I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Speaker Nancy Pelosi appeared on Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace and slammed President Bush for vetoing the expansion of the children's healthcare program known as SCHIP. Speaker Pelosi made a critical point about how much the Iraq war is diverting American resources from important domestic priorities, pointing out that the cost of insuring ten million children for one year under SCHIP equaled the cost of funding the Iraq war for forty days.

Pretty Goddamned disingenuous to complain about outrageous levels of funding for the Iraqi war when the HOUSE continues to fund it.

How long do they think that the public is going to fall for these little games of semantics?

THAT WAS MY THOUGHT...

How can Pelosi compare SCHIP and Iraq when she and her Democratic majority are continuing to FUND the freaking U.S. occupation of Iraq? (I say this as a lifelong -- and totally disguested -- Democrat.)

"Walking on water wasn't built in a day."
--Jack Kerouac.

The fact of the matter is that Nancy is not leading. Unfortunately she--and most of the Democratic Congress--is caught up in the trap of "political codependency."

True leadership is taking a stand and if others join in and an authentic coalition develops, so much the better. It's not like crossing the street where you watch the light, look both ways and try to avoid getting busted for jaywalking.

I'm a dem, and am very disillusioned about Pelosi, and Reid, for that matter. They have shown precious little leadership. They continue to fund this immoral war, while decrying the cost??? STOP FUCKING PAYING FOR IT!!!!!!!!!!!! You have that power. Force a vote, publically for the war. Up or down, no more bullshit lingustics, and excuses. The people demand action, now, not two weeks before the next congressional elections.

Now is it time to put impeachment back on the table, Nancy?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 02:35 PM on 10/07/2007

This interview was notable for what was NOT asked and obviously Chris Wallace is to blame.

What shoulda coulda been ...

Pelosi: ... and it's paid for.
Wallace: How?
Pelosi: Tax increase on cigarettes.
Wallace: So you WANT people to continue to smoke?
Pelosi: NO no no. We want them to stop smoking.
Wallace: But aren't you depending on them to continue to smoke to pay for the increase?
Pelosi: Well, I suppose that's true but TimBobGeorge have never asked me that before. I guess if we can't get the revenue that way we'll just raise, uh, have to find the revenue somewhere else. But not on additional taxes on cosmetic surgery or botox, you can count on that.

This is specious reasoning. Smoking extracts a great cost from society; higher Medicade and Medicare costs, lost worker productivity, wages flow into Big Tobacco's coffers, not to mention the death toll.

Yeah. But that's how Pelosi intends to pay for this. Or haven't you heard.

These numbers came out here when the SCHIP veto occurred some time ago.

Of ourse we all know why the liberals put this bill forward right?...political reasons!

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 02:21 PM on 10/07/2007

Why is it anything the rethugs do is for the good of the country and anything the dems do is for political reasons?

Get real, this lie has been used forever and no longer holds any water. It's what happens when you use it for everything you don't agree with.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 02:25 PM on 10/07/2007

There are valid political moves, if they are in the interest of the country and the people. This bill is not only the moral thing to do, but it is common sense as well.
I mean, the republicans should be all for this bill. They'll need to get more healthy IED fodder from somewhere!

Pelosi needs to start by insisting IMPEACHMENT IS BACK ON THE TABLE. Things should get simpler and easier after that.

Not that I would ever defend the criminals in the White House, but do any of you remember Watergate or the madness that was President Clinton's impeachment? Impeachment is never simple nor easy, nor should it be.

As a nation, I think we are quite capable of handling the "trauma" of an impeachment. The only problem with Watergate is that is didn't go far enough...

and Gerald Ford's pardon, simply lowered the bar for expectations of presidential behavior...what we now see in the Bush misadministration is a legacy of THAT rather, incomplete impeachment.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 02:32 PM on 10/07/2007

I agree it shouldn't be simple nor easy, but there is a time for everything, and if our impeachment statutes weren't written for just this kind of president, who in hell where they written for????? This not merely a matter of political manuvering, but it is a matter of justice. That too, seems up for grabs!

