Larry Craig And Wife Suzanne To Be Interviewed By NBC's Lauer

TV Newser reports NBC's Matt Lauer has successfully solicited (pun intended) the first network news interview with Sen. Larry Craig (R-ID) since he pleaded guilty after being arrested in a men's bathroom.

Even better, Lauer will interview Craig's wife, Suzanne. A political woman hasn't stood by her scandal-struck man like this since...well, um...I guess since Wendy Vitter did this July for her escort-service husband Sen. David Vitter (R-LA) (watch the highly uncomfortable press conference). Suzanne Craig has never spoken out about Larry's bathroom bust.

Craig's stepchildren, Shea Howell and Michael Craig, are the only other members of his family who have spoken to the media on behalf of their father. They gave an interview to "Good Morning America" on Sept. 4, shortly after details of their father's arrest became public. Michael Craig claimed his father was "a victim of circumstance, in the wrong place at the wrong time."

According to NBC's press release, Matt Lauer's interview with Craig will air next Tuesday during a "Matt Lauer Reports" prime time special. Excerpts will also run during the "Today Show" on Wednesday morning.

Yes, Lauer is the last person that needs to interview larry craig. He treats ann coulter as a visiting dignitary. Still, Larry Craig won't redeem himself at all. There will be a few who will believe him but there is an ever present percentage of people who will always believe anything! He will deny it and Matt Lauer will probably pat his hand and tell him he understands, that it was all a big misunderst­anding....­its just those mean old liberals again.....­..It'll be the best T V since the O J trial. watching craig will be a vomit inducing experience and he will only make things even worse for himself, and luckilly the republicans, by this interview.

I never saw Matt Lauer as conservative. I don't watch the Today Show these days, maybe he's changed, but here in New York when he worked locally he always struck me as smart and open minded.

Good for NBC! We are going to need all the footage of this guy we can get in 2008 in our family values spots. Flying this week on a plane (12C) a joke was made (by me to others) and 12B took offense at the use of Larry Craig instead of Senator in the joke. Once you are in such deep denial, especially to the wife, there is no turning back. Even though he is guilty he can't change his story at this point. well, he should, but he won't....i­n too deep.
