AP :

Russian leader Vladimir Putin met his Iranian counterpart Tuesday and implicitly warned the U.S. not to use a former Soviet republic to stage an attack on Iran. He also said nations shouldn't pursue oil pipeline projects in the area if they weren't backed by regional powers.

At a summit of the five nations that border the inland Caspian Sea, Putin said none of the nations' territory should be used by any outside countries for use of military force against any nation in the region. It was a clear reference to long-standing rumors that the U.S. was planning to use Azerbaijan, a former Soviet republic, as a staging ground for any possible military action against Iran

Bush warns of World War III if Iran goes nuclear
US President George W. Bush said Wednesday that he had warned world leaders they must prevent Iran from getting nuclear weapons "if you're interested in avoiding World War III."
Posted Oct 17, 2007 09:04 AM PST
Category: IRAN

Translation: I will start WW3 if Iran does not surrender its right to build nuclear power stations as set forth in the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, which both Iran and the US signed. I will do so becauise Israel, who did NOT sign the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, and is building nuclear weapons, done told me too!

Back in 2000 when Putin campaigned for the Russian presidential elections, some historians and pundits raised concern that his KGB background and his political outlook will regress Russia. They were right. Totalitarianism, oppression, secret police agencies, spies, snitches, KGB, etc. are the some of the tiger stripes of Russia's political nature. Tigers are not known for changing their stripes. Putin brought back some aspects of those paradigms and rolled back some progress made by democracy.

The optimism for a democratic Russia was brighter when Gorbachev and Yeltsin were in power. The problem was Russia's conversion to capitalism made a relatively few very rich and kept most others very poor. Food lines were not uncommon before Putin came to power. After centuries of monarchies, totalitarianism and socialism, most Russian people became used to such governments but yearned for prosperity.

Former Soviet member countries have and continue to transition, some better than others and most don't want to regress to the days when their lives were run by Moscow in the Soviet Union. The democratization of the former Soviet Union member countries continues.

What happens in Russia remains to be seen but Putin and others are trying to reclaim some of the former power by strengthening Russia's dominance as the regional power. An alliance with Russia and Iran will strengthen this dominance because both countries have lots of what everyone wants, oil and gas.

Many of you are probably familiar with the term "Chekism", but those who aren't should become familiar with the word.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chekism

The people running Russia now are Chekists. They are not good guys. They are responsible for some of the worst human rights abuses of the Soviet era. I know it's fun to see foreign leaders talk smack to Bush, but the Checkists are no friends to the American progressive movement or anything that it stands for.

DocSarvis:

I am one who was not familiar with that term...
But I am too aware of its definition, I've always thought of that as a part of the New World Order.
Thank you for the link...

Part of the NWO and the Old order as well.

For two centuries, Russia and the West have been engaged in what the Brits called "The Great Game" and the Russians called "The Tournament of Shadows." The game began in Central Asia and went global in the 20th Century. America replaced Britain as Russia's primary adversary by the time the Cold War started. From the First Afghan War, through the Crimean War, to WWI, the creation of the modern Middle East, WWII, and the Cold War, the Great Game is the context in which to understand these events.

Iran may have averted a stryke by the U.S., as simple as this meeting may sound Iran has "one uped" the Bush administration with a curve ball.

Did Putin's meeting with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad derail Bush's plans to attack Iran? ---------------> http://www.youpolls.com/details.asp?pid=728

Certainly, the U.S. Navy is taking Putin's warning very seriously. And judging from the incoherent Comments on this topic, Americans must get off medications and start paying attention.

Y'all.

The Bush Administration has hurt American interest all over the world. He's alienated every region with his zero tolerance diplomacy. While the rest of the world is taking advantage of his screw up. He's asleep on the job and his advisors are clueless.

Should the U.S. heed to Putin's warning regarding Iran?

LindaSmart/MaryMullins/PissedOnDutchEurotrash:

Did you see the news today?
**

Moroccan-Dutch youths rioted in Amsterdam overnight Tuesday.

A group of dozens of youths in the Slotervaart neighbourhood in western Amsterdam set cars on fire, damaged several other cars and threw stones through the windows of a police station.

The riots followed the death of 22-year old Dutch-born Bilal Bajaka, of Moroccan descent.

On Sunday, Bajaka entered the police station of Slotervaart, stabbing two police officers with a knife. Although having sustained serious injuries, one of the officers, a policewoman, shot and killed her alleged attacker on the spot. The two police officers were later brought to the hospital where their condition was described as "serious but stable."

