Union Leader:

Mike Huckabee now leads Rudy Giuliani in Iowa, according to the latest Des Moines Register poll. It's by only one point 12% to 11%, but it's significant in that it shows he is being considered a viable candidate there and that Giuliani is not really concerned about Iowa.

The poll has Romney in the lead with 29 percent, Thompson second with 18 percent, Huckabee third with 12 and Giuliani right behind with 11. McCain is fifth with 7 percent.

Hey folks this guy is a sleeze of the first order. He is a baptist preacher who is pulpit savey, meaning he can and does make himself into whatever you want to hear and see. He also has some background problems on prisoner release, misuse of state funds and a very shadowy PAC group, thought to be associated with Robertson, Falwell or both, that was never exposed prior to him becoming gov. He is a jump on the bankwagon type and is extremely hypocritical. And would certainly be anti-science and abortion. How ever you dress it up, the South-end of a North bound horse is still the South-end of a North bound horse.

Democrats are very lucky that Huckabee isn't doing even better. He's the one Republican that, even given his prisoner problems, could very easily convince Americans that he is their new leader with compassion.

I watched the Republican Debate Tuesday night being held in Michigan. I came away with the notion that there is a divided Republican Party. One group that follows suit with the current administration’s beliefs, “Tell the American people -- only if courts force you to do so.” The other group are few and far between, but stand out in a large crowd.

I’ll start with Ron Paul. He’s making the Party and Americans remember there is still a matter of the Constitution. Congress shall declare war, not one man/woman.

I'm a democrat, and while I wouldn't vote for Huckabee, I must say, as a person, I like him. He is so much more tolerable than Guiliani or Romney.

hey I like him. I love religious folks as pres.

look how well this president has worked out that we evangels voted into office. god told george jr to invade iraq that is good enough for me. god loves wars read the old testament. even big into killing all the women and children so the jews could have a home land.

religon should run america. look at history and how well religion had done running countries. about as well as atheists.

george jr is religious and look how kind and compassonate he is. yes he mocked a person about to die for crimes committed asking to be spared but hey the old testament says an eye for an eye.

yes he said we are kicking ass in iraq but those folks are muslums destined for that other place after they leave this world. we have to fight them over there so we dont have to fight them over here.

and anytime we can use the old testament as validation to kill people I say go for it.

jesus said to forgive 70 times 7 but what did he know. guy was a liberal hippy with long hair and sandles and could not even hold down a steady job.

Speaking as a hardcore athiest secularist I must say Huckabee is the first of this breed I've seen in 20 years that I didn't despise on sight.
Maybe because he lacks the overwhelming spiritual arrogance of most of that crowd. He's not as humble as Carter but he isn't moving storm fronts around by the power of prayer like Pat Robertson either.
Not that I'd want him for president. We have enough Bible college graduates running the government right now, and I'm afraid a President Huckabee would just hire a lot more.
