Former US secretary of state Madeleine Albright does not rule out a war against Iran in the nuclear dispute between Tehran and the international community.

'This last resort can never be given up completely,' the Czech-born Albright who also served as US ambassador to the United Nations, told Prague-based CT1 television.

'First negotiation has to take place, although Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says terrible things,' she insisted.

The 70-year-old described the situation in Iraq as 'worse than Vietnam at the time'. Albright also criticized the situation as 'the worst legacy' of outgoing US President George W. Bush.

It's nice to know someone has attempted to prioritize the actions of this administration. I, myself, am in a dither wondering how to list them.

As for what might be a true and honest element, I can't find a favorable thing to say. Can you?

She must be senile. Unless the USA is directly attacked we have no business attacking another country.
The US government is insane. If we want to totally screw things up for our kids we will attack another country . only if we are directly attacked can we defend ourselves violently.
besides where the heck will you get the troops?
Bush ,cheney, Rummy etc...have broken the US military and dangerously weakened the US militaries ability to do the job of defending us from REAL threats.
Allbright is dim and a sell out like Hillary.

Madeleine Albright must be ruled out. Out with the Perle's, and Kissinger's, where they may be arrested as war criminals.

The Clinton team wants war with Iran so bad its eating at them. I also saw Begala on TV and he was hinting it. Even former Prez Bill couldn't deny it. And he's usually as slick a talker as there is. There is some sort of grudge there. The reason: I don't have the answer.

I used to respect Ms Albright - then I started looking at the positions, etc.

WE DON'T NEED ANOTHER MARGARET THATCHER CLONE in the WhiteHouse (which is what Hillary is smacking of more and more lately).

Now, Ms Albright...I understand you have training as a DIPLOMAT, eh?

Sorry for the spelling and grammer errors.

Will this hostile war saber rattling garbage ever stop? The US people deserve a much better government than the one we have now. No, a socialist Democratic welfare Party replacement is not needed either.

The posted topic comment by Madeline Albright is a shot across the bow of Iran's independence as viable nation. It is a trail balloon to continue to push public opinion towards another unwarranted invasion. That means that the military and state department planning for a new Iran war has been in planning for a long time and that now is the time to sell the plans to the public. Here is your kool-aid.

Perhaps this is the Bottom Line GOP based war machinery perspective: Iran will not play by US or Israeli demands therefore they must be evil, so we must punish them and take away their power by bombing them until their oil and government is under the same UA control as Iraq is now. Plans for military bases in Iran have have already been drafted. We will just have to deal with the blowback and OPEC later.

Before attacking her, read what she said: "The last resort can never be given up completely" is NOT sabre-rattling, war-mongering or any such. It is merely pragmatic: While I'm opposed to the occupation of Iraq and think that an attack on Iran borders on isanity (If it doesn't actually cross that border), I recognize that ALL governments keep military options available. It seems to me that Albright's comment is just a similar recognition

The option of any military action should always be the last resort when all other non-violent diplomatic and economic avenues fail. That is a given. Read more between the lines.

Why even bring up the subject if there is no intend on using it as option that is being considered at some level? There are many other options that never get discussed. Those others options might not sell as many newpapers.

You're presuming that Albright brought it up, rather than her responding to a question. The article doesn't make clear which it is

Albright said that negotiations must take place and made it clear, I thought, that this was so regardless of what opinions may be held of the Iranian president

One of the problems with "reading between the lines" is that you're guessing. You MAY be right, but a guess is all it is

There is another story today about the Iranian president speaking at an Iranian university. Many students protested what they called their "dictator" while inside hand picked students that supported the President were in the crowd. Sounds just like in the United States. He is their Bush. Two peas in a pod. They will fix their problem just like we will fix ours.

Uhm...do you mean the US and Israeli demand that Israel has the right to exist? Is that the demand that you are talking about that Iran refuses to play by? Because you know...that is kind of a basic "demand" and really, if you aren't going to play along with it, what the hell else can Israel do but consider Iran their mortal enemy?

Israeli needs to learn how to stay out of US politics, government, and finances. It is hard to be ally ones self to the consistently bad behavior that often exists in Israel. It is no better than any other country. We should definatly not have another war to aid such a very unethical force. We need not prop up their economy or military forces.

Why should Israel have such a huge hold over the US? That control is not warranted. Why should we a nation join forces with a country that does not intend to be peacefu?

The Jews are no more special than any one else. They deserve to be treated as an average populace with no more aggression or special privileges than anyone else is.
The Israeli government is just as guilty as their neighbors of being bloodthirsty thugs.

Jake asked
What else can Israel do but consider Iran their mortal enemy?

Israel’s self-made enemies are not necessarily the US people's enemies. If they want to go war with Iran, they should do it on their own WITHOUT ANY US assistance.

Is this really all about atomic bombs and religion?

If it is only about the bomb then the public needs to consider this. It is common knowledge that Israel has the bomb and they got it from the US. Britain and France probably also got it from the US. Israel just does not want Iran to have it, because they might be tempted to actually use it. Israeli war hawks does not hesitate in using force.

If it about religion orientation then the fundamentalist fanatic hardliners need to realize they are no more right or wrong, than anyone else. No one is sacred and pure or above reproach. Not Jews, Muslems or Xians. They All need to get over themselves and give everyone else a break. Enough already.
