ABC News Political Radar:

ABC News' Rick Klein Reports: With debate raging in Washington over children's health insurance, congressional Democrats found a new way to make their case for an expansion last weekend: Rather than have a senator or a congressman respond to President Bush's weekly radio address, they decided to have a child who was helped by the program speak directly to the public.

But the 12-year-old boy whom Democrats chose as their poster child is now at the center of a firestorm in Washington and beyond. Conservative bloggers who uncovered some details of the family's finances are blasting the family, calling the fact that they rely on federal insurance an example of how the State Children's Health Insurance Program has expanded beyond its original intent.

If the government did not provide roads, private enterprises would. In fact, that is the latest fad for building new roads (in addition to a widely used method when roads were not built by the government). Private/public partnerships to build toll roads.
I like to think of it as the latest in 'stealth' taxes.

Yeah,And that Fire Department your running to protect your home! When do you find time to police your property? With Republicans it's always the fucking myth that you just have to make more money to solve your problems! Here's a revelation...Not everyone can launch rockets for NASA! And mister Christiany Republican maybe you don't think God was being sarcastic (remember God is the Author of the Bible,He put all the words in it,into the minds of the writers!) when he had Cain ask "Am I My Brothers Keeper?" The Answer is YES!

"Soft hearted old compassionate conservative that I am, I suggested that: 1-if federal funds were required the could die for all I care. Let the parents get second jobs, let their state foot the bill or let them seek help from private charities. And 2-I would hire a team of PIs and find out exactly how much their parents made and where they spent every nickel. Then I'd do everything possible to destroy their lives with that info...
...Hang 'em. Publically. Let 'em twist in the wind and be eaten by ravens. Then maybe the bunch of socialist patsies will think twice."

Illegal immigration is a human rights and economic issue.

Not all illegal immigrants are brown skinned people who only speak Spanish. These people also come from Asia, Europe and Africa. So why does the corporate media continue to have selective amnesia when talking about this?

Human Nature 101: When people are desperate, they will do and say anything the have to to survive. It doesn't matter if you're in a village in Mexico or a mansion in Beverly Hills.

If the economy is so great, then why is a there a growing number of Americans who are emigrating? They go for many reasons: work, marriage, discrimination and more. Of course the corporate media refuses to acknowledge that reality. Because they kiss neocon ass and are afraid to actually work for a living.

The vast majority of illegal immigrants are NOT criminals. They are people who want a better life. If an American was desperate and wanted a better life say in Canada, how many people wouldn't risk everything to go? Would you go or would you stay in a miserable situation with no hope? It's hypocritical and insulting to other people who risk eveything to come here, work and actually contribute. If they don't, that's different. But the ulgy truth is the white power structure wants these people here to maintain a permenant sub class. They certainly wouldn't stoop so low as to pick tomatoes, chop cotton or clean toilets for minimum wage or less.

Once again, it comes down to money and power.

The right wing common folk (1/3 of the population) accepts the line about "socialized medicine," tax increases, medical care "cheaters," and all the rest of the anti- health care scare tactics without questioning it. The scare tactics are invented by insurance companies and drug manufacturers and mouthed by their far right media enablers. No advocate of affordable, accessable, or government paid health care wants or is suggesting SOCIALIZED MEDCINE!! "Socialized medicine" is government run health care where all doctors and nurses work directly for the government and hospitals and facilities are run directly by the government. What is proposed in all of these programs allows insurance companies to operate as a middleman and collect their profits from it. But, insurers don't like it because they have to insure everyone and can't just insure those that statistically won't get sick or have an accident. They still would make their MONEY, but there would be more uncertainty! Drug manufactures don't like it because they would have to compete more on drug pricing. Right wing mouthpieces don't like it because they are either paid spokesmen for insurance companies or they believe at their huge income levels, their taxes would go up. The right wing masses don't want it because they believe simple minded right wing sound bites and won't investigate details of the programs.

Nonsense, this country already has socialized medicine - it's called Medicare. The tax increase for that is no scare tactic. It's on each of our pay stubs, and incidents of Medicare fraud are legion.

