I Like ItI Don’t Like It

2007-10-03-edwards.jpgBombs away. David "Mudcat" Saunders, a campaign consultant for John Edwards, is out on the campaign trail in North Country in New Hampshire and not holding anything back:

The official name of this campaign swing is "economic fairness for the North Country," but he and Cooter and the boys call it the " 'Let's help John Edwards screw those who screwed us tour,' " Mudcat says. Us being rural America.

And who would that be?

"Who screwed us?" he asks, voice rising in incredulity. "The Clintons screwed us." And, he adds, "Anybody that says different is delusional."

The Clintons did it with NAFTA, and the Bubbas know it, Mudcat says. Why, it's no wonder Hillary once sat on the board of Wal-Mart.

"The slogan of Wal-Mart is the same as what the Clintons' policy has always been for rural America: 'Always less,' " he says. (Actually, Wal-Mart's former catchphrase was "Always low prices," but you get Mudcat's drift.)

Edwards is far better for THE PEOPLE OF AMERICA
thank Hillary. At this point if you have not seen that yet, you just are not being honest with yourself. Clinton dick-riders need to get off the drugs.

Have any of you been to North Carolina lately? Poverty everywhere you look. What has the rich Edwards done for the poor in his own state. From what I can tell, not much.

The desperation is palpable! Fund raising tanking, poll numbers have stuck where they were 9 months back and in some States actually going down ... Iowa where Edwards has virtually lived for so many months is easing out of his grasp ... I am not surprised that his campaign has started singing their swan song ...

The last thing the Democrats need is this
redneck, telling the Democrats what to do.
The rednecks, bible thumpers, racists will NOT
vote for a Democrat. And instead of trying to
appeal to these rednecks, and bible thumpers,
the Democrats should be trying to get the
79 million people who did NOT vote, a reason
to vote for the Democrats.

Right now people are umping on Hillary band wagon cause she is different. Wait until it gets close to primaries and caucuses and people will start getting serious and want a real winner. They will abandon Hillary like rats do a sinking ship.
The party and country needs Al Gore, a proven winner.

Yep a "proven winner" who was screwed by the sore loser Nader in 2000! Screw him then, pray for him now! Speaking of rats ...

Mudcat! You represent the heart of so many in the heartland! And you're fighting for John Edwards because you know he really understands and cares about working people and country people. That's where his heart it. That's who he is. He remembers where he came from. No Ivy League University, a State University. They talk about his wealth. He studied and worked hard. Look at Bush, Cheney, the Clintons, Romney, most of the candidates: Far wealthier than Edwards! He's even criticized him for wanting Elizabeth to have a home she loves for the rest of her life!
John Edwards has led this entire campaign since Day One with vision and smart ideas. Hillary and Obama have followed on every issue(particulary Obama, who gives Edwards' speeches, even down to important words and phrases!) Democratic Caucus/Primary voters need to think about: Who can win the general election? Hillary, 48% negatives will NEVER be able to win the support of the people of the heartland. We can change some Southern states from red to blue with Edwards! (He's raising more money in the South than any other candidates, Repubs or Dems!) Who will actually stop this War? Only John Edwards! Hillary will keep combat troops in Iraq when she is president. That's a continuation of the war! And Obama. With the crisis issues we face, does his minor league experience in state legislature give him experience for the National Stage? And his judgement? Cocaine use in highschool and college Obama has admitted sends the wrong message to our youth. And raises serious doubts about his judgement and ability to make the right choices under pressure. We need a President who has proven throughout his life the character to use good judgement, make good choices. think Democrats! These are all factors we need to think seriously about. We cannot afford to make a mistake this time.

All your comments are right on Barack Hussein
All your comments are twisted facts on Edwards
All your comments on Hillary are simply rants

Edwards can't even win his own State for petessake! Wake up, have a strong cup of coffee and start campaigning for Hillary, our 44th President ...

Rebalfriend, we WILL make a mistake if we vote for Edwards in the primaries. Edwards does not have a chance of winning the general election.

