I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Speaker Nancy Pelosi appeared on Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace and slammed President Bush for vetoing the expansion of the children's healthcare program known as SCHIP. Speaker Pelosi made a critical point about how much the Iraq war is diverting American resources from important domestic priorities, pointing out that the cost of insuring ten million children for one year under SCHIP equaled the cost of funding the Iraq war for forty days.

Reading this first page of comments I feel like I have stumbled into a snake pit. Are all of you trolls? Every single one of you are repeating the right-wing talking points. What, about having such a slim majority that we need to have bi-partisan cooperation to get anything through the house do you all not understand? You keep chanting the same stupid bullshit - "impeach" " - "out of Iraq NOW". It makes you seem very naive. If the votes are not there then the votes are not there- how is that so difficult to understand? And for those of you who think that Cuindy Sheehan would be a better Congresswoman or speaker than Nancy Pelosi - get REAL!! Cindy is great and she has her strenghts but if you do not understand how to work with the snakes, trolls, patriots and true well meaning politicians in Washington then you can never make it. Where are the moderates? Where are those of you who understand the way things work? Every time Speaker Pelosi's name is mentioned you trolls just salavate and tear her to shreds when it is the Repugs who have f*cked things up. Do any of you trolls know that the Repugs have held up 84 seperate pieces of legislation just so they can say that the Democrats aren't doing anything? I expect that tactic to work with the idiots who get their information from Faux News but I am surprised at how many of you have been sucked into the talking points.

It's not just trolls tearing into Pelosi.
It's also mis-informed Dems/libs that think a simple majority in Congress can do anything they want, to anyone they want.

It happens every time Pelosi's name is in a HuffPo headline.

I know - it is rediculous. It makes people look so ignorant I am sorry to say.

Is this why the measurement of successful legislation boils down to what the Republicans will or won't block?

The Republicans, the now minority party, retains control of the Congress because Pelosi and Reid aren't stong enough to punch through the minorities control of the majority.

All of you:

It makes sense to bring some things to a vote and others not - we, you and I know that. But, we (Dems and others) need to bring some things to a vote to get the republicans on record as uncooperative and are a "party before country" selfish bunch. A vote on certain things (I can't go listing them all here, but you know what I mean) would certainly paint a picture for the American people. GET THEM ON RECORD. Non-binding votes won't do it. Only real votes will make them think.

They're giggling knowing (we're) not doing the right thing. We're working for them being scared. BUT, BUT the only other thing I see why they won't offer real votes is ugh, black----!!!!!!!!!!!!

Expecting the congress to respond to the will of 70 percent of the people should not be naive.

That is what populism is all about.
Electing official that will let the people rule.
Pelosi has been about as responsive as Boss Tweed.

"In the present system the miner, a wage slave, gets down into a pit 300 or 400 feet deep. He works hard and produces a ton of coal. But he does not own an ounce of it.

That coal belongs to some mine-owning plutocrat who may be in New York or sailing the high seas in his private yacht; or he may be hobnobbing with royalty in the capitals of Europe, and that is where most of them were before the war was declared.

The industrial captain, so- called, who lives in Paris, London, Vienna or some other center of gaiety does not have to work to revel in luxury. He owns the mines and he might as well own the miners." Eugene Debs

SS/ChiGuy.
Thank you for a great post. The trolls that are complaining don't have a clue about how things are done in the Congress, you right on about the Republican holding up so many pieces on legislation over the last nine month.

I had such high hopes from the democratic congress. What a cruel joke it has been so far. Nancy Pelosi has simply been one big disaster. I will simply not vote anymore.

That's a great way to help the Republicans.

It takes far longer than nine months to undo six years of Republican control.

You sound like a petulant ten-year-old.

What are you talking about? This is an evenly split congress - you know 50%-50%? On almost all the votes that count the dems are unanimous - it is the Repug idiots who have obstructed and stood in the way of what the American people want. Have you been paying attention at all? "Cruel joke" what a rediculous thing so say, do you know how many investigations and hearings this democratic congress has had? Do you know how many the Repug congress has had? Take a friggen guess because if you do not know then you are not paying attention - the Repugs did not investigate or question a SINGLE thing the Bu$h adminstration did, the Dems at least have been doing their jobs. Go ahead and not vote but if you really want change then we need a larger, veto proof majority, I know that so many of you do not want to hear this because you just love eating your own, but that is the facts of life.

"Important domestic priorities?"

Yeah, like her earmark to improve San Francisco's waterfront at federal taxpayers' expense for the benefit of her husband's properties.

Hey Nancy, remember you said this almost a year ago ? What gives ?
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/rep-nancy-pelosi/bringing-the-war-to-an-en_b_34393.html

Why do you say one thing and do another ?
Why does your house keep giving money to Bush's war ?

I mean, gee , thanks for the lips service and all, but when are you tighten up those purse strings ?

If Pelosi convinced her fellow party members in Congress to withhold funding for the war, it would be a PR disaster for Democrats and pretty much guarantee a Republican winning the White House next year.
(Yes,I KNOW that there are lives in the balance, and so do they.)

She must find a necessarily acceptable medium.
Right now, that includes passing legislation which makes Bush look bad when he vetoes like the SCHIP law.
Every little victory is another chunk out of the Republican foundation.

Taxpayers are now on the hook for a record $59.1 trillion in liabilities, a 2.3% increase from 2006. That amount is equal to $516,348 for every U.S. household. By comparison, U.S. households owe an average of $112,043 for mortgages, car loans, credit cards and all other debt combined.

Unfunded promises made for Medicare, Social Security and federal retirement programs account for 85% of taxpayer liabilities. State and local government retirement plans account for much of the rest.

Fuck family values. Take care of your own family. It's not societies problem.

What could you do with a half million dollars? Would you rather invest that money yourself or would you rather someone else take it? Then you kids can work to pay for you.

Fuck that.

Speaker Pelosi, Steny Hoyer, Rahm Emanuel and the other party leaders failed to deliver the full Democratic vote on the legislation in the first place.

Perhaps had they shown more resolve, they'd be in a better position to argue their point now.
As is, the Dems who voted against this legislation, and the party leaders who allowed them to do it, have made it easier for the GOP.

But let's face it, the current congressional party leadership FAILED...

but not only did they fail on yet another vital piece of legislation...

they failed on perhaps the ONE piece of bipartisan legislation which they SHOULD have been able to passed with a super majority vote in the first place...

Pelosi has not shown leadership in a way that really matters ... we are still neck deep in crap and it's getting deeper.

She is basically letting Bush continue with his criminal corporate war profit agenda.

Remember, Pelosi is the richest women in the House.

She is part of the elite class.

Pelosi has to rehearse her talking points prior to appearing on the "View" again in order to trump her adversaries and to anticipate certain questions like the ones she was asked about raising money for children's health care by taxing cigarettes because the question asked by Wallace on the Faux News interview could have been easily anticipated and deflected. She is not a novice to being interviewed or to defending her position although it seems so. Her thoughts as reflected in her speech appear to be convoluted and erratic. Other than that, she should be home baking cookies for her grandchildren, and let Cindy take up the cause of creating misery for the dolt and his enablers.
