am so tired of the meritocracy. In canada or france or even india this would be unheard of. When did we become so cruel and selfish? There's a 54 y.o. ladt that lives across the street from me, can't even get her heart pills. When did we become so brutal?

dear exposing, Sadaam went out with more class than you could ever imagine. He didn't whine and whimper to the crowd that was calling him foul names, he gave it right back to them. It whining wimps like you and Bush who have turned this country into coward worshipers and have elevated cowardice to being admired. You don't even know what the definition of a communist is do you? I went to the USSR at my own expense and was moe instumental than Reagoon, Thatcher and you than bring down the collapse of communism there. I didn't see any of you cowards there. I don't like to talk about myself and the 3 Brits who subverted communism because I don't want to get too full of myself. Why is it that you did?Whine and wimper.

IS this one of those NCLB success stories? Please, enuff. Anecdotal evidence means SQUAT, except to your apparently pathetic life. If you didn't have a 'sense of entitlement' you wouldn't be whining about your pathetic life. Asking other people to pay for a segment of your life. Geez. Stand on the corner with a cup of pencils, why don't you?

SCHIP, a health care program for the children of working families has been around since 1997. It is not "socialist medicine" or a hand out. This program was (is) in existence (but not for long?) for a legitimate need. The Bush veto and act of child abuse will cause this program to EXPIRE.

Very soon, 6.6 American million children actively enrolled will lose their health care.

Money for two weeks of useless war in Iraq could fully fund this program. And Congress still has the ways and means to turn this crime around?

Bush and his greedy rump suckers are truly anti-American traitors and criminals! What more direct proof do we need then this one of many acts of treason against our country?

Does Bush still wash his hands every time he touches a citizen of our country?

Bush sure didn't object to governments interference the Terry Schiavo medical case.He wants $190,000,000,000 billion to kill people in Iraq and simultaneously declares war against American "children's" domestically. Does as Hitler did when losing his foreign adventures, Bush has declared war on the American people domestically.

["who do you think will be footing the remaining balance of socialized medical care?"]

Tell that to all the counties that have it. You know those countries who's money is surpassing ours.

You are a moron.

tell that to the same countries whose governments decide who gets to get taken care of or not. smoker? no heart surgery for you! like to eat a big mac? you're just gonna have to go home and die! so you have a little money saved up that you can pay a private doctor to take care of you? too bad! you have to use what the government says to use or you get nothing at all! you don't like it you can go to jail because it's a crime to pay for healthcare out of your own pocket.

DO YOU PEOPLE REALLY WANT THE SAME PEOPLE THAT RUN THE POST OFFICE, THE D.O.T. AND CAN'T SEEM TO MANAGE THEIR WAY OUT OF A WET PAPER SACK TO BE IN CONTROL OF ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT THINGS WE HAVE?

The Post Office has been turned over to a private enterprise, it's a quasi-government entity. FYI, the dollar has been devalued by 50% per cent under Bush and it's people like you who don't even realize it. Just why do you think gas is so high, it's because of a devalued $dollar so that the oil producing states have the same level of income as before the devalued dollar. The government orders money by the ton to be sent to Iraq. Some 3300 tons of $100 dollar bills are "lost".you need to get a clue, live up to your responsibility as a citizen. NO MEDICAL CARE IS BETTER THAN GOVERNMENT MEDICAL CARE. I mean that doesn't even make sense.

CONGRESS CAN STOP HIM, IF THEY ACT FAST!...

They could call an emergency session, declare him insane and have him hauled out of the White House in a straight jacket before noon today. IF THEY ACT FAST. He is a dangerous lunatic, and needs the most radical action possible.

Bringing America to the brink of another civil war is not the action of a sane person. He and his henchmen have to get THE HELL OUT and nothing less.

I dunno. I am an uber left proggy and was deadset against this bill. It's more money for the fat insurance companies, isn't it? Is it? I guess I'm tired of piecemeal solutions notwithstanding the This will open thedoor arguments. I hate the stuff clinton and edwards etc are proposing! It's more for profit crap! We need to get profit out of it and go single payer, which is not socialized medicine.

Billions of dollars to Halibuton, Blackwater, and the war industry but no extra money for healthcare for children.

Bush et al should meet the same fate as the last Czar of Russia.
