NEW YORK - Hillary Rodham Clinton has strengthened her position as the front-runner for the Democratic presidential nomination. But her strong showing nationally belies a much closer race in Iowa, where she is in a tight three-way contest with Barack Obama and John Edwards.

A new AP-Ipsos poll shows Clinton ahead of Obama, her closest rival, by more than 20 points -- 46 percent to 25 percent.

According to Des moine register poll Hilary is on top in IOWA. I guess Huff post does not think it is important news. If there is any bad news for hilary it gets posted at the speed of light.

If it is a dead heat or narrow lead, this is a great advantage since Edwards has been camped out in Iowa for three years. We'll all be toasting Hill with a glass of ethanol in Jan.

Are a small states like Iowa and New Hampshire and a small percentage of the voters in this country once again going to be able to chose the looser, like they have done in the past.

Here's another inconvenient truth for The Huffington Post (aka Obama Blog) courtesy of the Des Moines Register:

"Hillary Clinton has climbed into first place in a new Des Moines Register poll of Iowans expected to participate in the state"s Democratic presidential caucuses, with John Edwards and Barack Obama both in striking distance.

The Iowa Poll shows 29 percent of likely caucusgoers preferring Clinton, a New York senator, an improvement from the Register"s most recent poll in May.

Edwards was the choice of 23 percent in the new poll, slipping from the top spot since the May survey to nearly even with Obama.

Obama, an Illinois senator, was at 22 percent , virtually unchanged from May."

Wake up people! The Clinton machine is using their own pollsters and MSM to promote the poll numbers in order to work on our "false consciousness". In other words, if they keep telling us that she is leading in national polls then we will believe it and give up on making our own decision. Research what happened in the recent Costa Rican elections.

Remember that polls are very manipulating. They depend on the question asked and how many people. Example: Would you be open to voting for a woman as President? So you would consider Hillary Clinton? 100 people questioned out of 300 million Americans...Need I say more!

Only stupid people do not believe in polls, The stupidiest say i have never been polled , Of course and you would probably never be, They use a grid of the social spectrum and then fine tuning to compensate for the phone methodology.

They have been doing it for years and they really have an inside of how to get opinion out of the people.

They have been working on purifying the sampling and they got it very good each have a different approach and of course the cell phone problem is a valid issue AND THEY WORK VERY HARD TO COMPENSATE

They are good, they know their business and they earn the big money they make

The smart stupid ones say that there is a conspiracy to alter and make us vote in a way because we are so stupid that we will vote for the one all of them agree to put at the top, nonsense Gallup, Zogby, Ramunsen Pew have they reputation as their main asset the day they sell a poll they are out of business. Remember political polling is peanuts is marketing were the money is, and also the possibility of corruption they just do not sell fake polls is no good for business.

I don't think HuffPo favors any candidate. I have seen posts here critical of Obama and Edwards.

It is just that many people want a Democrat in the White House with progressive values that has the desire to make changes that will benefit the American people at large and not some Corporate Conservative Trojan Horse who is interested in maintaining the Status Quo to the detriment of the Nation.

If I felt Hillary Clinton had qualities that would better the conditions in the United States I would wholeheartedly support her, but I was already fooled once by her spouse and I have no trust in the Clinton Dynasty's interest in making things better for anyone other than those that Bush wanted to.

As for the Des Moines Register, until I know who owns it, and what political faction controls it, I'm not interested in what it has to say.

The above was meant to be a reply to the comment suggesting that the national polls the consistently show Hillary leading Obama by about 20% are wrong. Seems to me that the '08 prsidential polling nationally and in Iowa is trending in Hillary's direction. I'm not so sure that it wouldn't be good for the country if Hillary has to face stiff competition in the Iowa caucus and in the the primaries, it's looking more and more like that is not likely to happen.

It's time for all of you Hillary haters to think long and hard about the reality of a Guiliani, McCain, or Romney presidency.

E.g.'s:
How would do you feel about your wives, daughters not being able to get a legal abortion?

How do you feel about having nearly 50 milion of your brothers and sisters having no health insurance?

Etc., etc.

