Kim Jong Il: "I'm An Internet Expert"

First Posted: 03/28/08 03:45 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 01:15 PM ET

AP:

North Korean leader Kim Jong Il called himself an "Internet expert" during summit talks with South Korea's president this week, a news report said Friday.

The reclusive leader made the remark after South Korean President Roh Moo-hyun asked that South Korean companies operating at an industrial park in the North Korean city of Kaesong be allowed to use the Internet, Yonhap news agency reported, without citing any source.

"I'm an Internet expert too. It's all right to wire the industrial zone only, but there are many problems if other regions of the North are wired," Kim told Roh, according to Yonhap.

Translation of the Korean word 'knowledgeable' to the English word 'expert' seems intentionally incorrect. And, what passes for 'Internet expert' in North Korea is much different than the same standard in most Western nations.

Kim Jong Il has moved light years in a relatively brief period of time to agree to a summit with South Korea, and to shut down its nuclear program. That progress, though just first steps, should be given some respect.

Oprah should cut Jong Il a break and be thankful for his efforts to emerge from isolation. There is no reason to make a joke out of a bad translation, or to mock someone who is unaccustomed to performing on the world stage.

Its amazing how 'sick' this man is! An internet expert? Only thing he's been known to do is to regress the poor citizens of his country a 100 years back! Get real old wicked man!

Isnt it amazing that a backwards place like North Korea has a smarter dictator than we do? Kim Jon is an internet expert and George Bush probably doesn't know the first thing about the internet. The Bush twins don't either. They are not even funny and they were not forced to join the military. The Bush twins are evil!

They are evil because, according to you, they don't know the first thing about the internet and they were not forced to join the military. Last I checked, no one was forced to join the military. Oh....and you need to get some therapy.

HOST: I’m curious, have you ever googled anybody? Do you use Google?

BUSH: Occasionally. One of the things I’ve used on the Google is to pull up maps. It’s very interesting to see — I’ve forgot the name of the program — but you get the satellite, and you can — like, I kinda like to look at the ranch. It remind me of where I wanna be sometimes.

Why does Kim Jong Il always play the "one up" game with us?

It's really time to stay out of Korean politics. They can handle the border situation on their own.
The problems were generated 100 years ago, and America least understands them.

I agree, we should practice our policy of not sticking our big honking noses in other peoples business. We should sit back and watch. Cheer if peace erupts, or get involved if the romance goes sour. Either way, it's their problem. I'm sure they have adults there who can work it out.

Great idea, just sit there and watch that ego maniac starve his people while he develops a nuke or ten. I thought liberals were compassionate.

I'd like to look at this guy as something to scoff at but the truth is He is crazy and dealing with an idiot on our side of the table He has lowered our guard in the past and will play this president, hungry for some success, like a bass
10:42 AM on 10/08/2007
Actually, it would be the LAST president he played the fool. This one has at least stood his ground. Time will tell whether the current situation is as much of an improvement as it seems, or if it is just another game that Kim Jong likes to play.
