British MPs To Probe Claims Of CIA Island Prison In Indian Ocean

I found this op-ed thru google.

Apparently this little island has a history of human rights violations by the US and UK going back to the '60s. Just when I thought I knew it all-not.

My hope is that they close all the secret prisons. Release all the prisoners. Turn off all wiretaps. Shut down all spy satellites. Cut funding to defense and especially to intelligence agencies.

Then all we have to do is wait. The crying sounds will begin as a low wail, as it rises in pitch and the gnashing of teeth becomes too often a common sound they will beg us to go back to work.

It is not "sovereign British territory". Britain occupies a number of territories, including Falklands. Britain must stop occupation and terminate its colonial mentality to dictate other countries british own rules.

If the truth were known there are probably hundreds if not thousands of "black sites" in the world. Maybe even some here in the U.S.

Last semester i had to do a research project on Mauritius. In doing so, I stumbled across information on Diego Garcia. among other things .."where in the world is Diego Garcia ?"and site for a group of U.S. ex servicemen who had who had served on Diego Garcia.
As I crawled through the internet it was very easy to find definitive information that Diego Garcia was being used for renditions by the United States. I'm not even very computer literate, but learned within one day what Diego Garcia was being used for. It is extremely naive to think that the British government doesn't know what is gong on there

Wonder if kids now growing up in Russia associate the U.S. with repression, torture and gulags... like we used to associate the U.S.S.R. in the '60s?

If the Brits want to actually start looking into this, they need to start with Tony Blair. He knew about this. He kissed Bush's dirty ass during his time as PM. This administration is miored in shit.

What better place to conduct torture than an island which you completely control?

I can only hope that the British government (No strangers to torture, themselves) end the lease and kick the US out!

Great Experiment needs help from the 'motherland' to try to rid it of contamination. Well at least they may be helping US shed a disinfecting light on OUR diseased gov't. In fact I hope it doesn't stop with this topic for investigations, nor just the English 'revisiting' OUR Forgieng policies. Then maybe WE can get our Domestic policies back in order. Frankly I'm so pissed I'd would not hestitate to attend public hangings for some of our 'leaders'. I'm as admiring China's decisiveness when 'handling' incompetency/ corruption in their gov't. this administration has placed allmankind in danger- not just US. Whether by nuclear weapons or environmental rape- they have betrayed our very species and all that we are the sole stewards. If not just for the political crimes - but for the crimes against humanity they should be prosecuted. They are reckless & dangerous (and armed to the nines with our weapons, money, resources,influence and blood). They have convinced an long time Atheist that evil lives in the hearts of some.
The Experiment not only failed it blew up the lab.
They've got me praying to anything or anyone for help. They are performing a self fulfilling prophecy and taking the rest of us with them.

Are you telling me you are comparing AMERICA the land of the free , and human rights and democracy to dictatorships in ME . Im shocked . those evil dictatorships (who are allies and friends to America ) do torture but then that what happens in dicatorships .
America believes and works hard for human rights it is trying to export to us , america believes in Human rights (so we were allowed to believe ) and human dignity etc...et...
If you put America in the same scale as those evil Horrible fatsos in the ME , im surprised really .

The Tragedy of Diego Garcia and what has its Inhabitants endurged for the last 50 years is another tragedy. America wanted a US base but the islands in that part of the world had too many Sea rare turtles that lived on there, America cared about the rights of the turtles instead it chose Diego Garcia and sent its people the ILOIS to the Slums of Mauritus where they have suffered horrible discriminations. their pets were shot by the army they could not take them with them. and britain and america decided it was better to use the Island for the Military .
this Year the people of Diego Garcia won the right to come back , through British courts , they dont mind that the US bases stay , they have no choice but they are happy they can come back home after so much suffering .

Diego Garcia has become one of those secret prisons for the War on terror. there are also secret prisons in morocco, Mauritania , egypt and jordan .

The only valid question is, "Why WOULDN'T Bushco be hiding detainees on Diego Garcia"
