Jessica Seinfeld appeared on Oprah last week to promote her cookbook "Deceptively Delicious" and one week later it is a national best-seller. Today, her husband Jerry is in the interview seat to promote his upcoming animated feature "Bee Movie," in which Oprah voices a judge. With Jessica in the front row, Oprah, walnut-sized diamonds dripping from her ears, told the audience what Jessica had sent to her instead of a note thanking her for last week's appearance. Shoes.

Jessica sent Oprah 21 pairs of shoes. From the shot that goes across the screen, the majority were Christian Louboutin kicks, which retail for $800-$1200 a pair. Just a $16,000-$20,000 thank you, from one multi-millionaire couple to their billionaire friend.

Oprah is the consummate hypocrite and narcissist. She decries our "materialistic" culture and obsession with celebrity; yet her show is all about "her favorite things" (which are usually too expensive for her average viewer) or interviews with her celebrity friends like Halle Berry and John Travolta. I have no idea why anyone even takes her seriously anymore. She has no credibility.

The problem is not Oprah--- its Americans on celebrity crack. Millions of women have rendered themseles f'cking useless unless Oprah and/or some other tv diva is there to tell them how to think, what to read, how to loose weight, what to wear.....get off that couch, make your OWN life and OWN it! NEVER watched her show, never bought her mag and don't give a shit who her friends are or who she endorses for President. Save yourself--take your life back from Oprah!!!

whats hilarious is sickening is that many times a year D'oh!pra will do a show with someone selling a book about the evils of materialism and condescendingly ask one of the guests "how do you think that THINGS will make you happy?" Then the next day she'll do a show about Her favorite THINGS that is her highest rated show, with an audience full of orgasmic housewives squealing like piglets as they receive the wondrous "must-have" designer cheesecake and $1000 purses, etc. Oprah is a genius of letting people have it both ways, promoting that you should rely on "The Secret" not unions to rise above the poverty level, she is at the heart of what is disconnected irrational and stupid about America.

Oprah's fans want this type of information shared with them, just like regular girlfriends would.

Re: Oprah and the shoe blitz ( and whether its appropriate for HuffPo)
I think that this absolutely has interest to us in the macro sense. Oprah and the celebrity machine enjoy a certain power and currency which influences and massages society. ( as repugnant as that may be ) We again are faced with a hideous aspect of *who* we have become---as either celeb fawn or the gagged by association - and yesterdays show was an icon to a very real territory of our cultural identity. The oprah mancine in relationship to Barack Obama concerns me. I would like to be able to see him *clearly* without the taint of Oprah and her money and network and her belief that she is a midwife to *destiny*. ( her narcissism has become flagrant) I think that obama would be wise to distance himself from Oprah Winfrey. The prevailing view here regarding Oprah is one which I believe reflects many, many people ( and women, especially ) and we were open to Oprah and appreciated her unique self until we saw that the emporess has no clothes. ( see: the authenticity which we gave her some benefit of the doubt as to having ) She is not an icon of goodness, truth, beauty and strength. Regardless of how successfully she sells it.
Oprah *power* is not insignficant. Politically, socially, etc. She has a bully pupit and uses it effectively. This to me makes her and analysis of what she illustrates periodically quite relevant.

I agree that this story isn't really HuffPost-worthy. Nonetheless, the comments cry out for response: We Americans are an odd populace. We eschew all things remotely socialist yet deride the rich while we cling to our capitalist ideals. Thus, when some mega-rich person spends $20K on shoes we scream about how many African children that money could have fed, etc. The criticism is inconsistent with our politics, our capitalism, and our private lives. We cannot "hate" the rich for their folly and simultaneously support the system and ideals that got them where they are. We are a "me first" money-hungry ad-driven public that supports and encourages individuals to get rich and pay no attention to those around them. That may sound harsh but it is the unfortunate reality in our present-day America.

I don't think anyone's hating on Oprah's abilities talent drive and whatever else it took to get her where she is.
It's the grotesque manner of displaying that.
PLUS, what set Oprah apart in her early stages of career was her "In Touch" attitude with "The People"

The fact that she thinks all of America wants to see the $20,000 worth of shoes that some other (recent) kajillionaire gifted her with proves that Oprah has lost touch with her audience.

...Never DID 'get" the JS show..DID think it was much about NOTHING and was never all that amused. Thought and think too many of the "entertainers" vastly overpaid and equally over rated as well !!! Ever notice these days more than ever, the constant SHORTENING of the "epidsodes"..think they may have perhaps 25min of storylines in a one hour show, perhaps 13 mins in a 30min show..lots of "product" placement and incessant UPCOMING announcements and promo's about future whateverings and recently too, the screen gets an AD in the lower right advertising even more...UGH, NOT the greatest entertainment for sure, and perhaps just envious that so many get so RICH off of such NOTHINGNESSES but we, the ordinaries are stuck with it past off as entertainmentings when NOT REALLY!!!

Have enjoyed O off and on thru the years, and admire her efforts in the many myriad things she does help to promote in the way of good works and etc. Considered it worthwhile , her Academy, but wondered truly why not HERE in her homeland was such an effort not undertaken..there is a "need" here as well for such encouragement/assist to those underprivilidged (think there IS a similar sort in Pa., run by the Hershey foundation, we could indeed use more as there are MANY who do NOT have such access but have potential that will go UNenabled due to such lack !!!)
