When Fox News aired a report in January claiming that Sen. Barack Obama had been educated at a radical Muslim madrassa, his campaign beat the story back -- hard -- with the candidate himself going on television to call it "ludicrous" and a "smear."

And his aggressive defense worked, or so it seemed at the time: The notion that Obama has secret Muslim roots faded from the mainstream media, and even from most conservative blogs and magazines.

Religion shouldn't play a part in politics unless the candidates himself brings it up, as Obama has. It is revelent to ask how much his "African American" Christiananity colors his views on America. He certainly has an obligation to answer the same questions that Romney is being asked. Many doctrines of the African Centric Church Obama belongs to are racist. Does he ascribe to those views?

My Gawd...Obama belongs to the PROGRESSIVE United Church of Christ. Granted it is mostly an Af Am church but it is not a racist ideology. The denomination is of an inclusive and a social justice ilk. So either find out for yourself or don't post this stuff. I do agree that some AF Am are very narrow and fundamentalist..but Obama is not there. And he did not bring up his faith base, the conservatives who are so afraid of a thinking president ASKED them. The forum asked them. Get real.

Never underestimate the gullibility of the American people. Email propaganda is disturbingly effective. I can't believe how many of my students and friends actually repeat the most off-the-wall crap they get from emails sent to them by trusted friends.

I suggest the DNC get busy and crank out their own email-ganda regarding Giuliani's mafia ties, Thompson's wife's prostitution past, and Romney's secret plan to institute polygamy. Since the days of Republican Senator Joseph McCarthy and the witch hunts for communists, the GOP has come to increasingly rely on dirty tricks, lies, and telling us who to be afraid of in order to gain and keep power.

Success has fueled ever more and bigger dirty tricks. Today we have a host of right wing talking heads, a press largely cowed into repeating lies and avoiding the tough but important questions, and a Republican Party that not only was happy to accept bribes from K street, but demanded that K street hire only Republicans if they wanted their bribes to be accepted.

It is not only not surprising that untraceable and extremely hateful lies are said about anyone who threatens to reduce bribes to Republicans, it is entirely predictable, typical, and what we have come to expect from what we used to call the party of Lincoln.

Today, honorable Republicans are in the minority, as the GOP has been taken over by power hungry and amoral people who, in the words of Lt. General Ricardo Sanchez, should be arrested and charged with crimes.
