Students Post "Jena 6" Blackface Reenactment On Facebook

Smoking Gun:

A group of white Louisiana college students dressed in blackface and reenacted the "Jena 6" assault while a friend snapped photos and videotaped the staged attack, images that were later posted to a participant's Facebook page. The photos, which you'll find on the following pages, were taken late last month on the bank of the Red River, where students from the University of Louisiana at Monroe giddily acted out the racial attack. The photos (and the short video clip at right) were posted to the Facebook page of Kristy Smith, a freshman nursing student. The album of images was entitled "The Jena 6 on the River." In the video, three students with mud smeared across their bodies stomp on a fourth student, while two of the participants are heard to say, "Jena 6." One man can also be heard saying, "Niggers put the noose on." After the video and photos on Smith's page were discovered by fellow students, she removed the material and made her Facebook page private. Smith, who did not respond to a TSG e-mail sent to her school address, apologized for the images in several recent Facebook postings.

"When faced with heated online criticism from fellow students, Smith yanked the photos and video from Facebook."

I'm glad to live in an era where this kind of behavior is no longer acceptable to the general public. It wasn't so long ago when putting on "blackface" and lampooning black people was not only acceptable, but both popular and profitable in this country.

Rather than just criticizing these individuals for their ignorance, its equally important to give credit to those in our society who take a united stand against this sort of behavior.

Hopefully the poster and her friends will learn from this experience and be more sensible in the future.

One question and Smith is still a student at University of Lousiana at Monroe? Unless I am mistaken but such actions of a student particularly if she used the school internet connection or services as a student representing the University would be grounds for expulsion.

The re-enactment particularly by the river which was one way many African American murdered and tortured bodies were disposed of during America's insidious history of racial hatred of African Americans that persists to date as depicted by these representatives of the state of Lousiana along with those who insist the Confederate flag is just a harmless symbol of their heritage, that has been the most blatant threat to the Jena 6 students because

disposing of the body in a river
was how Emmett Till
met his fate at the hands of bigots who

tortured and beat him to death before strapping to his corpse (no one knows if he was alive when he was thrown into the river) a radiator only to cowardly deny the actions they felt entitled to as white men to do, where the questionable emphasis is on 'men' because a man doesn't hide behind a woman's skirt nor lies about something he and his lackies felt they were righteous in doing.

The Jena 6 families should be placed under protective security since this nursing student who may have participated in this released this to the public thus making herself and the others involved complicit to any harm done to the students or their families.

Now tell me, there weren't racial provocation that is being withheld by the zealous prosecutor that provoked the attack in addition to the noose of a town seeking to discourage a growing black community in its midst finalizing in a criminal prosecution not school administrative deliberation of the issue that is lacking even with the president of U of La at Monroe and governor.

Over a certain IQ, you can't be a hateful person, only a fraud. A fake intellect.

Truly smart people figure out what hate turns you into, something lower. Not completely human anymore.

No thank you.

Why is it that when people do stupid shit like this, they think that an apology fixes it? That bitch knew exactly what she was doing when she and her friends posted that nonsense. They should be expelled from school immediately! See how funny that is.

Nursing student, huh?
Wonder where she is planning to "nurse." Of course going to college and actually graduating are two entirely separate things.
Oh, and kellygrrl: Given the critical thinking skills of young people today, such things are not at all surprising. We see these little monsters for what they are: narcissitic little cretins. I hope you understand it is not so much they are unaware of the ramifications of bad choices, narcissists don't care. They can never do any wrong and there will always be someone to blame for their mistakes. That is the way their world works.
We are fortunate, also, that nothing is ever deleted from the Internet. When this young lady applies for a job as a "nurse," some enterprising soul will let the business where she applies know all about their little angel, Kristy.

Because people never learn the error or their ways, never change, never grow and become better people.

No, what we do when we are 18 is exactly how we act for the rest of our lives, even when someone points out the mistake. Honestly, you've NEVER done something stupid in your life?

I cannot believe that "kids" of all ages have not yet grasped the reality of posting on these public forums.
HELLOOOOOOOOO
anything you would not want printed on the front page of the newspaper should NOT go on your MySpace or FaceBook page.
Many kids could be haunted for life by some of the pictures and words they are posting today.
