Idaho Senator Larry Craig and his wife sat down with "Today host Matt Lauer to break their silence and talk about his guilty plea in a sex sting at an airport bathroom. Craig answered a question about why he didn't tell his wife about the arrest until the press was about to break the story months later. We suspect that his reluctance to tell his wife stemmed less from his "embarrassment" and more from his desire to keep the arrest as quiet as possible. The "I am not gay" Larry Craig is a pathological liar. When he said he "intended to resign" from the Senate at the end of September, that was just another lie. He carefully parsed his words and really never "intended" to do so. It was like when he claimed he never "intended" to have sex in that bathroom stall. Likewise, he didn't "know" that toe-tapping was code for "I'm available". Nor was he "aware" that that particular airport toilet was notorious for anonymous sexual encounters.

Notwithstanding a "wide stance" and "picking up toilet paper off the floor", his deep denial and sexual repression has caused him to believe he truly is heterosexual--but with a "compulsion" he will never acknowledge to himself or anyone else. He needs to see a psychiatrist before he does himself or others more harm--including his constituents and the rest of America.

The airport was a real one and not one out of a Redford-Newman movie. The toilet facilities were real. And Lavatory Larry and his supporters have not been able to point to any action taken by the police officer to entrap him.

From all that has been reported, the officer did nothing more that sit in a stall behind a closed door and resist Craig's unwanted advances.

When the "sting" methaphor is adopted without question, it falsely suggests that some devious means were used and that Larry Craig is a victim.

He was not the victim of a sting. His actions showed that he was an aggressive pervert.

Obviously you are not gay. The cop was really, really good looking. It was like putting a big juicy bug in front of a trout, and he went for it. Remember, Larry Craig's first action in the mens' room was to peer through the gap in the stall door of the seated police officer for a full two minutes. If anyone peered into a stall that I was sitting in, I'd want them arrested. After looking at the officer for two minutes through the gap, he then went into the next stall, placed his bag so no one outside his stall could see his feet, etc., and began his incursions into the next stall, touching his foot to the foot of the officer, and signalling under the door with his hand.

This is pretty invasive behaviour. I've never had nor wanted a public bathroom tryst, but if someone would stare at me through the gap in my stall door for two minutes, I'd wish I was a cop with powers of arrest. At the very least, I'd feel frightened.

And this is the whole point. Members of the 'Gay-Sex-i­n-Public-R­estrooms' crowd know the 'come-on' signals and know how to navigate this scene, and this group essentially treats certain PUBLIC restrooms as their own private sex clubs. They are not just flirting in the restrooms, the whole sordid affair begins and ends in the restroom.

I am not against gay sex, and people of any sexual orientation are free to try out their flirtation skills anywhere as far as I am concerned, but keep the groping and fornication in private venues. The stalls in public washrooms are bought and paid for by the public to be used for hygenic reasons, and should not be used for public lewdness.

He announced he's going to appeal the judges ruling that he cannot reverse his guilty plea. He is married with children and also has sexual relationships with men, so he is either gay or bi-sexual. I agree Motherfunner, I don't think he is gay in the "normal ' sense. There are lots of well adjusted gay people that arent in a double life that have to lie all the time like him. This case underscores the ethical banckruptcy in the both parties. If Craig is indeed innocent, he WAS thrown under the bus by his party and by ignoring the Congressional ethics procedures. If he is guilty, he is yet another morality bigot caught in his own hypocracy. It is time to clean house in BOTH parties and vote incumbents out, regardless of party.

Your statement is nonsensical - Craig IS guilty, he pleaded that way to a judge, there's no IF about it. Yes, he IS a bigot, and a hipocrite. Yes he was thrown under the bus by his own bigotted homophobic party. So how does that prove ethical bankruptcy against Democrats or justify your conclusion that all incumbents should be voted out ? NOW - if former Senate Majority Leader Frist (R) or former Senate Majority Whip McConnell (R) KNEW that Senator Craig was a serial predator and did nothing but conceal that, then you'd have grounds for an investigation. Frist is gone now, thank god. Hopefully McConnell soon will be too. Not to mention Craig - who doesn't seem to be going anywhere.
