ABC News Political Radar:

ABC News' Rick Klein Reports: With debate raging in Washington over children's health insurance, congressional Democrats found a new way to make their case for an expansion last weekend: Rather than have a senator or a congressman respond to President Bush's weekly radio address, they decided to have a child who was helped by the program speak directly to the public.

But the 12-year-old boy whom Democrats chose as their poster child is now at the center of a firestorm in Washington and beyond. Conservative bloggers who uncovered some details of the family's finances are blasting the family, calling the fact that they rely on federal insurance an example of how the State Children's Health Insurance Program has expanded beyond its original intent.

Stop using this meaningless bull word "conservative", when what is obviously meant is "Republican".

Whoever it is who's attacking this kid, they're doing it as "Republican operatives", not as "conservatives".

Stop saying the vague undefined and ultimately meaningless word "conservative", when the specific and accurate word "Republican" is what is meant.

The particular piece of legislation that is the issue here, is just that: Legislation.

And nobody in Congress is a member of the "conservative party"; there is no such thing in Congress that I know of.

There are Republicans (R) and Democrats (D) in Congress; and this issue has those (R)'s and (D)'s opposing one another over this legislation.

"Republican Operatives on the Internet Attack 12-Year-Old" is how the story should be headlined.

"Why won't you let us lie?" How dare you don't let us lie!"

In a Baltimore Sun article the family claims to be raising their four children on combined income of about $45,000 a year. “Bonnie Frost works for a medical publishing firm; her husband, Halsey, is a woodworker. They are raising their four children on combined income of about $45,000 a year. Neither gets health insurance through work.”

What the article does not mention is that Halsey Frost has owned his own company “Frostworks”, since this marriage announcement in the NY Times in 1992 so he chooses to not give himself insurance. He also employed his wife as “bookkeeper and operations management” prior to her recent 2007 hire at the “medical publishing firm”. As her employer, he apparently denied her health insurance as well.

His company, Frostworks, is located at 3701 E BALTIMORE ST. A building that was purchased for $160,000 in 1999…

…One has to wonder that if time and money can be found to remodel a home, send kids to exclusive private schools, purchase commercial property and run your own business… maybe money can be found for other things…maybe Dad should drop his woodworking hobby and get a real job that offers health insurance rather than making people like me (also with 4 kids in a 600 sf smaller house and tuition $16,000 less per kid and no commercial property ownership) pay for it in my taxes.

Lap up the lies libs.

Raising 4 kids on combined salary of 45,000. Sounds exactly like what the program was designed for. What would you prefer, the kids die rather then receiving subsidized insurance? You make me sick. Oh and that private school they attend, they do on scholarship. They pay 500 a year, not 20 grand. Get your facts straight and while you're at it Get some compassion ASS.

Yeah, that family paid taxes too so they deserve health care.

The middle class pays the most taxes in your country and yet you deny them health care? They pay taxes too, remember?

Learn some math.

"Halsey Frost has owned his own company Frostworks ... maybe Dad should drop his woodworking hobby and get a real job that offers health insurance"

Since when was the Republican vision of the American Dream altered to discourage entrepreneurship? What you're saying is that starting a business puts your family's health at risk. We should all fall in line and work for big corporations instead of pursuing our ambitions and innovations. Only then can we pay thousands per year for the privilege of paying thousands more in deductibles and copays.

Yes, you would be paying into the program, but wealthier taxpayers would be paying their share as well. Your children's families may benefit from this program in the future. I hope you realize how wrong it is to oppose a social program just because you don't stand to benefit personally. Frankly, based on your comment, it would seem that this program is aimed at helping families like your own. Even if your children are now too old, don't you want to help improve the situation so that similar families won't have to struggle like your's did?

Our democratic republic was founded on the idea of granting the people the power to form a more perfect union. A nation of people who are reluctant to enrich our economy out of fear for their family's health is embarrassingly imperfect given our exorbitant wealth. Small business owners have enough uphill battles to fight these days. Aren't Republicans supposed to be looking out for business owners, farmers, and other self-employed people? Don't you realize that universal health care would eliminate a huge cost of doing business in America?