The police and Amsterdam municipality officials announced at a press conference Monday that a national investigation had been launched into the incident. The police also added that Bajaka had a criminal record.

From the age of 13 up to his death on Sunday, the police said, Bajaka had been involved in several major criminal incidents, including armed robberies and a series of violent incidents. He was allegedly part of a criminal gang.

In addition, police said he was personally acquainted with Mohammed Bouyeri, the convicted killer of the late film director Theo van Gogh, as well as with other Moroccan-Dutch terrorist suspects.

Moroccan-Dutch residents of Slotervaart complained to reporters they were "sick and tired" of continuous "negative news reports" about fellow Moroccan-Dutch, adding they felt increasingly stigmatized. [And what better way to counter those negative news reports than to riot and burn stuff? " ed.]

Several television reporters who came to report on the fatal incident at the police station were threatened by Moroccan-Dutch youths.

Ah, the good ol' days of the cold war. It seems like just the other day when the Soviet Union and the USA had a balance of terror, and neither could go around the world attacking nations that the other had warned them not to, for fear of a nuclear war.

Now all we have to worry about is relious fundamentalism, opposition to our occupation of Iraq, and the end of our democracy because of attacks from the far right of the political spectrum.

President Putin sums it up quite nicely there.

Iran is obviously not a threat to the United States, but if the Bush regime is foolish enough to attack Iran, that move may be just enough to guarantee a rapid contraction of our economy, and may well be enough to snap our already badly strained military resources.

Mr. Putin is a judo black-belt, and it is clear that he can easily deliver a boot to the head of Bush (the lesser), anytime he chooses- in any arena.

We have a universal joke posing as our top leader.

Yep, while Putin was in the KGB Dumbya was snorting coke at some keg party while AWOL and then crossing swords with Karl Rove in Texas. Putin is an evil bastard as is Dumbya, Dumbya is much scarier because he is downright stupid.

Putin can also speak his native language, Dumbya can barely drool let alone speak English.

Watch China become innovative and the use of alternative fuels become a primary objective within twenty years.

The US will wallow in Middle Eastern sands looking for more oil while China will lead the way in ethanol usage. Just out of pure necessity.

The price of gas cannot be sustained in China without damaging the economy. Wind power is also very big on the mainland.

Solar energy using Israeli technology is going to hit the roof in 2020 in North and East China.

China will lend America all the money it wants to pursue WAR, and be laughing all the way to the bank while developing alternative energies.

Lindasmartass!

Since you spew so much obvious hatred for all Americans, you need a bitch slapping and its unfortunate no one here will get the chance.

Lindasmartass, ........."you Americans", the two words you seem to spew in just about every post is beyond pathetic.

An analogy would be to have called any German during WW2 a Nazi. Only a moron would think in this ignorant manner.
To paint all Americans or all humans with the same brush is showing absolutely no idea what humanity is all about. Americans are a very divided bunch, maybe more than ever since the Civil War, "you Americans" just doesn't fit any reasonable argument when you're talking about Americans. Think before you spew your hatred.

From the article:
"Putin strongly warned outside powers against use of force in the region."

The above relates to the news item below:

New Cold War: Simultaneously, Russia and America Conduct Major War Games
by Michel Chossudovsky
October 16, 2007

There has been a virtual media blackout on the conduct of major military exercises by both Russia and the US.

Reminiscent of the Cold War, Russia and America are conducting major war games simultaneously.

The Russian Air Force will be conducting major military exercises over a large part of its territory from the 16th to the 30th of October.

These Russian exercises coincide chronologically with the conduct of major US sponsored war games under Vigilant Shield 08, which are slated to take place from the 15th to the 20th of October.

If we keep attacking oil producing nations and countries that Israel doesn't like (just about everybody), there will be a lot more countries than Russia, China, Indonesia, Venezuela, Pakistan, Iran, Syria, and North Korea lining up against us. I wonder if this is how ordinary German citizens felt when their governmet ran amok invading and bombing everyone at the start of WWII. Actually, I find it encouraging that Russia and possibly China will join forces to counter my own country's imperialistic adventures - if our own congress refuses to fulfill its responsibility to check the executive branch's illegal activities, then at least Russia and China might offer a solution. This truly is pathetic - cheering on a country that used to be considered our foe of foes. Sadly, our newest, most dangerous foes sit in the halls of congress and in the oval office.
