The Swamp:

Reporters on the trail with Sen. Hillary Clinton are reporting that she has dropped her "baby bond" idea, the notion that the federal government would give each baby at birth $5,000 to be used later for college or to help purchase a first home.

Clinton, the front runner in national and many state polls among Democrats seeking the presidential nomination, caught a lot of flak from former Rudy Giuliani, the former New York City mayor and others for the idea, which her campaign is saying was only a concept, not a policy position.

As AP reports today:

... Clinton said she has given up another idea for a savings incentive -- giving every baby born in the United States a $5,000 account to one day pay for college or a first home.

Hillary Clinton made a fool of me. A Fox-watching friend told me Hillary wants to give $5000 to every child. I told her this is obviously a typical Fox lie. No savvy Democrat would ever say such a dumb thing, and nobody's savvier than Hillary. We also know it's a lie because it's a declarative sentence that names a specific dollar amount, and Hillary is constitutionally incapable of making declarative statements.

Well, guest what. The Democratic frontrunner proved me wrong. This women who won't commit to one lump or two carelessly commits to giving away billions of dollars a year to (cue violins) our nation's children. I'm very skeptical of polls calling her the frontrunner. I'm certainly not voting for her.

Oh, but there's so much more;

Bill and Hillary Clinton, the media, and the courts are all in cahoots to hide her criminal activity in the pursuit of a political agenda that will harm more than it could ever possibly help.

And, millions of democrats approve!

My mini-rant was intended for fellow skeptical Democrats, not Fox kool-ade drinkers. Hillary-the-Ripper is wholly a right-wing think-tank creation and only a fool would believe it. Bush's crimes are causing death and misery before your eyes, if you'd only open them.

"From each according to their ability to each according to their need." - Marx

How about a really novel idea like PERSONAL RESPONSIBILTY?

Who needs a job when the government will give you everything you need from cradle to grave?

Medicaid
Food stamps
"Baby bonds"
College loans and grants
unemployment
Middle class medical welfare, AKA S-CHIP
lawsuits
Social security
Medicare
"American" retirement account

I am still waiting for Huff post to discuss t Hilary's 401k proposal. I guess it is too serious for the air heads of esteemed Huff post. They find Kiefer Sutherland, Mrs Obama's minor accident, Fox's comments about Bush far more important.

Don't we have Social Security already?

Why add another layer to what we already have, or is it that the former is not sufficiently sound to meet its intended obligations?

Oh, that's right, there's nothing wrong with Social Security.

It reminds me of George Bush's promise to give every American a $600 tax break. Why was that proposal popular and this one ridiculed? It's all in the way they were treated by the media.

Maybe she has some hope to be a president after all. Everyone has dumb ideas, but being able to admit to it, and not worry about your ego and get rid of it before it causes major damage shows promise.

More than you can say for Bush. He has dumb ideas all the time. But is to full of himself to admit they are dumb, even to the point of thousands dead and trillions of dollars gone. But hey, he did stay the course. Kind of like if a drunken school bus driver stayed the course and drove the bus right over the cliff. That a boy Georgie!

Not "some hope" Loki, she WILL be our 44th President! Barack Hussein and Edwards are headed South while the Repugnants don't know whether they are coming or going!

Hillary will be inaugurated and the Nader-herd will continue ranting as they did in 1992 and 1996 and 2000 and 2004 and ... to be continued ...

"Everyone has dumb ideas"

Baby bonds isn't necessarily a dumb idea. It comes from Britain, where it has been implemented successfully. That doesn't guarantee that it would work in America, but it's evidence that the idea works in principle and should be investigated further.

We shouldn't throw out the baby bonds with the bathwater, but we shouldn't dive in headfirst either. Baby steps...

For social security, as people reach 65 she can give them a "poke" of $10 and a donkey. She can wish them luck and send them off to find security in the mountains. On the bright side, it would take care of many homeless people in cities. [Shame on me]

If the polls told her it would help her get elected, Hillary would divorce Bill, become a Republican and vote to invade Britain. And she would be the same dishonext, calculating, pandering, power hungry, warmongering Hillary. Heaven help us if this woman is nominated and elected.

Bush-Clinton-Bush-Clinton, Jeb will be next.

Seriously though, has the Nader-herd ever attempted a meaningful comment except for their usual rants! No wonder their mantra is losing!

Another flip-flop from Hillary...why am I not surprised? I'm waiting for the reporter or debate moderator who will ask Hillary to explain why in 2006 before she won her senate re-election campaign, she spoke out forcefully AGAINST a timetable for troop withdrawal from Iraq, insisting that a timetable would be a "grave mistake", only to turn around and vote FOR troop withdrawal in 2007 when the democrats sent the troop withdrawal bill to the floor.

Scared me, I thought the headline said 'Hillary ditches Barry Bonds'. Must have scared Barry too; no one likes to be abandoned.

I like the baby bond proposal.

But I think that one of the jobs of a politician is to consider ideas and drop them if it appears they won't work, even if they are good ideas. I applaud Hillary for coming up with this idea and for dropping it in the face of fierce opposition.

Maybe its time will come during her second term...

Yeah, that's the problem, geneven.

Hillary drops anything in the face of opposition. (Like healthcare. She's been bought and paid for by the health industry.)

She doesn't stand for anything, but she'll tell you anything.

Her saying that baby-bonds-bribe bit was totally ridiculous and transparent. She's way beyond a pandering old politician.

"Vote For Me! Free money for everyone! Make money while you sit at home!" Money for having babies?

Is this lady insane?

Oh wait, Hillary is the one who said we'd NUKE the hills in pakistan to get to bin laden. She also just gave the go ahead to Bush/Cheney to bomb Iran.

Hillary is crazy.

A war mongering, pandering, power hungry, desperate, maniac.

But she proposed an even better program. Why the negative spin?

I wish Hillary didn't ditch this proposal because I worked out my own talking points on the issue and I was going to berate the lunatic left with them for the next 13 months.

Don't worry, I'll find something else to humiliate you all with... it's what I do.

This is precisely why the chance of getting a federal single payer health plan out of Hillary is about nil. She takes just a little bit of criticism, she gets worried about her political career, and she caves. She's done this before many times over and she will most likely do this again. Call Hillary a hippie peacenik socialist, and she'll bomb Iran, then cut Medicare. Personally, I'd rather have the hippie peacenik socialist Hillary...I'd rather have my tax dollars going towards helping people out with their health care rather than murdering people overseas. But any sane human would make that choice.

I'm sorry people, if any of you thought Hillary "seemed presidential", you were confusing that with basic acting. Anyone can "seem presidential". But being a real leader means a whole lot more than worrying about your political career. Ever wonder why Hillary did such a quick about-face on the Iraq occupation? All it took was one round of boos at her, and one round of applauses for Kucinich, for her to change her tune quick.

Now Ralph Nader was "Presidential"! So is Kucinich and Gravel ... anyone else I missed on the looney fringe?!

As hydenorhare said the day this lead balloon was launched:

Like I said on the following page, this idea will likely fade into history very quickly.

It was meant to establish Hillary's Socialist bona fides but not to be taken seriously.
