Ellen DeGeneres and the fight for Iggy, a dog she got from a shelter in September, and then gave to her hairdresser's family, continues on, at least on TV. After sobbing at the beginning of her show yesterday, Ellen again began the hour talking about the puppy.

The rescue shelter where Iggy came from took the dog back when they found out Ellen had given it away, claiming she had signed a document forbidding her to do so. After joking a little about how emotional she had been on Tuesday's show, Ellen sat down and again insisted the dog be returned to her hairdresser's family.

Meanwhile, the shelter insists the dog will not be returned to family and they will not be bullied by Ellen speaking out.

According to reports which surfaced after Ellen taped today's show, Iggy has already been placed in another home, which has left DeGeneres "shocked."

Do you think the dog should be returned?

Bet the name recorded on the chip would have been changed if she had met the terms of the adoption. This whole thing came to light when they did their follow up and, it's clear from De Generis' own response, she didn't live up to the terms of the agreement.

Why would they record her as the owner when she had violated the terms of the provisional period?

Tell you what I've learned from this whole episode: never trust Ellen DeGeneris. She has very poor judgment, makes immature & inappropriate decisions, abandons responsibilities, practices emotional extortion and abuses the airways.

So I see the Agency did the right thing by finding this dog a proper home unlike Ellen who gave it away when she determined it did not work for her.

Now Ellen can apologize, donate some money to Moms and Mutts for smearing their name and get on with her life.

al,
"DeGeneres went on to suggest that Mutts & Moms enforces its rules arbitrarily. One such rule, she said, is that it does not allow families with children under 14 to adopt – a rule she said the agency has not always followed in the past."

This came form the last link in the story. "Shocked"

Yes she did. Ellen will be held responsible for any loss or damage that occurs to Moms and Mutts due to her using her TV show as her own personal soapbox.

This Agency is getting death threats.

Think about this a moment!

People are sending death threats to a human being over the adoption of a dog.

Really!!!

Rescue shelters don't sell.Actual animal rights activists and shelters should be standing up for them. Certain animals are not placed with children for a reason. Should the child of the hairdresser been mauled then the shelter would have been sued.

I like Ellen, but these animal rescue shelters aren't interested in the dog owners, they are interested in the welfare of the dog. And if a dog is placed in a home they deem suitable, why shouldn't they be concerned when the dog ends up somewhere else.
Why doesn't the family apply to the rescue shelter to get the dog back?
I did lose a little respect for Ellen. Not for crying on the air or using her show to hammer an agency doing its job, but for picking cats over a dog.

Really? They cared so much for the welfare of this dog that they threatened a lawsuit, they threatened to bring the police in on it (which they did), AND threatened to bring the media in on it (which totally backfired on them) unless they got the dog back? What a bunch of crap. If this was some no-name off the street, I guarantee you they wouldn't have "cared" so much.

not only did she bring the police into it, but she hung out and held onto the dog for an hour or so before the cops arrived.

i'm curious as to why the tracking chip wasn't updated at the time of adoption.

there are a lot of folks who work with animals who, not only aren't interested in the pet owners, but are downright hostile towards people in general. i remember the outright unkindness i experienced from the SPCA folks when i spent a few afternoons at their shelter in san francisco trying to find my lost cat. it was pretty disturbing how unsympathetic they were.

i think some people go to work with animal organizations mainly because they can't get along with other people.

The hairdresser has 11 and 12 year old daughters- Mutts and Moms has a rule (an insane rule) that they will not adopt if there are children under 14 in the house.

