This is a very facile and actually insipid kind of statement. There are plenty of examples of women who get fertilized eggs implanted to at least show how ignorant this statement is.
And it would take immense amounts of anthropologic data to demonstrate that the patriarchal family is a "construct". That may be, but show me the data.
I think it's fair to say that a child needs both parents, because each has their function.
Is pregnancy at a late age selfish or otherwise not a good thing to do? Maybe. But women do it too.
Sweeping generalizations like this just show the ignorance of the writer.
And furthermore, I, as a biological father, relocated 1500 miles to be a parent to my son, who had been relocated by my ex and her present husband. My son is demonstrably better off emotionally and psychologically. I think this single example negates your statement that the biological father is superfluous. Biological fathers who allow their parental instincts to lead them do some pretty amazing things.
