Weighing in again on the Don Imus controversy, the National Association of Black Journalists Tuesday said the radio personality who outraged many with his comments about "nappy-headed ho's" should not be allowed back on the air.

NABJ called reports that Imus is in negotiations with Citadel Broadcasting and Fox News "unimaginable."

"It seems inconceivable that less than a year after Imus was dismissed from CBS Radio and MSNBC for his vicious insults upon the Rutgers women's basketball team, that Citadel Broadcasting and Fox News would consider putting him back on the air," Ernie Suggs, NABJ's vice president of print said in a statement. Suggs is an enterprise reporter at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

who cares if this old fart gets a show or not?
Are we THAT desperate for entertainment?

He's got plenty of money - not that I give a crap - but if there are listeners that excited about his return let them worry about it.

Imus entertained me, as he has since the early '70s when I first arrived in NYC. Morning Joe is grating and irritating and does not entertain me. I would rather wake up to Imus. I don't worry about it but I do care.

Hey, he can have a fucking show. So what. I don't have to watch him and I won't. If he keeps running his yap I'll write to his sponsors. So, behave Don and don't pretend that you're something you're not.

Perhaps this group of journalists (can you imagine the outcry if there existed a "National Association of White Journalists?") should concentrate on the problems in their community, considering they think of themselves first as black. Let's start with the dog fighters, next the rappers, and take it from there. No shortage of projects!

Perhaps, your highness, you's care ro recite a list of well-known black journalists since World War II.

That's why the need a National Association.

This post simply demonstrates the complete detachment and discounting that many in the white community commit about the nature of their own organizations. They assume that since their organizations do not have the word 'white' somewhere in its name that it does not function in promoting the natural interests of whites.

No subject can so quickly demonstrate some folks tendency to abandon critical thinking than race, especially when it demands for these same 'some' to move beyond their own prejudices and look at themselves squarely in the mirror.

I would rather listen to Imus than Sharpton.

Well, if a choice, neither. But Sharpton's choice of causes to support have only increased my distrust of him. What ever made Al and Jesse Jackson think they were competent to be the next Martin Luther King?

I dont think Rev. King would have created the mob scene at Duke or the wierdness in Jena.

But, then, I think all politicians and public figures are self serving egoists.

There were those who would rather listen to Rudolph Hess than Franklin Roosevelt, or Mussolini than Churchill. What you distrust is fairness. You distrust not having the upper hand. You distrust not having "that privelidge". I used to BE you, but I had to go through six years of hell, because I trusted that some guy that I voted for...(for the WRONG reason)...had my best interest at heart.
Trust who you want to Boris...but you're lookin' like a fool to me.

Imus is a positive person and will get the job with or without the National Association of Blakck Journalists.

Wouldn't it be great if he went on the air and everyone "voted" by NOT LISTENING AND BOYCOTTING PRODUCTS ADVERTISED??? I am a fan of free speech, not Don Imus. Color should not be a factor in protesting this kuckle dragger.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 05:56 PM on 10/09/2007

The Imus support groups have already done that. And that is why Morning Joe and Esiason and Carton are doing so poorly.

They can't pull the dough on advertisers. And no one listens or watches.

Imus is not a knuckle dragger in any sense of the word. He's not Limbaugh. He's a comedian (for good or ill), but he's also said a far share of progressive things, from his early support of 50 Cent, to his support of Harold Ford Jr.'s senate campaign, to calling the VP a war criminal (and that last part imo got him fired at least as much as the Rutgers comment, but no one will cop to it).

Do you know who killed the Imus radio program? It wasn't the NHH statement. It was Media Matters. Hillary Clinton's left wing protector of her name. They used Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson as runners and created such a media frenzy that no one knew what happened.

Wake up. It is not the end of the world. YET!

Ariana Huffington censored me? Why. I told it like it is.

Don Imus cares about the Black race more then the Black race cares about themselves.

The NABJ is trying to use a double standard. They cannot stop an individual from hiring another. He didn't kill a dog or rob a hotel room.

