AP via New York Times:

Intruders entered the Orsay Museum early Sunday and punched a hole in a renowned work by Impressionist painter Claude Monet, the French culture minister said. She described the damage as an attack on "our memory, our patrimony."

A surveillance camera caught a group entering the museum, which houses a major collection of Impressionist art on the Left Bank of the French capital along the Seine River.

It makes me sick.

There are violent and depraved people in this world.

This attack hurts all of us, and future generations as well.

The person responsible for this should have the skin of their face "ripped" in a similar fashion.

I agree this should be seen as a reflection in a small way of the vast
neo con rape (under Chaney's leadership, planning, protection and inside no bid contracts) of Iraq's museums and rich history; stolen, broken, smashed and coveted by some of the lowest forms of life on this earth in any age the private rape enabler better knowen as "the wealthy"

Stories like this show a world ready to sink into another "Dark Ages" A place where there is no respect for art, music , writing or anything that attemps to lifts the human spirt out of the sewer that it has allowed itself to be flushed down into. A world where chaos, fanatisism and violence rule. Where dignity and humanity give way to a blackness of the soul.

Wanna see French Impressionist paintings, visit the Barnes Foundation outside Philly. The walls are crammed with them.

And the guy who collected them for the education of the common man, A. Barnes, who was treated like a idiot and despised by the Phila. art establishment, who had to dress like the average Joe to even get in to see them.

How despicable. How depressing. Music, the visual arts, literature, achitecture and science are our only way of connecting with the infinite and with each other (as opposed to religion). To defile a true masterpiece like this is to debase our better nature. I hope the thugs are captured and prosecuted.

They should knock down that freaking D'Orsay and put up a godammed burger joint or something useful. Freaking French pansies--An American would have knocked a bigger hole in that thing. Supersize me

Unlike most museums in the US , when I was at the D'Orsay in 97 they had no barriers in front of the paintings so you could get very close to see the beauty.
It was the best thing in Paris. Way cooler then all the gloomy religious stuff in the Louvre.

Who knew the D'Orsay was so easy to get into? I might have been tempted to liberate, just one little painting.

But how to choose?

RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

The story is finished ,non competiveness in Culture is making Political life disintresting . The failure is a bearing of the vicious attitude that the constitutionalists continued pushing a threatened planet towards their selfish 'solutions . The day there was one only one politics left on the planet and the person was evident ,they still did'nt come to the feild. I sit in infested rooms of American?Europeans trying to dodge passes of Businessmen and Agents, while not a soal shows life farther than guilt. We call it planet when we judge it Environmentally and Politically . They have given away our world to reckless contractors. God is taking away thier culrtural abilities...They cannot even return to thaaaat/those highs again .

It's disgraceful really. It seems more and more the world has no respect for the arts and for that matter for other human beings and animals too. The Taliban blew to pieces those centuries-old wonderful Bhuddist statues, books are censored, the gorillas in the Congo are at risk now, polar bears will disappear because the likes of Bush and company refused to accept scientists' warnings about global warming years ago, the Iraq war is a calamity and now Bush has Iran in his target. This is the twenty first century. It wasn't supposed to be like this. How sad.

What is it about human nature that causes people to do things like this? A hatred of beauty is like the hatred of innocence that causes adults to desecrate children. It's a sickness that is especially prevalent in the Republican party.
11:06 PM on 10/07/2007
Oh please. Are you worth millions? Monet made good money and great paintings. If he was alive he might think it insane that his works go for millions. I say burn it so the rich can not own it.

Starvos: This was in a museum. Don't you get it? It was/is available for everyone to see, both the poor and the wealthy. The fact that Monet made good money on his work is fine. Ever hear of the term "starving artist"? Most artists go through life in poverty and only after their dead, if their very good, do their works bring the money in. You have something against a man who beat the system?
