Reuters:

Some of Hollywood's biggest and brightest stars turned out on Friday night to pay tribute to one of its own -- actress Julia Roberts but she declared she was most happy in her roles as wife and mother.

"I really am just a girl from a little town in Georgia, who had this giant, absurd dream," said the Oscar-winning actress, who accepted the 22nd Annual American Cinematheque Award at a benefit dinner in Beverly Hills.

Roberts has had a nineteen year career and I can only think of a couple of her movies I actually enjoyed and can think of no role that someone else wouldn't have done a better job in. Sure I liked 'Closer' but Roberts seemed to be struggling to 'act' as opposed to being 'a movie star'. Admit it, most 'benefit dinners' would celebrate pretty much anybody famous who's willing to show up that evening.

BUT, she's survived being famous in America (more than some can say) and can buy and sell me a hundred thousand times over. So who am I to criticize?

She is overrated but benign...certainly in the same league as Tom Hanks (gag) who has won so many Oscars ...but at least they are benign, not really scandalous, seem to be nice hardworking folks.

Talent (or lack thereof) can be measured in light years if you starts with the likes of Audrey Hepburn or Grace Kelly and end up with drunken tarts like Lohan or the Olsen anomalies. Somewhere in the middle, to top third, you'll find Julia Roberts. Likeable and somewhat talented, but waaaaaaaaaaaaay overpaid for her contribution to cinematic history.

Bullshit news. Noone needs to give a shit that Roberts is the little girl from Georgia. Cut the shit, you slob-noone needs to be reminded that your only an actress with a spoiled reputation. Hollywood trolls her out to offset the really horrid press they have gotten.

I've never really thought that endless wide smiles constituted great acting. Yes, she is one of the most overrated actresses today. And a husband stealer to boot.

Couldn't the honor have gone to an older, more deserving actress? No, I suppose not. They're no longer box office.

I think Tom Hanks said it best; "Everybody loves Julia Roberts." I sure do.

Every woman nonimated was more deserving that she. But the funny thing is Ellen Burstyn was the best acting job between either sex.

Joan Allen - The Contender as Sen. Laine Hanson
Juliette Binoche - Chocolat as Vianne Rocher
Ellen Burstyn - Requiem for a Dream as Sara Goldfarb
Laura Linney - You Can Count on Me as Samantha 'Sammy' Prescott

One of the biggest shames of all time when she won the OScar! She won that one of name and nothing else. Travesity on the level of when that reality chick won last year. I wish she would retire already b/c she is overated.

Whatever. It's not as bad as Gyneth Paltrow winning for that Shakespeare etc. movie. What a joke of a performance and she's not even publicly "nice" unlike Julia.

For some reason I think fondly of Julia Roberts because she was really cool and I think of her as a pre war chick.

I dig her. If I were straight, I'd do her.....

I know she would want to do me....

I have yet to see a Roberts movie that made me think she was a great actress or actor or whatever the hell they call themselves these days.

But hey, what do I know? George Bush was also elected president.

People can be fooled into believing anything.

Yes, she was cute the first time she did that "shocked" routine when Richard Gere opened the box containing a diamond ring.

Since then she's worked that utterly surprised and delighted reaction into everything she does.

*yawn*

In the wake of Britney, Lohan, Hilton, etc. This probably seemed like a good idea right about now. America's starting to think that everyone in film & TV is a crackhead, suicidal moron. The "Girl Next Door" reminds us there's still another Hollywood out there, one that 'E.T.' and 'Inside Edition' don't want to touch.

Watched "Erin Brockovich" the other night for the umpteenth time. Still a knockout performance, and pairing her with Albert Finney was PERFECT!

"23 BILLLLLLLLLion? WOW! I didn't know it was THAT MUCH! 23 BILLION! HOOOOly COW!"

Priceless!
