Online video leader YouTube has rolled out long-awaited technology to automatically remove copyrighted clips, hoping to placate movie and television studios fed up with the Web site's persistent piracy problems.

The filtering tools are designed so the owners of copyrighted video can block their material from appearing on YouTube, which has become a pop culture phenomenon in its 2-year existence. The tools also give the owners of copyrighted video the option to sell ads around their material if they want the clips to remain available on YouTube.

To find and remove copyrighted music, YouTube already uses separate filtering tools developed by Los Gatos-based Audible Magic Corp.

Corporate monopoly greed. The piece reads like something written by a corporate hack. Does anyone really think watching a 5 minute clip (Max 10) of a TV show or music video is going hurt that TV show ratings or music sales? No mention of the fair use doctrine. No mention of reasonable enforcement. Why don't we vigorously enforce laws against corporations that hire illegal aliens? They are responsible for the 20 million illegals now in the country.

Sure... "news" is now "entertainment"... the 4th estate is basically lost their way, along with the rest of the country

Particularly for anything someone snagged off a raw satellite feed unedited... I bet they'd be all over that...

We don't want an informed public... and that "right to know".... that was so 1940's

Hey, did ya hear Brittany got arrested again?
