I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Speaker Nancy Pelosi appeared on Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace and slammed President Bush for vetoing the expansion of the children's healthcare program known as SCHIP. Speaker Pelosi made a critical point about how much the Iraq war is diverting American resources from important domestic priorities, pointing out that the cost of insuring ten million children for one year under SCHIP equaled the cost of funding the Iraq war for forty days.

Watched Levitt this morning and he sounded like a broken record, again with the children moving off of private insurance. I don't think so, but that must be the crappy argument this WH will use to veto this bill. This from a President who didn't veto a damn bill for almost 5 years.

The thing that bothers me here about this issue is how it highlights a consistent problem those on the left have.

We all know that this bill represents a massive increase in spending AND a moving of middleclass people off of private insurance and on to government paid insurance. That's what this "debate" is about.

But the left will not say a word, not a word of why middle class people on private insurance should be moved to government insurance.

Instead they cynically say that their opponents are refusing health care to children....not so. That's not the issue. But the left would rather misdirect and LIE about this instead of honestly debating what kind of expansion of health care this country should or should not create.

The left is being childish, dishonest, bashing, smearing, and pandering. Anything but open, honest, willing to have a public debate.

Isn't that what they accused the Republicans off? Being dishonest and deceptive? How is it right for the left to behave this way. And why do they do it on virtually every major issue they support?

Allow me to try ... it's basically the same argument as the School Lunch program. It's in the public interest to assure that all children, whatever their family situation, get a good lunch. Yes, that means some middle income people pay taxes that go to giving their kids lunch instead of just buying their kids lunch directly, and yes it means some people pay more in taxes than it would cost them for lunch money, while others pay less.

The basic argument is that children have no say in the matter -- they can't help it if their parents are too poor or irresponsible to buy them health insurance, or if one of their parents has a medical condition which prevents the family from qualifying for private insurance.

I think there's a basic public health question whether or not it is a public good for all children to have health care, because it will help them to grow up to be healthy adults. To do that might mean that some middle income people pay for health care for their children through taxes, but that should also mean they should get a decrease in the amount they pay for private health insurance. Whether that is a net cost increase or decrease, nobody knows.

I agree with you that the debate so far has been sadly lacking in constructive discussion, but I think there has been as much silly name-calling on the right as the left. Personally, while I favor a government requirement that all children get health care, I'm not sure S-CHIP is the right way to do it.

I hope you find my comments helpful, whether you agree with them or not. That's what debates are about.

Strange how many people BELIEVE that income taxes go toward ANYTHING that HELPS THE PEOPLE.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 03:03 AM on 10/08/2007

The government is supposed to TAKE CARE OF THE PEOPLE!

GET IT????
That's SUPPOSED to be WHY we have a government.
What we have instead now is.....

9/11/01 WAS AN INSIDE JOB!

Nancy, it is within your power to change this. All you have to do is refuse to put a war funding bill up for a vote.

No bill=no funding

No funding=all kinds of money for things that people actually want and need

That's a "slam"?? I've got an idea, cut 40 days worth of funding from the Iraq budget and tack S-CHIP onto the military appropriations bill, problem solved.

Impeachment is not on the table, it is in the constitution.

It is Pelosi's obligation to start impeachment proceedings if President Bush has committed high crimes and misdemeanors.

I would consider lieing America into war a high crime and misdemeanor.

Pelosi is forgoing impeachment proceedings for democratic political gain in 2008.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 10:15 PM on 10/07/2007

That's STUPID!
IMPEACHMENT would flush ALL KINDS of HIGH CRIMES (TREASON),MASS MURDERS (9/11/01 FOR EXAMPLE), CORRUPTION, VOTER FRAUD, etc. INTO THE PUBLICS' AWARENESS.
IMPEACHMENT is the BEST WAY to GUARENTEE the repukes would have to be SHUT DOWN as a "party".

