AP:

Ellen DeGeneres says she's done talking about her canine dilemma and is pleading for calm, saying on her show that the controversy surrounding an adopted dog has "gotten out of hand."

During a Wednesday taping of "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," to be aired Thursday, DeGeneres told viewers she wouldn't speak again until the dog, Iggy, is returned to DeGeneres' hairdresser and the woman's young daughters.

The dispute erupted last month when DeGeneres and her partner adopted Iggy, a black Brussels Griffon mix terrier. When Iggy wasn't able to get along with DeGeneres' cats, the couple gave the dog to DeGeneres' hairdresser.

I am not really an Ellen fan, but it did bring a tear to my eye to watch her story, and I being someone who rescused 4 animals, don't like this MUTTY Mom place being so particular about one dog, when there are millions looking for homes. I daresay, they are not a
REAL shelter, as if they were, they would be happy to just have gotten the dog a home. They are most likely a hoity toity Beverly Hills type shelter, who else could get $ 600 for an adoption. Try running a real shelter assholes, how many pitbulls have you gotten homes for. bunch of phonies!

$600 per adoption and Mutt and Moms claims they don't have to file a 990 non-profit tax form because they take in less than $25,000 a year? I call BS.

PLUS, their California Corporation status is suspended, which means they're not supposed to be taking any tax-deductible contributions at all.

PLUS, they are running their "rescue" operation out of the back of a pet supply store.

Something just isn't right here.

This isn't a rationale reaction - regardless if one is an ardent dog advocate or not - it isn't a normal response given the situation. No one has died, no animal has been abused, and it came down to the implementation of preset rules. Ellen's overreaction is like a woman going through perimenopause - the effect of fluctuating hormones plays havoc on serotonin levels in the head and one starts reacting uncharacteristically to every day events. Instead of calling her arrogant, I'd suggest she put her mental health as bigger priority and find a more effective channel for her focusing her emotions.

Ellen is real good at what she does
but if I ever walked into a room with
her show on I'd walk right out.

I hope she likes her next contract for her show even after she signs it .I sure don't want to read this junk again. She must learn the rules are for everyone not those of us who do not have a TV show to sob on for a couple of days.

Three's cruelty to animals and cruelty to people. The rescue group acted irresponsibly and it seems for spite, gave the dog to some family other than the one Ellen gave the dog to. That's cruel. What a bunch of jerks those rescue people are. I suppose if Ellen had offered them a lot of money the dog would have gone back to the her friends.

I know one of these dog rescue types and I thought it was just her. These are obsessive people who would run you down in a heart beat before they let anything unfortunate happen to their darling insects, I mean animals. They are extraordinary wackos.

Why is this news?

From what I've heard from vets, dogs are very adaptable, if the homes are good ones. I doubt if a young puppy is being traumatized at all being in another good home besides her hairdressers. A small child would get used to another dog, too.

Ellen is being a bit ridiculous, imo; since the place won't do what she wants, due to its policies, she should accept it.

It's a dog and not a toy? I think that's exactly what Mutts and Moms is trying to tell Ellen. Ellen adopted and rejected two of their dogs (there was another one before Iggy) and passed Iggy off to her hairdresser. I adopted my dog from Mutts and Moms and can tell you that owner Marina is an absolutely devoted dog lover who has saved hundreds of dogs from the needle (mine included). She is very clear and upfront about her rules. There's no way in hell that Ellen or her partner could have not known that they were required to return the dog to Mutts and Moms. Marina told me that several times before I signed the contract, so it's not a matter of reading the fine print! Marina is basically a one-woman operation. She's given years of her life and much money to the cause of rescuing dogs. She is a bit hard-nosed about things, but not without reason. Her business will probably be ruined because Ellen used her celebrity to blast her on national TV. If you don't like the rules of a particular adoption agency, adopt from the pound or through the classifieds. No one was holding a gun to anyone's head here. If Ellen wants to use the experience to talk about private adoption agencies being too stringent in their requirements, fine. I think it's a worthy topic of conversation. But don't villify an individual who has served her community well.

From your description of her, it sounds like she was used to being the most arrogant person in the room, so to speak (you said "hard nosed", which I take to mean arrogant) -- and she is now stunned that she's met someone as arrogant as herself.

Sounds like justice.

Deckard70: I don't think hard-nosed is synonymous with arrogant. Rigid, adamant are closer. And I said "a bit." And I said "not without reason." "Not without reason" refers to her experiences with people who neglected or were irresponsible with their dogs, in some cases costing the dogs their lives. This is something that tears at the hearts of people who do this work and sometimes makes them "a bit hard-nosed." I don't think Ellen was being arrogant either. Just unfair to someone who doesn't have the money and position to fight back on a level playing field. Mutts and Moms is not city hall or a big corporation, so I don't get why Ellen felt the need to go public with it.

"It's a dog"

That says it all. This isn't Iraq, or torture or losing our rights - it's a dog.

I am sure the organization will find a good home for Iggy. I am sure the little girls will go on to live their lives without this particular dog. Don't we all have disappointments as we grow up?

This is a monumental waste of time for someone who has the public's attention. And it has brought the wingnuts out of the woodwork. There are so many other things she could be standing up for. Ellen, grow up!

>>DeGeneres said several agencies had offered to provide the family another dog, even one that looked like Iggy.

"And unfortunately, Ruby, the little girl, doesn't want another dog, she wants Iggy," said DeGeneres on the show to air Thursday. "It's not a toy that's broken that you can replace. It's a dog."

(Something wrong with the comment feature on my end)

Anyway, anyone sense a lack of perspective here? Are name-dropping pre-teens running the world? The hairstylist and Ellen miss out on a great opportunity to teach those girls about LIFE. You don't always get what you want and rules are important. Even if they aren't always fair.

Life isn't fair, especially if you're a Republican Senator who is infamous for "toe tapping". Sometimes, you just have to do what is best and leave the job Senator C.
