According to a recent analysis from Scarborough Research, the West Coast is a stronghold for organics consumers. Out of the 79 local markets measured, 23 were identified as organics markets (those markets that have an above-average percentage of organics consumers). Of these 23 organics markets, more than half are in the Western census region, more than one-quarter are in the Southern census region, three cities are in the Northeast, and one is in the Midwest

The study finds that 35 percent of San Francisco adults used organic foods during the past month, making it the top U.S. city for organics users (adults who used any organic food product in their household during the past month). In the total US.,17 percent of all adults are organics users.

Organic is a marketing scam. If you feel better eating organic it's all mental, it certainly isn't any better, and is usually worse.

The biggest offense is applying the organic label to a product. Grapes can be grown "organically" but wine isn't organic. Same with beer. The worst beer I've had in Portland was at a so-called organic brewpub, just really bad beer. But the politically correct sheeple keep abortions like it in business.

If you eat organic,

Santa Cruz County residents located south of San Francisco are fighting the proposed aerial spraying of the SYNTHETIC pesticide CheckMate LBAM-F. The pesticide acts like a pheromone to confuse male Light Brown Apple Moths to the point that they cannot find a female moth to reproduce with. CheckMate LBAM-F was registered by the EPA in 1997 as a toxic III substance. The agency says it’s generally safe when diluted as prescribed by the manufacturer, Suterra LLC. In greater concentrations testing on lab animals caused irritation to the skin and eyes and is harmful when swallowed. These same symptoms were experienced by Monterey County residents who sought medical treatment after they were aerial sprayed in September. A spokesman for the State Dept. of Food and Agriculture suggested if anyone wants to increase their margin of safety they can leave the area. Spraying is to take place in residential areas along the coast.

There are alternative methods to aerial spraying which would keep this stuff off produce, out of water and off people. The couple who own Suterra LLC reportedly donated approx. $144,000. to Arnold’s re-election campaign, this contract is worth $15 million dollars. The current California Food and Agriculture Secretary, A.G. Kawamura, who is in charge of the project was appointed to the position and has donated $21,200. to Arnold. Growers in Santa Cruz and Monterey counties are major producers of certified organic commodities.

And the point of this is what? Move to SF? If you give a rat's hooey about your health and the health of your land, air and water; and if you really want to practice democracy there is no surer way than to support you local organic farmer.

As the economic collapse of the past 7 years continues, you will be glad that you did because Big Agra will suddenly find itself unable to deliver food,

Agreed. Too bad more of the country isn't following San Francisco's lead. Conventional farming practices are destroying our health, environment, small farming operations, and perpetuating our dependence on OIL.

Support local organic farmers. Better yet, learn how to grow your own food in a small garden.

Not only that - I switched to an all organic diet two months ago - buying local produce and organic meats from Trader Joes and growing herbs in my loft windowsill. I can't begin to tell you how much better I feel, more energy, leaner, able to focus better, etc - all of this started happening after only two weeks! Not only is it good for the planet, the country and the local economy, it truly is a boon to the individuals health and lifestyle -no kidding.
