Editor And Publisher:

Appearing on Larry King's CNN show Thursday night, Stephen Colbert was accused by the host of using the publication of his new book as a platform to run for president. Colbert happily confirmed this, saying that he would seek the nomination from both parties.

When King said this was a "cop out," Colbert, host of his own talk show, The Colbert Report on Comedy Central, said that it actually demonstrated true "courage" because "I could lose twice."

The Smothers Brothers Comedy hour publically denounced the Vietnam War on national tv. They are liberals and in denouncing the war and President Johnson, they were way before their time. The Pat Paulsen presidential campaign grew from this orig platform as he was a regular on their show.

Here is an opening clip to the Smothers Brothers Comedy hour with a special guest who joins them.

Pretty cool, thanks for the link. The Smothers Brothers Show also gave a big boost to George Carlin, as the Hippy Dippy Weatherman....man!

How many of you are too young to remember Pat Paulsen?

If you don't recall his name, then you've really missed out on a huge part of our lives in the 70's when the Smother's Brother's tv Comedy Hour pushed the limits of what's acceptable on tv.. with their politically liberal views.

They had regulars on their show as any variety show does, and one of those was comedian Pat Paulsen, who (sort of) ran for president in a big way in this country. You'd have to google it to read up on how big a thing this was back then.. but it was huge and worth googling to learn about another era and this same type of comedic push for the presidency.

Ha ha ha, a parody of all the "idiots" who routinely suggest nominating Rush Limbaugh every 4 years for president. :) Nice

(I put idiots in quote, because I really believe that it's a movement fully started by Limbaugh himself as a publicity stunt)

Colbert's humor and quick wit (not to mention his amazing ability to stay in character) predispose me to believe he is by far more intelligent and down-to-earth than the current crop of pretenders to the throne.

I would vote for him over every damn one of them (with the exception of Al Gore were he to run) in a New York minute.

The spirit of Pat Paulsen is alive and well.

Do we really need any more funny crap in the white house?

Nothing that's going in in the white house is funny. Never was.

Stephen, you rock! Make Jon Stewart or Steve Carell your running mate! You'd win hands down! You are just the change we need in this country - a leader with a personality, wit, charm, intelligence, and a brain that works in magnificent ways. You have my vote!

I LOVE YOU! Will you make me your running mate?

Finally! A serious One-Party candidate. And hope that the entire-year-plus of coverage until the election might actually contain some truthiness.

Stephen and Larry were discussing who Stephen's running mate should be. How about Larry King? Either one would be an improvement over what we have now!

Colbert was discussing who his running mate should be. How about Larry King? They both certainly have name recognition.

Either one of them would be a big improvement over what we have now.
