Half A Billion Dollars: Rolling Stones Finish Highest Grossing Tour Ever

The final tally on the Rolling Stones' two-year world tour is in and it topped a half billion -- making it the top grossing trek in history.

The staggering total -- $558,255,524, to be exact -- was accumulated between August 21, 2005, and August 26, when the "Bigger Bang" tour wrapped at the O2 arena in London after a second European leg.

i was looking at early photos of the beatles the other day and realized that since that time the rolling stones have continued to tour and record.

that in itself, is a phenomenal accomplishment and should be admired regardless of what you think of them.

I seen the Stones on this tour(my employer gave my wife and I tickets),and it was the nastiest sounding excuse for a concert I have been to in my life,and I have been to a lot of shows in my day.I would rather have Bjork sing acapella in my bathroom for 24 hours straight than be subjected to that asshattery ever again.

I would estimate, that the Rolling Stones from their very beginnings, forty four years ago, have grossed with record sales, album sales, concert ticket sales, promotional merchandise sales, residuals, books, and movie profits, somewhere in the neighborhood of close to ten billion US dollars, making a lot of people millions of dollars off of them in the process. It may not come anywhere as close to what Bill Gates has acquired, but as far as the Rock and Roll industry is concerned, it's one fantastic sum. No one comes close, Paul McCartney of the Beatles, may be the only exception. One thing's for sure, Paul McCartney has kept more of his profits, by not spending as much, nor dividing his take, as the Rolling Stones must do.

When I heard Bono of U2, on film, in a limo, say he and U2 were the the number one group in the world, and that they had topped the Stones, I had to laugh.
If only he was so lucky, he's a million miles from coming anywhere near close. Do U2's songs have long term play, no, will U2 songs stand the test of time, I doubt it. Long ago Dave Clark 5 were touted, as being able to knock the Beatles off the charts, and take over as the top group of all time, I like them, but where are they today, if you even hear them at all. The whole point is, that there's only one Chuck Berry, one Little Richard, one Beatles, and one Rolling Stones, as there was only one Elvis Presley, and one Frank Sinatra.
These are the towering figures in the last century, and groups like U2 and others, come and go, leaving a few works of art in their wake. The perfect example of a one of classic work of art is 'November Rain', not that there aren't many others. The absolute best is Eric Burdon and the Animals [ONE TAKE ONLY] recording of 'The House of the Rising Sun', another masterpiece.
