- Senate Committee Supports the Shield: By a 15-2 vote, the Senate Judiciary Committee advanced the Specter Schumer Lugar Dodd Leahy Bill, which affirms the rights of reporters to protect the identities of their sources, to the Senate floor. Opponents of the bill include President Bush and U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald, so never let it be said that those two never saw eye-to-eye on anything.
- Blog! BLOG, Damn You! Cincinnati City Council candidates are in arrears over the Cincinnati Enquirer's suggestion that contributing to their "Today at the Forum" blog might enhance their chances at getting the paper's endorsement. One candidate complains: "This could take up to two hours a day, if you let it."
- Praise for ESPN Tillman piece: American Journalism Review captures the making-of. And note reporter Mike Fish's full spectrum approach: "A 19,000-word, four-part series posted on ESPN.com in July 2006, it's a journalistic goliath, a painstaking multimedia venture" that includes, "vivid anecdotes, document descriptions, interactive maps, timelines and videos."