Where do people get the idea that Hillary stole Edward's health care plan? I think Edwards stole Hillary's health care plan because Hil developed her plan in 1994. The 3 plans are all similar, so just because Edwards announced his plan earlier does not mean anything.

As for winning the south, candidates do not need to win any southern states to become president. Kerry did not carry any southern states. The reason he was not declared the winner was because of the problem in Ohio, which as we all know is a blue state now.

And before you get into a snit, I actually worked at my local Democratic county office to get him elected in 1998.

Edwards has the leadership skills to initiate and frame the agenda. He was the first out of the box with universal health care and a detailed proposal to save the environment. He's not a me, too, candidate. A gentleman because he does not distort or make low blows and does not need to, but with a backbone of steel.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 03:40 PM on 10/04/2007

If he has a backbone of steel, how come he didn't stand up to Cheney in the debate. For Edwards to listen to Cheney's lie about having 125,000 Iraqi troops ready to go, and not challenging it, gave credence to Cheney,s statement to an awful lot of people. Of course it was alie and the war continues.

According to every major poll, Edwards won the debate with Cheney.

I really get tired of the misinformed raising this issue when they are so off-base. But I guess we wouldn't want to confuse them with facts when innuendo works so nicely for them.

Edwards blew it when he chose health insurance corporations over working people. Where does he think health insurance profits come from? Denying care to people who have already paid their premiums. Health insurance corporations are plain evil but Edwards wants to put us in jail if we don't pay them off.

Only single-payer can improve quality, reduce costs, and allow the US to catch up with the civilized world. Too bad Edwards is against us.

How fast can we get single payer insurance? I'm 58 and will be without insurance when my working husband retires in 4 years. If John Edwards is elected, he will submit legislation that will void his health insurance, his cabinets health insurance and the Congress's health insurance if there is still no health care for all Americans by July 20, 2009.

John Edwards plan protects people from getting denied benefits and calls for "no preexisting conditions" that can keep you from being insured. Also, if you don't like the insurance company you are with you can change plans or go to the government plan so if your company is "evil" you have the power to go somewhere else.

Single Payer insurance is like Medicare. How well is Medicare doing? Wouldn't you think even Medicare would improve if you didn't like their plan so went somewhere else? It's a market theory strategy but definitely puts the power back in the hands of the consumer.

Read Edwards's plan. It is really easy to understand even though it is very comprehensive.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 11:29 PM on 10/04/2007

I agree with you on single-payer health. The Republican pan it because they are free market jihadists, and they can't pocket our premiums for themselves if the healthcare system is no longer enslaved to massive private profits.

They try to tell us how "dissatisfied" Canadians and Swedes are with their healthcare systems, but that's just a transparent lie. Swedes pay about $20.00 per visit flat fee, and have some of the best healthcare in the world.

Canadians do indeed have to wait for doctor visits, as do the British, but so what? They get the care, and for urgent needs, they have urgent need options.

The cost of healthcare in the States is so high that many can't afford it at all -- even those on plans, who may be turned away by their providers. More and more Americans are flying to India, Taiwan, Indonesia, for surgeries and treatments that insurance won't cover.

Why embroil citizens in shopping around for inadequate plans at inflated prices, when we could "collectively bargain" for simple, easy to understand coverage simply by directing our government to do it in one way for all of us?

If single-payer was a prescription for out-of-control fee escalation, Medicare reform never would have occured. Medicare history is the best counter-argument to private insurance industry scare tactics.

During the Vice Presidential debate between Edwards and Cheney, Cheney said that we have 125,000 Iraqui troops ready to go. Edwards asked well where are they? Cheney answered that were holding them back. That was the end of that discussion. Edwards could have challenged Cheney on two counts;(1 It would be immoral to hold back Iraqi troops back while American troops are fighting; or (2 He could have just accussed Cheney of outright lying. Edwards did neither. A strong challenge on these points would have gone a long way toward winning the election. Either Edwards was intimidated by Cheney, so he didn't say anything, or more likely he really diodn't want to win the election, prefering to wait until now so that he could run on top of the ticket.

And what is Edwards up to now? Telling Congress to insist with Bush "No timetable. No funding. No excuses." Edwards is smart enough to learn from that whole fiasco. Not every candidate has learned the same lesson.