The Don Imus ranch spent 2.6 million on 100 kids last year for 16 weeks the ranch was open. That works out to $27,000 per child, or just under $3,000 per night for their typical nine-day stays. For the same amount, a child could stay in a top suite at New York's Waldorf Astoria or secure a cabin on the Queen Mary 2. According to its latest tax filings, the ranch's expenses totaled $2.6 million in 2003 and $2.7 million in 2002.
By comparison, Camp Starfish, another well-known kids charity, hosts over 150 kids a summer on a budget of $360,000 a year, according to tax filings. Actor Paul Newman's charity, The Hole in the Wall Gang Fund, has a budget that's more than twice as large as the Imus Ranch but hosts 10 times as many kids at its summer camp, its filing says. It also sponsors year-round programs.
See the con artist people are supporting.

So what's your point. You just want to send under priviliged kids to camp. Any person can do that for a couple hundred dollars.

The Imus experience is one they don't forget.

Thanks for your comment.

interesting info.

I always wondered how they raised and spent THAT much money and only worked with 100 kids for the whole year. There's lots of good old boy shit going on there.

Good for you Don, but I prefer to send my charitable contributions to orgs that have a lower overhead...much lower.

You may need to watch the Imus Ranch Special that ran on RFD TV. The profound effect on severely ill children's lives is amazing.
Further, it is easy to stand outside and offer criticism, the real question should be what have you done to change lives except complain about what others do.

John Wayne Gacy, a local Chicago businessman regularly supported causes for children, even volunteering as a 'clown' at churches, hospitals and other civic events. The problem was of course, the 36 or so boys and young men he had entombed under the foundation of his home. While, I'm not indicating Imus is a killer, only that many people can possess 2 different and conflicting personal characteristics.

Imus is a representation of the proverbial a flawed character who while doing remarkable things is blinded by his own prejudices and biases; believing that an occasional support of a black candidate somehow translate into him being absence of racism. Yet, what is clear is the pattern of racial banter that was produced by Imus and his racist court jester Bernard McGuirk, and the assorted characters who rarely, if ever seem to be cognizant of its offensiveness.

Just because its a cattle ranch doesn't mean the children have to be treated like cattle.
The children who visit the the Ranch are seriously ill and require specialized medical care and attention including having doctors, nurses, EMTS and child life specialists available on a 24 hour basis. Neither the Waldorf Astoria nor the Queen Mary 2 is equipped to provide the level of care necessary.
This is a first rate facility, the children are entitled to and receive a high level of care and come away with a life time experience. This may in fact be the most meaningful experience of their lives away from their families in that 20% of these children eventually succumb to their diseases.
IR is a fully functional cattle ranch which operates 12 months a year. The highest paid employee of the ranch earns less then $60K per year. The $2.6M quoted roughly 1/3 is for depreciation of the facility which is non cash impacting, 1/3 is for the operation of the ranch - you can't have a cattle ranch w/o cattle, and 1/3 is spent on the children transportation, medical care, specialists, meals and programs.
Hole in the Wall provides services for 1,000 children at with expense of $6.5M and the IR provides services for 100 children at an expense of $850K. IR has expenses Hole in the Wall gang does not with $8500 vs $6500 per child IR is not out of line with the expense of the Hole in the Wall.

It is time to ignore the ignorant. Al Sharpton said he had no problem with Imus returning. Guess the NABJ doesn't consider Al Sharpton very important. Well they got one thing right.

There can be no double standard by the National Association of Black Journalists. They cannot have their cake and eat it too. Don Imus paid the price that everyone there wanted. Now he is going to come back as a new man with a new message.

Hypocrits like NABJ should just take care of the problems they are facing in the Black community. Don Imus is no threat to them or to anyone. For that matter he is a positive force. He got rap music to begin to clean up their act. NABJ doesn't really care about that. Many of their big contributors come from that foul mouthed crowd of alleged musicians.

Well if anyone thinks in the 4000 member National Association of Black Journalists that they are going to put a damper on free enterprise. They have another thing coming.

Bruce from Florida says: Imus does more good for the Black community then the Black community does for themselves. Wake up People.

Who is patronizing Amanda? I believe N A B J is trying to patronize Citadel Broadcasting. Or should I say attempt to threaten them.

Sorry if I offended you. But that is the way Don Imus is. He will give to everyone. And has provided much to the black community.
