Cate Blanchett And George Clooney Creamed By Tyler Perry At Box Office

Academy Awards heavyweights such as George Clooney and Cate Blanchett were no match for another of Tyler Perry's populist tales.

The Lionsgate release "Tyler Perry's Why Did I Get Married?", a marital yarn whose ensemble cast includes Janet Jackson, Malik Yoba, Jill Scott and writer-director Perry, debuted as the No. 1 weekend movie with $21.5 million, according to studio estimates Sunday.

Not a big fan of Tyler Perry, but I love Cate Blanchett. Came across this site with a truly adoring interview with Cate.

As an African American male, I'd rather watch paint dry than to see any of Tyler Perry's crap.

His Medea is totally a stereotype of African American women and the comedies are more in the vein of the Uncle Tom mentality. Id like to see him tackle a drama. But he probably won't. He lacks the charm class and talent to do anything. He is at best and worst a fast food playwright.

Tyler Perry's movies are horrible.My wife makes me go see them as soon as they come out.I would rather have hot nails driven under my toenails than see another one.

This latest offering is more than awful.

Perry's movies are worse that slow an hackneyed, they are crap (but not fun crap). Perry has a moralistic streak in his movies that may fit with the old school bible thumpers, but I find his movies lacking in any intellegence. Pery's moves are a sad reminder that Black middle class hasn't improved since E.Franklin Fraizer Black bourgeoisie, and with the advent of hip-hop culture Black culture has been reduced to pop culture built on sterotypes and fads. If Perry's movies had been made 70 years ago they would have been groundbreaking but now they had the feel of bad basement curch productions.

Do you really believe that about your own culture? I'm being sincere. I'm not trying to start an argument.

Admittedly, I like Tyler Perry's movies. No doubt they aren't THE COLOR PURPLE, but they're as good as anything else coming out. I enjoy watching a movie without being overwhelmed by sex, foul language, and violence.

If you don't like his movies, that's fine. I don't care. To each his own. I mean to say, I'm not trying to disparage you for basically a difference of taste. I'd just like to point out that Perry's movies are a much better portrayal of black life as I know than the stereotypes and fads one sees and BET. (BTW, I think you'd be surprised to learn how many black young adults and teens DON'T like BET. I know I was.)

But anyway, do you really think so little of black culture as it really is? Or, are you just commenting out black culture as it is portrayed to others.

That's an excellent question. It's one thing to dislike the guy's movies (I really think they're awful), but to suggest that the black middle class hasn't moved on is ABSURD. People should get out more...stop watching so much damn tv.
