Fishermen Catch 844-Pound Shark That Looks "Like 'Jaws'"

Six friends went to a fishing tournament looking to catch some grouper. They caught an 844-pound shark instead.

The fight by Adlee Bruner and friends to pull the 11-foot mako shark onto the boat from the Gulf of Mexico took more than an hour on Saturday. But when they made it back to land, it was a record for the decades-old Destin Fishing Rodeo.

Ya know, I'm about as liberal as they come, but jeez, I've never seen so many hypocritical and just plain stupid comments about someone catching a shark.
These guys were in a FISH RODEO, which means you get MONEY for catching the biggest fish in a given category.
The mako is indeed HUGE, but it is also edible and quite valuable. If the shark had been out of bounds because of an endangered status, the catch would have been disqualified and those guys would have been at the very least hit with a fine.
Fucking non-fishermen...grow the hell up.

having worked in wholesale seafood for 13+ years i can say you don't know shit! sharks must be bled in the water before you bring them onboard and then put in chill water.in these "fish rodeo"s, they never have enuff ice for the fish. that shark was to big for sale. how in the hell would you even cut it up? shark is also about a thrid the price of swordfish. they might take the fins and cut out the jaws,the rest will end up in trash.

21st century, and we're still killing stuff for fun or sport. Morons all proud that they caught a big fish, using only advanced technology. And the media reports that stuff as if it was great.

I remember in history class looking at a photo of a lynching in the south. In front of the broken bodies of black men hanging from a tree was a crowd of smiling white people posing for the photo. It was so hard for me to understand how this was ever possible. Our children will look at the picture of this beautiful shark, killed for no-reason but selfish pleasure, and they will think of us as monsters and barbarians. And they will be right too.

I only fish for food. Anything else is just torture for your entertainment. The little ones, I handle gently and return. The really big ones go back as well, as they're the breeders. However, if you're a calico bass in the 1-3 lb. range, you get a dinner invitation. I practice fillet and release.

The "Jaws" shark was 25 ft. long and it was a Great White. Killing animals in their natural habitats is like going to war in foreign country country and killing innocent civilians. They were just going about the business of living until someone completely out of their element decided it was necessary to invade their domain and kill them.