Yes, Medicare fraud is rampant. Usually by unbelievably low reimbursement rates paid to physicians--many of whom reject medicare patients because they can't afford to see them. RESPONSE: Greedy doctors should treat people for free. RESPONSE: There are too many people to treat for free. RESPONSE: Trial lawyers sue doctors making their costs too high that's why there are so many uninsured. RESPONSE: Malpractice insurance industry surveys show this product most profitable and that there is no crisis. RESPONSE: You're a commie socialist

Why are you not crying about your retired senators who retire a 100 percent pay and have medical coverage that is 100 percent free to them. I know that ain't the point. Fact is we pay for all that stuff but you whine about socialized medicine really what is your issue surely it can't be allwoing peopel to have sub standard care now is it. Oh I think I know it is, you do not want to pay for anything you should keep ALL your money huh. Why not ask Ole GW why he is spending 10 billion a month in Iraq, why not ask him why he is rebuilding a country he blew to hell, that is your money too. So the bottom line for me is: They can't rely on truth to make their case for their cause. They have to lie. Be it about me, be it about their own voters (such as the Frosts) be it about President Bush, they must lie -- and anybody who stands in the way of their succeeding with that lie becomes an enemy, becomes a target. That's where I and my buddies in talk radio come in. We are a thorn in their side because we represent the truth they are trying to hide, the truth that they are lying about, and they have to do something about it -- and they have to do that by lying. The truth will not help 'em. The truth is inconvenient to today's Democrat Party and today's left. "Fiction" is their byword. Make it up. Make sure people cry about it. Have a lot of emotion attached to the fiction, and have no guilt about it. "Once you get past the lying, the rest is easy," is their philosophy. The kid, Graeme Frost, in one of his radio addresses, asked the question: "Why doesn't President Bush want children to have health care?" They send the kid out to lie. They filled this kid's head with lies just as they have some of these soldiers about me. Put lies in the kid's head or put it on the script that he's reading. He goes out and reads it. He's 12-years-old! They will use anybody! They'll corrupt anybody, to get where they're headed. That's who they are, folks. Thank you Rush

Here are the facts that the right-wing distorted in order to attack young Graeme:

1) Graeme has a scholarship to a private school. The school costs $15K a year, but the family only pays $500 a year.

2) His sister Gemma attends another private school to help her with the brain injuries that occurred due to her accident. The school costs $23,000 a year, but the state pays the entire cost.

3) They bought their “lavish house” sixteen years ago for $55,000 at a time when the neighborhood was less than safe.

4) Last year, the Frost’s made $45,000 combined. Over the past few years they have made no more than $50,000 combined.

5) The state of Maryland has found them eligible to participate in the CHIP program.

His response to Bush was actually recorded earlier in the week and Matthew Hay Brown, a reporter from The Baltimore Sun, interviewed the young man after he did his recording. Frost said his parents work hard to provide for him and his sister, but one thing they can't afford is private health insurance, so they have to depend upon the government program, Brown reported for The Sun. Perfect illustration of why the SCHIP program should be expanded, right? Actually, no, because the Sun only reported the Democratic version of the story and we can't depend upon a mainstream media outlet like the Sun to get the rest of the story." Well, the rest of the story is: "It turns out the Frost family sends its kids to one of Baltimore's expensive private schools, owns a house in a neighborhood of homes valued in the $400,000-500,000 range and bought commercial property in 1999 for $160,000." What's the upshot of all this? This is nothing new. The Democrats lie! They have to in order to make their case. What was seductive to them was that this young man and his sister were severely injured in an auto accident, and they didn't have private insurance. "That's all we needed. That's all. Just smear the president. That's all we needed. We don't need any other details, because we know that our buddies in the mainstream media are not going to uncover the details, and, if they do uncover 'em, they're not going to report 'em -- and when they do get uncovered a couple weeks later, a day later, the story is already ours. We already own it."

Nope....the program has existed for a decade already. The Democrats proposed an EXPANSION, which is what Bush vetoed, to the program, which already provides everything the Democrats are claiming doesn't exist.

It's funny how the conservatives are whipping themselves into a frenzy over a small-business owner who sends his kids to private school - both things that they would normally claim to support.

Obviously Frost's crime here was questioning Dear Leader.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 09:52 PM on 10/08/2007

The frenzy is the Democrats throwing a child on national radio under false pretenses to try to sell legislation that isn't what they claim while the family is obviously more than capable of providing for their own health insurance.