Once again... the kids go to that private school on scholarship. They pay $500 per year, per child.

I know your brain is on overload because a government run program is working perfectly, but that's just some truth you'll have to deal with.

Once again...you lose...

Socialism for the rich and capitalism for the poor, I say. Although I figured that if the rich like corporate welfare and their socialism so much that I'd try it myself and guess what I know why they like socialism, it's better. In the meantime, thank you for paying the taxes that enable I and the wealthy to enjoy socialism, sucker.

Republicans are the party of GREED. More money, more money.
More money is wasted in a day in Iraq on killing innocent people, and you assholes want to attack a lower-middle class family who have children on scholarship to private schools. Maybe the kids are smart. Maybe the family invested in a small buisness to better themselves. Maybe this shows how the plan works for people who are making good decisions and building a life.
Maybe this is what the repugs always preach about when they're begging for your vote. Isn't this family working hard to have a better life? How about it repugs? Isn't this the kind of family you always promote?

You repugs make me fucking sick.

Darn right. I think we should just give all our wages, profits, and investment earnings to the government, and the governent gives us back an allowance based on how much it thinks we deserve to have.

Sorry, but I've seen a lot of tax returns for self-employed people and subchapter S corporation people and they mostly under-report their income substantially. The rest of us take up the slack on paying income taxes--you can't lie when you're getting a W2 from somebody else.

Not saying that's what's going on with that family, but when I read the father has his own business, I certainly have to wonder how accurate the income tax return is.

These bastards stop at nothing, but as Albert Einstein said so long ago 'Fear and stupidity has always been the basis of most human actions.'

What a fellow...that Einstein.

"This is a perverse distraction from the issue at hand," said Jim Manley, a spokesman for Reid, D-Nev. "Instead of debating the merits of providing health care to children, some in GOP leadership and their right-wing friends would rather attack a 12-year-old boy and his sister who were in a horrific car accident."

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The GOPedophiles keep calling the kid's house.

They desperately want a date.

I can afford my son's health care, but we sort of think we have a right to a free forty foot sailboat. You could call it the "BOAT not SCHIP" program.

The lesson the fascist right wants to send to America:
Stand up to them and they'll take you down, one way or another. If not by public slander or digging into your personal life, then maybe by some Gonzales appointee indicting you on false charges, or the company you work for losing its government contract. What did they do to those wounded veterans living in deplorable hospital ocnditions? begansubjecting them to 6am barracks inspections every morning afterwards, if memory serves. The right wing is just plain evil.

Such a person does not exist. If the publicans can't smear someone with truth, they have zero qualms to use half-truths, distortions, incomplete stories, and outright lies.

Worst part of this attack is it is against a 12 year old who no matter what could not possibly be at fault since he does not make the decisions in his family, and the state is the one who determined eligibilty anyway and not the democrats and secondly they have all the facts wrong, but then when has that ever stopped the right.

Another example that the right is so shallow they can only talk about people and not policy. No matter who it turns out to be from Paul O'neil to Soros to Joe Wilson to Richard Clarke to Jack Murtha to John Kerry to a 12 year old boy, and legions more. All are suspect and lack character if they dare oppose the right or the truth of what they say or do.
Of course when it is Rush or Billo or Bushs handpicked spokesman general then all is smear.

This game is waaaaaay played out and I think even unobservant people are on to them. This is below low. To harass people like this is beyond the pale and as they beat their chests US citizens are turning them off.

Good point, the General can't stand up for himself against those nasty Democrats and we'll conduct a "high tech public lynching[Clarence Thomas quote]" and mug a 12 year old. We Republicans are tough we kill ducks that can't fly, from our car and mug 12 year old 'childrens' a Bushism.

What is wrong with those people, picking on a 12-year old. Oh yeah, anybody remember a certain portly, drug addicted talk show host calling Chelsea Clinton (then age 16, mind you) the "white house dog".
