TIME: You've said the three sex scenes in the film were harder to shoot than the martial arts scenes in Crouching Tiger. Why?

Lee: I'm a shy human being. I don't make pornos so I'd never done that before. To verbalize the feelings and lead the actors through those acts and witness how much they devote to it, it's very painful. Usually we don't go there. I don't intend to go there again. After half a day's shooting we had to stop, it was so exhausting. You're so hyper... emotionally, sexually, everything is so charged up.

The one scene I hated in Brokeback Mountain was when the cowboy sodomized his wife. He flipped her over and it looked like he was forcing himself on her.
I'm surprised no one complained about that. No woman should be forced into doing it that way. And she had a miserable look on her face.
As for the gay sex, that was no big deal at all! It wasn't offensive, but the scene with him and his wife was.

The scene had its intended effect, perhaps?

Yeah, I guess it did! I mean....the gay sex was consentual, as all sex should be, so that was cool.
But the sex scene with the cowboy and his wife didn't seem consentual and that's why it bothered me.
He was pretending his wife was actually his cowboy lover--hence the sodomy. It was wrong because she wasn't enjoying it, she didn't initiate it and she obviously didn't like it. But she passively accepted what he was doing. It was a very sad scene in the film.

Ang Lee rocks.

Could anyone else have made "The Ice Storm"?

This is one of the most excruciatingly boring movies I have seen in a long time.

Though not quite as bad as Brad Pitt's Jesse James claptrap( I almost divorced my wife after she made me sit through it),it's bad enough.
