Gemstar-TV Guide International Inc., the publisher of TV Guide magazine, said Wednesday its StarSight Telecast Inc. unit has filed a patent lawsuit against Toshiba Corp. in a Tokyo court.

The lawsuit claims Toshiba infringes on a Japanese patent StarSight holds, related to providing interactive program guides and controlling recordings from the guides.

A U.S. representative for Toshiba could not immediately be reached for comment.
