U.S. Military Captures At Least Six Al-Qaeda Media Centers In Iraq

First Posted: 03/28/08 03:45 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 01:15 PM ET

USA Today:

The U.S. military says it has captured at least six al-Qaeda media centers in Iraq and arrested 20 suspected propaganda leaders since June.

The seizures of the centers underscore the importance al-Qaeda has placed on media, primarily the Internet, as a tool to communicate to its members and use against U.S. forces in Iraq. The group's media emphasis continues to increase, intelligence analysts say.

I saw "In the Valley Of Elah" yesterday. Great movie, finally someone in America is starting to tell the truth about the war in Iraq and the "heroes" who are fighting it...

I think you guys should all fly your flags upside down.

PS. I heard the movie was a big flop in the US (it's actually a big hit anywhere else), so, it looks as if Americans really don't want to know the truth. Sad.

MSM seems to be avoiding the very good news from Iraq for Iraqi and bad news for Bush/Cheney. Various factions, despite the best efforts of military contractors to keep the violence going, have begun to agree amongst themselves to stop the various militancies.

The Iraqi people want to control their own destiny WITHOUT the occupation of U.S. forces and the agitation stimulated by military contractors.

Here's the problem for the American people in all of this. The U.S. could have left after the downfall of Saddam Hussein. Instead, Bush/Cheney decided to stay and make a grab for control of Iraqi oil. And in doing so, destabilized Iraq even further doing far more damage and causing much greater loss of life that was completely unnecessary. This "end-game" makes the U.S. truly the villian in this stupid foreign policy MISTAKE.

True, Saddam was a brutal SOB but so is a cabal of greedy fools who attempt to benefit from the misfortune of the Iraq people.

Unless the U.S. undermines this new Iraqi cooperation, look for peace to break out in Iraq, very soon.

PuffPosters are so upset about Al Qaeda not being able to broadcast...

...while at the same time doing all they can to get Rush Limbaugh off the air.

Liberals are always on the wrong side.
04:32 PM on 10/05/2007
On the wrong side of what, are you saying Huffposters should be in support of Limbaugh, no one could be that fucking stupid. I read a lot of posts here and some I agree with and some are really out to lunch, but I think that is the stupidest, most ridiculous and ignorant statement I have ever read. When has anyone on here been “for” Al Qaeda, we just want the truth, not another buggy man in the closet to keep American’s scared and ready to give up more of our freedoms, yes those same freedoms our kids are dieing to protect. Regardless weather you agree or disagree with what Limbaugh on the issues, it is the way he promotes a mob mentality in his followers and exhibits total malice towards those who disagree with him that is so destructive. Calling him a pig would be a great injustice to pigs everywhere.

I was going to write more, but you wouldn't understand that either. Go play with your xbox and stop bothering the adults.

Finally, they've gotten the Ninny Nancy Pelosi AQI Call-In Show off the air! Worse than Tokyo Rose, Geez.

The Dingy Harry Animal Husbandry Demonstration Hour was closed down also. PETA has sent a letter of thanks to Al Maliki.

Dearest Ammobob,

Are you trying to say that the Speaker of the House of Representatives is engaged in sedition through her speeches? Are you also trying to imply something nasty about the Majority Leader of the United States Senate?

Or are you just demonstrating your amazing ability to not think for yourself and to spout off whatever obnoxious drivel that comes to your pea-sized brain from the right-wing echo chamber? I think that's it.

Why don't you do everyone a favor - shave your butt and go visit The Man With The Anal Cyst. You're a little old for his taste, but the freshly shaved smoothness should make up for it.

Well, looks like Bush's version of "democracy" is spreading across Iraq. You must broadcast and report only what the American Junta wants you to report. State controlled media. And if you don't like it, they'll have the FCC heavily fine you.

Viva la Democracy!!!!!

And you can own as many American guns as you want! Courtesy of Herr Petraeus.

