AP:

Kiefer Sutherland pleaded no contest Tuesday in his drunken driving case and will begin serving a 48-day jail sentence while his Fox TV drama "24" begins its winter production break in December.

The show's star agreed to serve 30 days for driving with a blood-alcohol level above the legal limit of .08 percent, as well as 18 days for violating his probation for a 2004 drunken driving case, according to court records.

"Chloe, I need the blueprints for LA County Penitentiary and I need it NOW!"

"OK, Jack, I just need 5 minutes"

"Dammit Chloe, I don't have five min...oh wait, yeah, I do, sorry, take your' time"

Jus' teasin' Keifer. You're taking the responsibilty and the rap. Good on ya'.

And George W. Bush lied to the World, is responsible for the deaths and suffering of untold thousands in order to reap Oil and Arms profits for his friends.

And he will serve no time in jail.

Once again, America throws away all sense of equity and fairness as we cruxify moral failings like.

His drunk driving didn't hurt a single person, yet we excuse mass murder in Iraq. Fuck MADD, Fuck PETA, eat shit dog lovers...YOU ARE A DISTRACTION!!! Liberals are idiots, well meaning but total fucking idiots.

2nd offense? Whatever time he servces, he needs to have his license permanently revoked before he kills someone. (Of course there would be some sort of poetic irony if he and Brittany collided under the influence.)

I will give him props though for taking responsiblity here. Also, it's admirable that he mentioned his co-workes and not his fans. For example, the skank Lohan saying she went to rehab for her fans because they look up to her, is so full of it. Probably even believes it herself.

What would be ironic is if the person he hits and kills turns out to be an arab terrorist.

Keifer may or may not be a nice guy in real life, and it has nothing to do with DUIs (taken much more seriously in Europe BTW), but does it bother anyone that the show 24 is a non-stop advertisement for torture?

Not just an advert but an ecstatic paean to the miraculous efficacy of well-applied torture. Despite never being seen in the real world (outside of arguments for torture), the ticking time bomb scenario features prominently in every episode.

Always that same bogus moral calculus based on the same imaginary scenario: save millions of sweet innocent Angelenos by torturing this one swarthy fellow, who always has the exact information needed and will give it up under just the right degree of pain and degradation.

Excuse me for being a bit paranoid, but is it true that this series was in the can and ready to air on or about 9-11-01? A big-buck propaganda series that dramatizes the idea that all Arabs are coldblooded terrorists willing to murder their own children, with a reluctant boy next door torturer hero who nonetheless is a master of the art.

How enormously bloody convenient for a regime about to set out on a program of widespread conquest and torture...

You do realize that it's fiction, right?

9-11 or 24?

Chrisa:
A lot of works of fiction have had profound effects on public opinion, and I truly believe that "24" is persuading many that Arabs are inherently villianous, if not subhuman, and that torture is an effective means of getting information.
Having suspended their disbelief in order to enjoy the program, people often find it difficult to resume it when the time comes to deal with the real world.

He is the epitome for "TransAmerica" for the neocons and the agents of torture. Sutherland is a good guy but his character is often likened to by the right wing nuts

I hope they too go to jail for all their deceit and illegalities ...

1152 hours is 48 days. I think that's way too much.

I disagree. It's about these Hollywood types start paying for their crimes.

Karma for all the torture fantasies he's acted out.

He's not the only one though.

Denzel Washington among many other "action hero" movie stars has some very bad torture scenes.

But Seifer Sutherland was crass enough to start in a TV series torturing people in one episode after another.

Sad. I really enjoyed Donald Sutherland in Body Snatchers.

So how long is a 48 day sentence? I mean in celebrity time. An hour or two. Somewhat like metric time.

Keifer, I love you man but please eat while you're in jail!