Surprising the number of smokers who want to deny children health insurance rather than quit their filthy fucking habit?

Some Americans are weak willed, self-centered punk cowards.

Smoking is it's own reward. Death by heart attack or lung cancer.

Nancy ;“And I pray especially hard that he would sign the children’s health bill because it’s so important for America’s children.”

Problem solved, all it takes is prayer.

Continued ; “We just pray that God’s will will be done. We pray for the children, we pray for poor people, we pray for people who need help,” she said. “And we always, always, always pray for our men and women in uniform who make our freedom to pray possible.”

Im sure Pelosi and the rest of the Lame ass democrats were on the phone right after this interview, apologizing to Bush and telling him this is all a PR stunt. Each and everyone of us who were stupid enough to vote for the lying ass democrats with the hopes they would at least slow the evils of the republicans , know now just how full of shit the democrats are. They kiss Bush's ass every chance they get. Be it the Patriot Act or Funding for his Iraqi invasion, Democrats are there to kiss his ass every step of the way. I could kick my own ass for voting for the assholes too. Now I get the idea of how it feels to be raped by someone you trusted. And its not a nice feeling.

But imagine all the crap the Republicans would still be getting away with had they not been over run...

While they're not as effective as we hoped they'd be, they're still better than what came before them...

it appears you have fallen out of love with the two party system.

americans are in love with their two party capitalist system.

guess who told them it is the best in the world.

follow the money for an answer.

while the german socialist works 35 to 38 hr week and five weeks vacation and has universal health care we spend our money on imperialism to benefit the few.

if there is a more naive group of people in the world than middle class america I have not found them.

It's funny watching this idiot try and pander to people of fiath by acting like she prays. C' mon guys, between her and clinton, the acting is really bad. Why don't you vote for someone who will come right out and say that you think religious people are idiots and stupid, bible thumpers...maybe they would be more believeable.

And you know for a fact Pelosi is not religious?

You know, until Bush, Presidents didn't need to advertise their faith in order to get people to vote for them. They didn't wear it on their sleeves. Faith isn't a commercial.

Lke, when Bush calls himself a "pro lifer." I'd hate to see what the religious right who supports him considers a murderer to be...

It's bizarre to listen to all these Republican politicians whining that families making $80,000 will get government funded healthcare for their kids and they could "cancel their private insurance and rely on government funded healthcare." OMG!

Wouldn't that be terrible, considering that every fatass politician debating this bill--including W--is worth millions and get government funded healthcare from the taxpayers of this country. So far, I haven't heard one of them get up in public and say they are renouncing their government health benefits to help out the private insurance companies.

That's their only concern. They think people making $80,000 should have to buy private insurance to increase to profits of the insurance companies. Any American who hasn't figured that out yet is a blithering idiot.

Does anyone know what health coverage Bush has? Is it a good health plan? Who pays for it? Aren't taxpayers?

He makes well over the povert line, so according to his own logic for denying certain children whose parents he says makes enough to pay for their own, he too should not get anything for free...

Thank you. Could not agree more.

The first question at these "Dem debates" (sic) should be,

"So, Senators Obama, Clinton & Edwards, if & when national healthcare legislation is enacted, are you & your families going to participate in the same healthcare system that you deem appropriate for all other Americans?"

Nancy, Nancy, Nancy you silly...

Which came first...

Funding the occupation of a nation that posed no threat to the U.S.A....

Or...

Funding health care for children?

Who do you think you're fooling, Nancy?

America sees your priorities.

1) Fund an illegal occupation using the troops as your poster boys... in harms way... armored up... better Humm-V's... funnel money to them corporations to keep them profitable.

2) Use the occupation that you fund as a rallying point to divide the Nation over the greed you passed(see step 1.) versus the immoral position you stick this Nation into. "40 days in Iraq would cover the Nation's children..."

BULL SHIT NANCY...
YOU HELPED PUT US INTO IRAQ!