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 03:03 PM on 10/07/2007

Amen! She should absolutely say this and mean it. This would send a loud and clear message to everyone that Bush no longer gets a free pass from congress. Bush won't really care because he believes he is absolutely right in what he is doing. No matter what anyone says...

But this would energize our base to regain some of the momentum lost after the last elections. It would also force some of the vulnerable Repukes to defend their president. I hope they do, as this will get them quickly defeated!

They showed a clip of Bush in front of a crowd with a microphone twirling around on the stage while gesturing with his free hand saying:

"I believe in helping poor people."

What exactly does Bush's personal belief amount to in real life?? What does it mean to a person taken sick?

I felt as if I had been transported back in time to the Dickensian 19th century. (Please Sir, may I have some health care, I am sick)

It all seems so old. They should stick the Bush family in the Museum of Natural History next to extinct species. I am embarassed to be living in Bush Republican America. Man, do we ever need to move on from these guys.

SHE didn't TAKE impeachment off the table.
She knew that the party-before-country Republicans would never provide enough votes for impeachment proceedings to even begin.

Politics is counting votes.

Impeachment is what we owe the world.

Impeachment is the process. Conviction is separating politics from the process. It is not certain what men and women will do when the light is shined upon their individual decision. But it is wrong to fear failure and therefor fail to act. It is also wrong to take advantage of the indifference of the public.

in fact Nancy had no reason to openly declare that impeaching Bush was not going to happen..

even if it were there was no reason for her to open her mouth and utter the words..

nancy is a coward and she and democrats have proven they are all chickenshit cowards spineless whores who need to be thrown out..

face the facts.. even without the votes democrats control the agenda.. democrats control the bills that get to the floor..

so every Bush success proves the democrats have no spine.. that democrats are gutless chickenshit whores..

nancy and reid are the biggest whiner cowards in the bunch..

Pelosi is just one of those people that thinks that politics is something to play with. Quite happy to play on 'The View' It's all about status and her position in things political.

Winston Churchill was 'right wing' but he saw a Fascist dictator when he saw one and he saw it almost before anyone else. He knew the difference between right and wrong.

Democrats have a majority but you wouldn't think so the way they behave. They are too busy with their triangulating calculators. Politics is 'shades of grey' they say but not this time. This Government is so wrong ( like Hitler was so wrong.) Dems are in the business of appeasement (like Neville Chamberlin in 1938/9 )and they will pay dearly for it.

Right and wrong are not on their triangulating calculators

No, Jake106, take your troll garbage somewhere else. Your attitude is why this country is in the shape it is in now.

As to National Defense, just exactly how is shrub enhancing national defense? Specific, documented examples please. No shadow arguments that "if we don't fight them there we will have to fight them here!" That is a completely empty argument.

Your turn, troll. Get on with it. Or, should I write, "Bring it on."

Defense -- the protection of something, especially from attack by an enemy

Offense -- an attack or assault, usually in the military or in sports

It is about time that someone in this administration learned the difference.

I think this impeachment thingy is turning into a 21st century replacement for lynchmobs. Vote Pelosi out. Impeach bush and cheney!
Both moves would be better for America, and hence, good for the rest of the world. Impeaching bush and cheney would be the very best thing America can do to prove to the world, that our democracy works. That sometimes, a fool gets in the white house, but it doesn't mean we have to let him stay there.

Do not compromise with the "Decider." He made the decision, albeit wrong, and the Republicans should learn to live with it or bolt from his sick hold on their minds and their votes. Let them threaten to filibuster. Remember their "Nuclear Option" and force them to confront the issue. Their filibustering would simply add to the disgust of their constituency and enable a larger democratic majority in 2008. Stick to your guns. This is the time for the Democrats to be strong, show a backbone, and make their constituency proud. Good legislation will follow whether it is this year or later.
