As far as I can see the only specific business sectors that have a vested interest in continued aliance with the GOP: oil/energy and big pharma.

Where am I wrong?

They have't abandoned anything, or anyone, as its all still going to "our?" congress and senators . . . call it a bit of a swtich to the new team in town, right Madame speaker!

We were blatantly robbed. The schemes, all from lying about the unemployed, the debt, all figures manipulated and do you really think they care? They already got their wealth put aside, more than they can spend in a lifetime.
And did you think they were religious. They figured it out long ago, you attach catchy
names like patriotism, terrorists, war on drugs,
religion, and people will fall for it - and they did!

I want to believe, but it just looks like strategic realignment to me. Business is still hedging it's bets. The good news is that the Republican Brand Image, "World Strong, Family Safe" has flamed out. It only took a phony & bungled war, job outsourcing, income gap, global warming, blatant K St corruption, Katrina, Leapin' Larry and timely help from Republican hugging, mega church pastors who can't seem to keep their dicks in their vestments. Did I leave anything out observant readers?

We the People will not get an opportunity like this again. If we value our Constitution, old and tired though it be, let us work together and kill the Republican Party. Stake through the heart, thrown down the chasm dead. As politically popular as pedophiles dead. Wait another election cycle and the thugs that control the GOP will re-brand and finish our checks & balances for good.

THEY WERE ALSO SAYING BILL CLINTON WAS A CORPORATE CRONY, HE MADE THE RICH AND BIG BUISNESS PAY THEIR "FAIR" SHARE OF TAXES AND WE HAD THE LONGEST EXPANSION IN USA HISTORY AND THE RICH STILL GOT RICHER JUST THE SAME, I MISS BILL'S GOLDEN YEARS, AS FOR THE GOP THEIR MOTTO IS: I GOT MINE AND TO HELL WITH EVERYONE ELSE, CHECK OUT THE YOU-TUBE SCHIP VIDEO CLIPS ON THE KIDS LOSING HEALTH COVERAGE AND SEE HOW COMPASSIONATE THEY ARE.

The republicans have no compassion. The parents of this child who spoke for the democrats to extend this health care for kids have received threats and it has been stated that some of the grief came directly from the top republicans in Congress.
I am not surprised that the big oil compaines are still giving huge amounts to the republicans the republicans are the ones benefiting the most from this war in Iraq which according to many was all about oil.

How about public funding of campaigns? How about equal access to the media? It doesn't make sense for a campaign to cost millions

And free air time for primary winners should be a contractual requirement for any TV network or radio station that receives an FCC license.

Take it or leave it.
And that would make public funding of elections a lot cheaper.

Most of the cost is TV ad time.

Corporatism run by plutocrats is not democracy. That is America's problem.

GOP has just borrowed 10 thousand dollars on bahalf of every citizen of the United States including the homeless and increased the National dept by 3 trillion dollars. Those delusional billionaires who keep milking the exhausted cow simply do not care. However, the top Dem candidates are just as bad.

Good news and bad news. Good: Big Biz already knows the Dems will win in 2008. Bad: they will buy the Dem leaders and block real change.

Correct. They already paid for Hillary.

People who know how tho make money don't really care what party is running the government. I've made and lost money under every president since Kennedy. Only a complete failure blames his troubles on the party in power.

Backing a looser is a wasted investment.

And it doesn't matter if Democrats aren't 'business friendly' there are still ways of working around the fringes of a bill to make it less unprofitable or to make it more unprofitable to your competitors. Businesses in fact aren't scared of Democrats. They made plenty of money during the Clinton years.

Make since. If you are in business, and the middle-class is being wiped-out, who's going to buy your products and services?

This is actually old news but it still gives me a chuckle.

The majority of corps will always back Republicans because while the Democratic party is 'for the people', the Repulican party is 'for the corporations'.. and that fact will never change.

But still, it's good to see that some big names are tuning them out for this next election.

Guess they want to get in on the ground floor with the new party in control. Power and money, politicians and businesses.

Business leaders, unlike the-out-of-touch far right, have to sell their products to the public at large. They also know that a good economy is necessary to sell products. Republicans have relied entirely on increased credit card debt, increased home mortgage debt, and increased government debt since 2001 to grow the economy -- basically a modern day version of the old Ponzi scheme. A solid economy by contrast, would have required increased wages, increased small business profits, increased shareholder profits from large corporations, and no debt increases. Instead, personal debt soared, government debt soared, and an obscene percentage of large corporate profits were given to top executives as "pay", rather than going to shareholders. (Also, as a sign of ultimate government economic irresponsibility, nine billion dollars cash sent to Iraq early in the war is "missing".) Democrats may not have a perfect record for growing business with all their taxes and regulations, but this election is a choice of rotten apples -- and the overwhelming rot is the Republican far right GOP.
