Jessica Seinfeld appeared on Oprah last week to promote her cookbook "Deceptively Delicious" and one week later it is a national best-seller. Today, her husband Jerry is in the interview seat to promote his upcoming animated feature "Bee Movie," in which Oprah voices a judge. With Jessica in the front row, Oprah, walnut-sized diamonds dripping from her ears, told the audience what Jessica had sent to her instead of a note thanking her for last week's appearance. Shoes.

Jessica sent Oprah 21 pairs of shoes. From the shot that goes across the screen, the majority were Christian Louboutin kicks, which retail for $800-$1200 a pair. Just a $16,000-$20,000 thank you, from one multi-millionaire couple to their billionaire friend.

I would really like to know - are people who have so much money truly happy? I mean really happy? Money can buy happiness, but it is an empty happiness that requiries making more money so one can continue to feel happy and requiries spending more money on tripe so one can continue to feel happy.

True happiness does not require continuously feeding the fuel for happiness.

True happiness lies in being a good person, being the best you can be (an sometimes that means not making much money!), being honest and helping others without expecting all the adulations.

I do not doubt that Oprah is a good person. I often question her honesty. While she does help others, it is not done unless adulations follow.

Whatever happened to the manners of not discussing ones money? At one time it was considered bad manners to so do and even crasser to flaunt it. Emily Post is rolling over in her grave as we speak.

Tax 'em. Tax'em. Tax the rich.

They have too much money. After all, it is a huge burden having several hundred pair of shoes.

All those decisions to make: which pair today?

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH Good One!

There SHOULD be a shoe tax. Hmmm.

Actually, come to think of it, no. Regular people deserve to have some nice shoes too.

There SHOULD be a RICH BITCH tax (M & F)!

There should be a 10% surtax on Oprah every time she has a show like that, totally about money and excess and being a big fat pig.

She could get writeoffs if she does shows about NOT being a big fat pig -- i.e., losing weight or Giving... a la Bill Clinton.

I don't begrudge Oprah or Mr. Seinfeld his wealth, but the open display of wealth is very tacky.
Oh well, I am sure they rationalize it by saying "we are good people, we are Liberals"

Oprah is your GOD ...she tells you to worship...ANYONE with a touch of Charisma and the ability to talk could do Oprah's job. She doen't even have to be funny like Leno, etc. or Insightful and educated ,like Charlie rose.
Why does Oprah and sports players make all this cash and Teachers don't?

Oprah - you are losing me. Watching her and Jessica swoon over each other was just icky. And that recipe book is a joke.
Now the shoes.
just plain old GROSS.
Keep it to yourself, or do you just enjoy flaunting you wealth..beotch.

Just my thoughts: don't blame Jessica and J,
cause the "tacky"one was Oprah displaying
those shoes.
We don't really know if J&J does not help
Africa's poor children. Do we?

Oprah is not a happy or a content person.
She is aware that people use her and the
same way she uses them.
The only "REAL" person in her life is her
father. The only unconditional LOVE she
has is from him. He is a humble and an
intelligent man who still working in his
barber shop.

I used to respect Oprah before the "brouhaha"
with James Frey (one million little pieces)

To Bozwellian: Always thought the same thing!

Ps. pardon my English is my 2nd language.

Remember how Oprah scolded and berated and ridiculed James Frey because he called his book an autobiography instead of fiction? You'd think the world had come to an end. The truth is, Frey wanted to call his book fiction but his publishing company thought it would sell more copies if he said it was his life story.
Oprah should be far angrier at George Bush. He told huge lies to start the war in Iraq which has killed 200,000 innocent women and children.
But if Bush was on her show now, she'd be fawning all over him...just like she did when he was a guest in 2000.

I used to love watching Oprah, although I feel as though she has gotten obnoxious and this just proves it. Personally, I now prefer to watch Ellen Degeneres' show. She's much more real and genuine, despite being a celebrity herself. Plus, she always makes me laugh. I love her kooky humor.

Cause Oprah didn't have enough shoes, right?

What is there to get so heated about? I'd tell everyone I knew too if someone gave me 21 pairs of Louboutins as a thank you....kinda original I guess. In terms of Oprah being this two-faced, consumerism-pushing machine who also tries to stress the importance of humanitarian efforts - well, she does more than I do in terms of giving so I'm not one going to try to be one to judge whether she does more good in one area than another.

It's not about the good that she does - which is wonderful and heartfelt.
It is the gross display - so now every housewife in america is going to want an $800 pair of shoes they can't afford - will go deeper into debt to have the coveted red sole.
Keep it to yourself OpRaH -

itheartsmartpeople,

Now REALLY,

if someone gave you 21 pairs of shoes, would you:

(1) dress up all fancy and have people help you carry the shoes down the street in a big parade, while talking through a bullhorn about how great JESSICA SEINFELD (hahahahahahahah) is?

(2) invite local news teams over to your house/trailer to talk for an HOUR about the damn shoes, wihle trying each of them on?

I would THINK you would have more class.
only trailer trash people would do that.

Ooops, or Oprah.

She is a consumer and promotes consumerism. Look at her magazine. Shoppng has been become the favourite pasttime of most people. It is pervasive.

Since when does the gifts she receives as a thank you determine what kind of person she is? When I send a thank you, I send something that I believe would make someone happy. Believe me, Oprah can buy her own shoes, I'm sure. Personally, I think it is an odd gift from the Seinfeld's, but it is not a reflection on Oprah.

This is what we get from a Bush Administration who told us all to "go shopping" after 9/11.

Oprah and the Seinfelds are probably wondering if there are enough good shopping malls IN HELL.

Oprah gives alot of money away, but she is too orgasmic about shopping and consumption. She had custom-made china service for her Girl's school in Africa. I mean, c'mon, will their own china pattern really help those girls? Remember after Katrina she gifted volunteers with Burberry coats and some blingy watches. What about the victims of the hurricance-did they get the same gift bags as her audience? She has earned her Billion$, but I don't want to see her spend it or get off doing it.

She does promote a lot of good things too. She's kind of in a tough spot. She makes her money from advertising. It wouldn't make advertisers happy if she suggested consuming less.

Maybe she could use her sway to promote better corporate habits, like using less packaging, using more local suppliers, etc.