Kickbass; if you believe the polls then you are guilty of being a sheeple. And are falling for the Karl Rove play card that the Clinton camp is trying to make every one swallow."The say it enough and they will believe it game". Are you one of them? I'm not and know many more that aren't either.
IF by some crooked way she did get the nomination. I as well as many others would and will NOT vote for the corporate whore. If it means a repub. president so be it. If it means an Independent Pres. so then be it that it may.
Many of us vote our true convictions so we don't have to live with the guilt afterwards when things get really fucked up.

Hillary will be worse than Bush
She is just a smarter, cleverer version of George.

She wants to be a war president too
The attack on Iran will be left to her

That's correct... We can guess, but we don't KNOW... Kinda like "when does life start?" Is there "life after death" "Is Jesus really a fighter pilot?" etc.... It's all hypotheticals

Hillary probably doesn't even know what she'll do... If you're actually in the game, play happens at the speed of NOW, and you dance with the circumstances as they unfold....

AND.... There is INTENT... And MONEY wants this war to continue.... They know George Bungled it so Badly, Repugnics are dead this year and maybe for years to come --so they are going to invest in and promote someone who will basically advance that which is --to them-- an acceptable "left side" agenda

As to the original post, the electoral college-basis for presidential elections puts greatest emphasis on state-by-state voting. National polls are somewhat useful to candidates at this point, but the state primary caucuses or voting, is what is important now. Especially, the early voting. It seems premature to declare Mrs. Clinton the Democratic candidate (or even the presidential winner) when not one single vote has been cast. Last time around, Govenor Dean was the national polling favorite prior to being mugged in Iowa. Yes, it yielded Senator Kerry, but, so much for national polls a year out.

I don't know about you,but if Hillary had
chosen one shade darker for her outfit,I
swear it looked like she was speaking
to a group of people in China.
Must admit, that I cheered very loud when
Clinton took the initiative over Kosovo.
It was on the way to my birthday party and a
friend connected to the Peruvian Embassy
citized the action.
He hated Clinton,and quoted Pinochet.

Now it is more important than ever to expose Mrs. Clinton's religious agenda as outlined the current issue of Mother Jones. Her ideology is contrary to the progressive movement. Read it and weep.

Naschkatze--dyou got that right.

When MSM polls tell you someone is the winner--the one you should vote for, too--RUN THE OTHER WAY.

Clinton does not have our best interests at heart. Clinton is a corporatist and a hawk. She cannot win because too many people--even Democrats--do not like her.

I for one believe that polls do NOT equal votes.

I'm voting for Edwards.But then I haven't been polled.

Poll are very good this people are in a very competitive business selling polls to people that know a lot about polling. the only aggregate value they have to a list of number is the accuracy they have proven in previous forecast. Rich people buy polls they dont buy worthless things/ Gallup Zogby ramusen pew got it right almost all the time and they get better every year I do belive in polls as Obama eduards clinton gulliani all of the believe in polls that is why the buy them all the time.

Anyone who thinks any of these candidates have it tied up is diluted. Hillary & Obama moved to the right and lost me- OUT OF IRAQ (and Afghanistan (mistake #1) and NO WAR WITH IRAN)PERIOD. Return all rights lost in the last 6+ years, void all appointments (supreme Court), liberally convict and imprison all conspirators to this agenda of Imperalism and Dictatorship, fueled by Capitalism. Drastically reduce military presence throughout the world- expect for humanitarian aid.Begin to rebuild our reputation by working more closely with the UN. I want to know how we're going to the China debt off our kids backs, and I want all to have great health care- including long term care. I want immediate response to environmental issues. I wnt to see grain in peoples bowls and not in silos rotting- or still in the fields. I want necessary medications to resolve illness to be readily available and free as needed. I want the backbone of life as we know it- the labor force revered for what they do- regardless of educational attainment.Basic life requiremnets given- fresh clean water to drink, warm housing, the opportunity to make a real living.I want everyone to have the right to make an ass out of themselves in public.I want people to have such a lust for life the continue learnning everday of theri life and have no need for drugs to make life tolerable. I want every child to be born healthy, cared for, safe and loved.Perhaps I ask too much.
