Director Rodriguez Under Fire For Choice Of Fiancee As "Barbarella"

Observer:

Sin City director Robert Rodriguez is letting his heart get in the way of his better judgment with his forthcoming big-budget remake of Barbarella, a source with knowledge of the production told the Transom.

Universal Studios has backed out of backing the movie, whose budget the source pegged at nearly $100 million, because Mr. Rodriguez has insisted on casting his new fiancé, Rose McGowan, in the lead role, famously played by Jane Fonda in the 1968 original directed by Ms. Fonda's then-husband, Roger Vadim.

Only way Woody Allen could get sex-I will not use the word whore, but many women are addicted to money and power. A few men cannot get it unless that had it. There is a lesson there some where

I just have one question. Who the hells gonna play Pygar?

That picture of Rose McGowan. What a stupid pose. Does she thinks she's funny? Sexy? Witty? Then you click on the story and there's another pic with another stupid pose.
I wouldn't touch a woman that Marilyn Manson did. There's not enough Clorox in the world that could clean that up.

I can't believe anyone would bother with a remake of Barbarella. Who cares?

LOL!! This is so silly. I just happened to watch the original last week and even though it is kind of campy fun, the writing of "Barbarella" is horrible. There is no doubt Jane Fonda turned into a great actress but you sure can't tell it watching that movie. Rose McGowan is more than talented and sexy enough to deliver those type of lines. Does she portray big blue-eyed blonde haired innocence? Well she could handle it. She is capable. Nicole Kidman 20 years ago would have worked, Jessica Alba could work but let her have her own hair color and eyes this time. Halle Berry? Let's find some starlet in her 20's not someone in her 40's trying to prove she's still sexy. It's a role for a young actress. As fun as it is to watch the original, all in all it is a very silly and inconsequential film so please don't act like it took lots of talent. Give Rose a chance.

Rose is a great choice to be Barbarella, since she's enough of an exhibitionist to work the nudity.

Though if our choices are limited to current and ex girlfriends of Marilyn Manson, I'd suggest Evan Rachel Wood would be both sexier AND able to act.

Rodriguez wants to cast the woman who broke up his marriage in his next bomb?

I am shocked,SHOCKED I say.

Has any of these people seen Barbarella? Can't carry the lead? WTF! I could carry the lead in Barbarella. It's not Jayne Eyre for crissake...let Rose have a shot. I mean, she banged Marilyn Manson.

The Studios *prefer* Nicole Kidman as Barbarella? Jeez Louise, don't they realise Kidman has taken over the Catherine Hepburn crown of "box-office poison" lately? Every movie she touches bombs! At least you get the impression that McGowan girl might have fun in the role.

I can't see any of the "top" actresses playing the role anyway, so let her have it and wish them luck.
