Weighing in again on the Don Imus controversy, the National Association of Black Journalists Tuesday said the radio personality who outraged many with his comments about "nappy-headed ho's" should not be allowed back on the air.

NABJ called reports that Imus is in negotiations with Citadel Broadcasting and Fox News "unimaginable."

"It seems inconceivable that less than a year after Imus was dismissed from CBS Radio and MSNBC for his vicious insults upon the Rutgers women's basketball team, that Citadel Broadcasting and Fox News would consider putting him back on the air," Ernie Suggs, NABJ's vice president of print said in a statement. Suggs is an enterprise reporter at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

This is despicable! I'm am so fed up with the hypocrisy. Don Imus, the autistic community's champion, is a good person and we will not let this group get in our way again - our children need him.

This is reverse racism!

It is also completely outrageous labeling what Imus said as hate speech. The man was doing an entertainment show and attempting to be funny. There was no anger or intent to harm. Put it in context. He was paid to be outrageous. Thank god for sane voices like DL Hughley and Imus friends like Harold Ford Jr.

Exactly. There was no malice when he said this and to say it's "spewing hate speech" or words to that effect, is just beyond ridiculous. I'll bet there is not one person who claims to be so offended actually heard Imus speak the words at a little after 6:00 in the morning so they could judge for themselves the true context of the statement. Who would have heard it? The fans of the show who understood the program and knows the man has a heart of gold.

I thought Harold Ford Jr. turned his back on Imus.
I just hope I am wrong.

This is beyond absurd - journalists wanting to censor?! This is nothing more than a Hillary Clinton group trying to silence someone who doesn't support her like Limbaugh. I will fight this with every bone in my body - people cannot tell me what I can listen to or watch.

I'll say it again- what Imus did was bad; what was done to Imus was worse.

I'm no fan of Imus, but this is ridiculous. I received an email from NOW yesterday about keeping Imus off the air. I responded by saying that maybe Imus has learned his lesson. Give him another chance. And, get back to me when you want to remove Limbaugh or Hannity from the air. They make the I-man seem like a sweetheart.

Sounds like some nappy-headed ho's are still pissed off.

Please, this is no news.
Move on Journalists. A few tips ..
Pre- election time . Go and support a candidate who would be for moving on and not back. Someone who could get us out of Iraq and money is spend on issues this country needs. Universal health care. Support the Step Cell Reasearch to find a cure for the now untreatable disease.

What kind of example these people are setting, this is overtaxing out sympathy which could backfire ..

What kind of paradise are these people living in that keeping the cryptkeeper from having a radio show is of central importance to them?

NABJ: go screw yourselves. I guess O'Reilly making racist comments are OK as long as he doesn't use the phrase "nappy-headed hos". I have always detested Imus, but get the hell over yourselves. When you grow up, come sit at the table with the adults.

Imus has paid the piper, he's done his time. Now it's time for him to come back on the air. This is way beyond the pale for this group of journalists (NAJB) to continue with their protests, way beyond any sense of fairness. And to think a group of journalists who rely on freedom of speech and freedom of the press to try to permanently ban someone from the air is so unAmerican!

Right many moons.
No small personal comments about any thing should keep people off the airways or even from a blog. If everyone on the internet had gotten the same treatment as Imus there would be no one posting anything with a personal opinion. Stating a personal opinion: That is all Imus did. That is all many people ever do.

Some hypersensitive people need to get some thicker skin and live with the reality of the demands upon. People like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton have too much influence.

Who gives a crap about black journalists upset over Don Imus? I never really thought about listening to his show, but he deserves the right to work. If a network is willing to hire him so be it.

Imus should do the rest of us a favor and just fade away into obscurity. I have no idea why any ever watched / listened to Imus. Imus has nothing to offer the world and never had.

Why should other people be allowed to listen to what they want when I don't like it? The world was created for me, me, me. Marconi invented the radio simply for my entertainment. Where do people get off liking things without my prior written approval?

Do us a favor then. Don't listen. Only quality listeners are allowed.

Al Sharpton got over the Tawanda Brawley scandal and that was far more racially divisive and damaging than Imus's comments. And this isn't about any justifiable moral outrage on the part of the black journalists - it's about free advertising for them. Imus will probably survive this, with the bonus that gazillions of people who never heard of him, now at least know his name.

You can rest assured that nothing would make many of us happier than to see people like Rush Limbaugh, Glen Beck, Ann Coulter and others like them pushed off the air. These narrow minded hate mongers add nothing in the way of intellegent conversation and serve only to divide the country.

Really the reason Imus got the boot is he had become increasingly critical of the Bush administration, which was insulting to his core listeners, decreasing his popularity.
