New York Times:

Two of the leading Republican presidential candidates spent more than they raised this summer, according to campaign finance reports filed yesterday, in another sign of the fund-raising difficulties the party faces as it seeks to hold on to the White House.

Mitt Romney, the former Massachusetts governor, raised $9.5 million in contributions over the summer but spent more than twice that, $21.3 million.

I'm with you...Fiscal conservatives? Can't even balance their own freakin' checkbook...If they can't handle their own money, who'd be stupid enough to let them touch their's?

Could not agree more, the only question is how will they get poor children to pay for it? Perhaps if they phase out inherentance tax they can use some of the savings to pay campaign costs thereby shifting the burden to poor children? Now wait a minute didn't they already do that? I wonder what other tax on the wealthly they could eliminate? I know capital gains tax mainly effects the rich, maybe that needs to be eliminated as well.

I only expect this NOT because they're "Republicans", but because, like many Dems as well, they have a serious deficit when it comes to new ideas, hence, they have to pay up big bucks for media blitzes and literally "buy" support and name recognition.

But people like Kucinich and Ron Paul don't need to spend that kind of money to get their messages out - they have real ideas that can draw support from the grassroots.

The only "fiscal conservative" in this race (and probably the only REAL conservative) is, in fact, Ron Paul, who recently raised $5 mill, and actually has more in the bank than that.
