Jessica Seinfeld appeared on Oprah last week to promote her cookbook "Deceptively Delicious" and one week later it is a national best-seller. Today, her husband Jerry is in the interview seat to promote his upcoming animated feature "Bee Movie," in which Oprah voices a judge. With Jessica in the front row, Oprah, walnut-sized diamonds dripping from her ears, told the audience what Jessica had sent to her instead of a note thanking her for last week's appearance. Shoes.

Jessica sent Oprah 21 pairs of shoes. From the shot that goes across the screen, the majority were Christian Louboutin kicks, which retail for $800-$1200 a pair. Just a $16,000-$20,000 thank you, from one multi-millionaire couple to their billionaire friend.

To paraphrase the new book this shoe thang is "The Death of the Sole of Capitalism"....Oprah gets all orgasmic about things and shopping. She only gets mad when the Hermes store in Paris treats her like an immigrant bag-lady. Why didn't Mrs Seinfeld buy shoes that poor people could wear and donate those. It is masturbatory consumerism.

I hate that rich bitch and tune in CNN without batting an eye. Shoebiz people make to much money and are gaining power that our government will need to worry about someday soon.

Oprah and Seinfeld are both arrogant and self serving to the extreme.
People think oprah is so great for her charitable work...but all rich folk need some way to lower their taxes. Oprah just gets the added bonus of having people think her to be charitable.
Seinfeld would have been an awful show without the rest of the cast and he screwed them all and gave them very little money . Seinfeld took the money and the credit while riding the coat tails of actual talent.
What makes oprah really insufferable is that she always says her fame and fortune had nothing to do with luck and was all because of her.
Luck ALWAYS plays a role in any result.
Any person with a bit of charisma and ability to talk could do oprah's job.
There are so many people who are actually adding something to the world and the betterment of humanity that deserve more money and our appreciation than oprah .
her recent endorsement of the silly book "The Secret" has damaged many gullible people's lives.

For all her beautifully human traits and heavily promoted awareness, Oprah has a number of surprising blind spots that continually expose a denser nature.

I also found the gift excessive and, frankly, embarrassing. Of course, I'm not a billionaire where clearly the air is very, very different. If Jessica felt over-priced shoes were necessary ought not one pair suffice? I found bad judgement on both sides. If I were Oprah I would've kept my mouth shut. Period. Her revelation of the gift made me lose respect for her (I love her, but sometimes...) and I absolutely lost interest in Jessica. From now on when I see her a grotesque image of sparkly shoes will dance in my head.

Question: If she was thanking Oprah for selling her book, for $21,000 why didn't Jessica just buy a shit load of her own books? I really could say more on this topic because it annoys me so, but it's late and I'm tired.

Actually, if you watch the Seinfeld show you'll notice that Seinfeld is always making fun of the homeless whom he disparagingly calls bums. I get the feeling he really doesn't like poor people and doesn't give a damn about them.

I really like Oprah and I don't thinks she is any more self absorbed or arrogant that any male CEO or Talk Show Host. She gives back more than any other celebrity ( except maybe Brad, Angie & Bono).

She could be like most celebrities and only think about hrself but she really cares about people.... she will probably give the shoes away to someone less fortunate.

am real tired of Oprah and her platitudes...wonder what she really gives to charity and what she reinvests in herself and her companies

I don't watch Oprah because I don't watch daytime TV. But I find Oprah to be too racist for me. Everything is black and white with her and the white is always the loser. I mean come on, Does anybody think Obama would be running this soon in his career if she hadn't endorsed him. It's like she has set herself up to pick our books and now our presidents. I will vote for Obama if he is nominated, but not because she picked him. And I think she overreacted over the Frey thing. She cannot take any criticism at all.

I agree with Lisette - what an asinine gift from the ultra rich to the ultra rich - really tasteless: "Oprah, you're a Billionaire! Here are some fancy shoes as a thank you!"

Don't the Uber-rich (the ones with taste, anyway) use philanthropy to make their feelings known...?

Wait a minute, WTF do I care about this??????

Really, that's ultimately the disgusting part, she gives Oprah 24 frickin' pairs of shoes, and it's national news. And we all care. What a crock. :)

I was very uncomfortable with the whole 21 shoes gift..I mean surely there are some poor women who could use some sensible shoes for work..it was a bit offensive.

I soooo agree. We have starving people world-wide, kids with no shoes whatsoever, and Oprah receives a gift worthy of Imelda Marcos. Not Oprah's fault she does a lot for poor women. But, what does such a gift say about her friends...

There is no doubt that Oprah has worked for everything she has, and she is generous with her time, attention and money. I do get uncomfortable when she has these ultra-rich love-fests in which they seem to flaunt their wealth (check out the one with Travolta in which they discuss giving each other Bentleys or some such).

It's like she has taken leave of her senses.