This was handled wrong by all parties.
Ellen should have known the small print, known what the policies were. They're not abitrary; they're in place for a reason. For every 10 Ellens, there's one asshole who won't do what's in the best interest of the dog.
If the shelter were smart, they'd realize that this was not a case of abandonment; this was someone who did everything right: vets visits, neutering, training... and nothing would help the situation that the dog wasn't getting along with the cats already in the home (whether that should have been addressed first is another debate entirely.) Ellen found the dog a suitable, loving home. Was honest with the shelter when they followed up... and they went in and scooped up the dog. Too much power & control & too many rules trumping common sense. The guidelines seem to have no other intent than to ensure the welfare, health & safety of the dogs. But to adhere to them so rigidly is to lose sight of what your goal was. The shelter needs the ability to make judgements on a case by case basis.
Taking it to her show gave Ellen a bully pulpit the shelter doesn't have but I don't doubt for a second her sincerity.
They should have ALL gone on the air & told the story.
Ellen already admitted her wrongdoing.
The shelter should have acknowledged the rules were broken, explained that rules aren't there for them to be the bad guys but to ensure the welfare of the animals and explain that although they are bending their policy, all parties realize what an incredible platform to educate the TV audience about adopting animals rather than buying purebreds; about how many animals are euthanized and how you can rescue a dog or cat from that fate; how you can get involved with a rescue/shelter organization in your area...

But they all squandered what could have been a win-win situation for everyone.

I really think Ellen is making a huge mistake by playing this out in public and using her show to make the animal rescue worker's life hell. Ellen needs to announce on her show that her fans should not be contacting this woman personally. She is even receiving death threats.

She played it out in public because Moms & Mutts forced that hand. They threatened to bring it to the media. She just cut them off at the pass, as it were.

I hadn't read anywhere that the Rescue Group initiated the media involvment in this case. If that is the case, then they should have known better.
I just feel that Ellen is making a mistake by playing this out in such an emotionally charged fashion on her Nationally syndicated program. It kind of surprises me that she is not thinking clearly on this matter.
I'm sure she exhausted every avenue of attempting to deal with the Center privately, but this is out of hand. I highly doubt that the woman who retrieved the puppy is an evil bitch. I'm sure she was just doing her job to the best of her ability and she probably cares very deeply for animals.
It just seems a shame all the way around

For heaven's sake, if Ellen thinks this is insane then maybe she should stop bawling about it on TV. Pet shelters have rules, you need to follow them. The shelter acted responsibly, Ellen did not. She needs to shut up and stop whining about it. Now she's got people calling in death threats to the poor shelter, which is only following its rules. Grow up, Ellen and act like an adult!

Degeneris used this dog and family and shelter in the most self absorbed disgusting way. Her histrionics don't get one ounce of sympathy from me. She melted down because the agency played hardball and threatened to expose her to the media - and that's a selfish reason. But she couldn't portray that on her show, so here comes the tears! The bottom line is she had no right to make up rules for the care of this dog according to her own personal situation. What's more, the family only had the dog for a matter of days so all the b.s. about people hurting so badly because they bonded is so much crap! What lies. What phony, selfish tears. I thought little of her before even less now. If the family wants a dog that bad there are more in the shelter that need a loving home.

I know Ellen is a good egg but I will betcha that celebrity dog-ditching (Paris, Madonna, etc.) is more common than we'd like to believe. Where is Tinkerbell the Chihuahua, Paris?

What the hell kind of policies does this organization have anyway? Must be a celebrity shelter. People should start going to the animal shelters instead of some kind of hoity-toity place like this. They probably don't even take in animals over 3 years old or animals that are overweight or have fleas. They probably need a pedigree to get in. How idiotic. Give the dog back to those kids. I can see donations drying up.

I've volunteered at a shelter that has very strict adoption policies. They've got cats that are in their twenties! In 2004, we adopted a pastel tortie who was brought in as an 18 month old cat, along with her litter. In 1995... She spent 9 out of her 10 1/2 years of life in that shelter. She's since spent three lovely years with us, along with our 15 year old Siamese, and the 6 year old Siamese we adopted a year after her.

Some shelters, get most of their funding from private donations, and these shelters are often funded by people who are very concerned with animal welfare. You might be surprised, their donations might actually go up after this.

That pet shelter sounds worse than the guy Madonna dealt with who couldn't decide if his son was up for adoption or was still his.
