Barack Obama has an unexpected ally in the spat over his decision to stop wearing an American flag lapel pin, which he says has become a substitute for "true patriotism" since 9/11.

Chris Wallace, host of Fox News Sunday, said this morning that he doesn't wear a flag pin either "because I kind of agree [with Obama] to the extent that I think that you can be a true patriot and not wear it."

Fox News has been covering Obama's flag pin comments heavily today, far more than the other cable news nets. At one point, Fox legal correspondent Judge Andrew Napolitano declared that Obama was "disrespecting the American flag" to appeal "to a hard-left audience." (Strangely, Napolitano voiced the very opposite opinion during the same segment. "I don't think it makes you less patriotic at all," he said. "I don't wear the pin, and I'm a patriot." Huh?)

It sure seems odd that Fox News would even BOTHER discussing ANYTHING that Obama did or didn't do seeing as how he is supposedly losing in the National polls to Hillary by 30 pts.

Do you suppose they may be a bit concerned that he just might WIN if the media doesn't STOP him first?

Thanks to Chris Wallace for his support of Obama's words.

you re right. I think Hillary leading by 30% points is bullshit!! Amazing, considering that is a 10% jump after the lieberman/kyl iran vote.

Another thing, i didn't believe the paid off MSM earlier polls.

I don't like it when people try to manipulate me. I had Hillary as one of my choices, before the manipulation.

Do you know was notorious for wearing the flag pins?
The Answer is the ultimate Orwellian Government in the History -- The Politburo of USSR.

I have a few from my trip to the now-failed USSR. They remind me of just how empty gestures of patriotism are when the government is so out-of-touch with its people. I'd like to say I see no parallels here, but I cannot.
Outward displays of patriotism are fine if they are sincere, but to criticize someone for choosing not to do so is the un-American thing, not the choice to go without such trinkets. Is this the best the right-wing can do? Pathetic.

GW Bush wears the pin and he's a traitor. Scooter Libby a convicted traitor wears the pin. And so on and so on.

I am SO glad this trend is starting to stop. It should have been put to sleep when every single Sept 12th flag decal on your car began to turn pink white and green.

There's a very slim line between nationalism and fascism.

And this whole flag deal was never about patriotism. I believe the term is called "jingoism"!
