NSA Retaliated Against Qwest Communications For Refusing To Participate In Phone Spying Program

Rocky Mountain News:

The National Security Agency and other government agencies retaliated against Qwest because the Denver telco refused to go along with a phone spying program, documents released Wednesday suggest.

The documents indicate that likely would have been at the heart of former CEO Joe Nacchio's so-called "classified information" defense at his insider trading trial, had he been allowed to present it.

This is an example of the truly scary ess that doesn't get adequate air time on corporate media. The electorate in general may be dumb but they could understand this and I believe they would make decisions that reinforce civil liberties.

Actually folks, Joe was tried and convicted for insider trading. Nothing to do with this at all. Yes Qwest is wonderful, but nothing to do with Joe. He was a little stop over CEO in the whole picture of the company. He made our stocks drop from $90 a share to $2. So no back slapping him!!!! I am a retiree of Qwest I am not too happy with Joe. I am waiting for him to do his time behind bars!!!!

When the telephone scandal broke and I heard that Qwest was the one company that stood up to the government, I immediatly switched my long distance carrier to Qwest. This news only makes me happier to do business with them.

Nacchio has been convicted of 19 counts because he stood up to the Bush administration and refused to go along with illegal spying. A new Colorado US Attorney was brought in to prosecute Nacchio. The programs in question, one of which he did go along with, were both BEFORE 9-11!!!!!!!!!

Nacchio is facing prison because he would not go along when the other companies did go along.

He was charged with manipulating stock in his company. This is from documents in his criminal file.

The hits just keep on coming. I would refer you to harpers.org's Scott Horton who has been writing in depth coverage of Gov. Siegelman's trial and conviction in Alabama. This fiasco was so rigged that it resembles that of the Democrat tried, convicted and then released after a few months in prison because a new judge threw the case out because it was obviously completely contrived. The current bunch of loyal Bushies are showing what an illegal and unjust Justice dept. we have.

It is completely plausible that the administration would place a hit on Qwest and its CEO. Now that Gen. Sanchez is speaking truth to power, he will be desecrated for his trouble. Whistleblower laws and protections are myths.