Vice Presidential nominees don't win or lose Presidential elections. They're just not that important. You can parse what Edwards said or didn't say in a Vice Presidential debate as much as you want to. It doesn't have any relevance to the current election. If that's all you've got to criticise the man with, give up. Of course, there's always the haircut.

Hillary's campaign platform is TO CONTINUE A BUSH PRESIDENCY. She's a Republican. Campaigned for Nixon in 1960, voted for him in 68, was a Goldwater girl in 64 and president of the Wellesley Young Republicans club. The HillBillary's[Hillary & Bill] vowed to change the Democratic party and have turned the Democratic Party into a branch of the Republican Party thru the DLC[Democrats Lemmings Council].

It's not over- we are just getting started. These polls are BS because the vast majority of voters haven't made up their minds. Hillary's votes on Iraq and Iran and her sellout to the Health Care Industry are deal breakers for me.

She has been leading all along and is getting stronger by the day.....Hillary WILL be the Dem to take back the White House in 08' GET OVER IT and back the next President of the United States now, or eat crow later.....

I have this to say:

1) Senator Clinton is the ONLY candidate the Dems can offer if they want to have A REALLY CLOSE RACE with Republicans and JEOPARDIZE the entire 2008 cycle.

2) Stop and ask yourselves how many candidates down the ladder from Presidential campaigns are going to invite Hillary to be on the same podium with them. Oh they'll be happy to invite Bill in some places, but inviting Hillary is like inviting Jane Fonda to sit beside them. And if you think Rahm Emanuel is going to encourage the DLC to give money to anybody but Clinton cronies to run (like last time), then think again.

3) The undercurrent against dynasties is much stronger than you realize.

3)

opie, you are on the beam buddy. However, the "race" will NOT be as close as you may think. Your analogy to "Hanoi Jane" is pretty good as well.

Personally I favor a Richardson/Edwards or Edwards/Richardson ticket. Now one of those could reclaim the WH from the R's. Anything else (and there are indeed some pretty good people running) will be a disaster for the Dem's.

The undercurrent against "dynasties" is my friend a lot stronger than even you may think. It's there and it's palpable. Big Time.

I work w/a young man who was 3 years old when Bush took over the WH. Then came Bill (I feel your pain - but NAFTA is far more important than you), followed by Bush 41's idiot son and now all signs point to yet another Clintonian democrat (read Republican) - Hillary.

If Edwards has the balls I think he has, he will not allow this cabal to take over the country AGAIN. So if the fix is in, John, you need to break away from this so-called Democratic Party (since there's obviously nothing democratic about it) and run as a 3rd party candidate. I'll support you any way I can.

This country needs you.

Might as well get us to it Liberals Hillary will be your pick and she will probably win the White House. Then hold on to your middle class wallet cause she is going to raise taxes ON THE MIDDLE CLASS. And yes as someone posted here YOU DID IT TO YOURSELVES.

I would advise everyone to look into tax free income instruments that provide income that is legally exempt from income tax. When Bill was elected I started down that path and in doing so almost all of my income is TAX FREE. So when Hillary raises your taxes to the sky remember you did it to yourselves.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 07:18 AM on 10/04/2007

These comments show an ignorance of history. Under Bill Clinton the middle class saw a solid increase in their after-tax incomes. In addition a record number of people moved out of poverty into the middle class. They received help with things like education and child care that has been taken away by Bush & Co. All this happened while generating a surplus which could have been used to shore up Social Security and other programs which help the poor and middle class, as Gore proposed.

Nonsense. That's the repugs talking. Raising taxes to support good governance makes everyone in the country safer. It also spreads the pain. This constitutional democracy has to be supported, or it will fail. Right now, the private contractors are writing IRS rules, they are screwing with fair tax implementation and creating tax loopholes. Get the tax cheats, especially businesses that thrive on paying workers under the table, and take excessive depreciation on ghost assets. Tax Multinationals on all US income, and not allow "tax breaks" for overseas exploration. The Repugs have let business short change the American treasury far too long. We just need to get a better slogan.