Karl Rove is rumoured to be in-country floating some feelers to see if there may be any interest in a new and improved Woodrow the Woodsman program.

Oh and......

P.S. AmmoBob is the world's dumbest person. He just described how the Bush administration manages to have just enough casualties in the Middle East to insure we never win AND never lose. A perfect state of stasis.

He fingered this out all by himself. After 5 years. Brilliant Bob.

He attributes it to better training and equipment not the lack of an opposing army.

Forget what I said about pills and booze Bob. Even they can't cause your level of hallucination.

Although the media gets obsessed with U.S. casualties in Iraq and Afghanistan, the reporting tends to ignore the fact that those casualties are the lowest in history, any army's history. Put simply, troops are half as likely to be killed or wounded in Iraq, as they would have been in Vietnam or World War II. A combination of better equipment, training and leadership made it happen. These are trends that have been going on for decades. The lower casualties make a big difference, especially for troops who have gone back to Iraq or Afghanistan several times. But the recruiters know that there's enough real danger there to attract young men looking for some adventure, but not so much that most potential recruits would be put off by it. "Extreme" (very dangerous) sports have become much more popular in the last few decades, and for many young men, modern combat is in that league, plus you get to kill people. Most reporters have forgotten how teenage males think. The recruiters haven't, and the U.S. Marine Corps consistently exceeds it recruiting goals by emphasizing the danger and challenges. The end result is that it's more difficult to recruit for support jobs, than for the combat ones.

"Put simply, troops are half as likely to be killed or wounded in Iraq"

What a great comfort you would be to the families of soldiers serving in Iraq. You could tell them their child is only "half as likely to die". You should volunteer to counsel families with children there. I'm sure they'd LOVE to meet you.

BTW you got ammo bob why are you still here in the states?

Yeah, life expectancy was less than 240 days during WWII. Compared to that Iraq's a cakewalk.

So, Ammo-Man, what conservative think-tank supplied you with this "talking point": Emphasize the fact that Iraq is MUCH safer for GI's and other wars...

Nice little ending, distract off the main point by pointing out that Marine recruiters "sell" the danger to dumbass 18 year olds.

Paid shills like you are what keep me coming back to HuffPo instead of getting a real life.

October 4, 2007: The U.S. Army again achieved its recruiting goal (80,000 new recruits) for fiscal 2007 (that ended on September 30). That will also be the goal for 2008 as well, unless the army is given permission, and several billion dollars, to speed up their expansion of 13.5 percent (from 482,000 to 547,000), by doing that in four years instead of five.

The army recruiting effort is unprecedented for wartime. Never in American history has a war this long, been sustained with only volunteers. Party politics and media concentration on that has prevented the story behind this from getting out much. There are several reasons for the army recruiting success.
03:39 PM on 10/05/2007
WASHINGTON: Nearly 12 percent of U.S. Army recruits who entered basic training this year needed a special waiver for those with criminal records, a dramatic increase over last year and more than twice the percentage four years ago, according to new Army statistics obtained by the Globe.

"There are several reasons for the army recruiting success."

Nope, basically what did the trick was more $$$ and very relaxed standards. Some "patriots" they are recruiting...

Iraq MP found at al Qaeda meeting - U.S. military -- [Reuters]

A spokesman for the Iraqi parliament said the lawmaker was from the assembly’s main Sunni Arab bloc. The man was held after a raid in the Sunni Arab town of Sharqat, 260 km (160 miles) northwest of Baghdad, in volatile Salahuddin province on Sept. 29, the U.S. military said in an email in response to queries from Reuters. “The man being held is one of the 275 members of the Iraqi Council of Representatives,” the military said. “Officially, he is not considered a ‘detainee’ at this time. He is being held for questioning after being found at a suspected al Qaeda in Iraq meeting during a combined Iraqi Security Forces/Coalition operation,” it said.
The military said it would not release the man’s name. It is believed to be the first time a member of Iraq’s parliament has been detained by Iraqi or U.S. forces.
