House Democrats failed Thursday to override President Bush's veto of their pre-election year effort to expand a popular government health insurance program to cover 10 million children.

The bill had bipartisan support but the 273-156 roll call was 13 votes short of the two-thirds majority supporters needed to enact the bill into law despite Bush's objections. The bill had passed the Senate with a bigger than two-thirds majority.

While experiencing a painful flashback of being teased and taunted on the playground, little Georgie could not resist the temptation to look down and rub his sweet revenge in their bully faces.
Yeah, Boy! You get you some of that sweet revenge!

Its amazing,

I don't know how any children could have survived without universal healthcare during the 8 years of the Clinton administration.

Can someone explain how american children have managed to make it and grow up without universal healthcare for over 200 years?

Many children did NOT survive and many more did not prosper. US is 41 in infant mortality, ranking with 3rd world countries. The US has among the highest rates of child abuse and child homicide in the world. We have the largest per capital prison population, disporportuately occupied by people with cognitive and behaviorial disabilities.

Our healthcare system rations medical services to the highest bidder. It is literally the best system that money can buy.

Concerning that picture of Bush with the children: Don't we have laws we could invoke to keep Republick perverts like that away from our kids?

I just saw that idiot Fred Barnes on Fox News literally cackling about how the Republicans love it when they are accused of hating kids. I think he's actually become unhinged

The only answer is no further funding for Iraq of anykind, including support contractors, until Bush authorizes SCHIP ... period ... end of story.

Bush isn't a King, isn't a Lord, isn't a God, isn't a Dictator ... he is an employee of the People of the United States and the People of the United States want SCHIP passed.

If Bush wants brinksmanship ... give him more than he can handle!

Amen, Bro,

He doesn't know that any weak spots in the present SCHIP can be Fixed after it is in place. He's like most of the NeoCons, they expect everything to be "Perfect" before it goes into effect. He apparently doesn't know that NOTHING is perfect when it goes into effect! That's a ludicrous as his idea about making legislation "Permanent!" He doesn't realize that we live in a "Temporary" World, where NOTHING is Permanent! Period!

What a colossal screw-up this guy is. Did any of you bother to watch his Press conference from Wednesday? It's still over on CSpan, though they're hiding it so you'll have to dig a little. Go watch it, America. Go see exactly why this guy will be like Pearl Harbor Day -- Remembered in INFAMY! At the conference he performs exactly like a John Gotti would coming out of the Courthouse! Evasive - BS-ing - outright Lying - Shutting off the Reporters in mid question - "I know where you're going with this and I'm just not going to fall for it!"

God, he's Awful............

Bush doesn't want to fix weak spots. The changes Bush asked for would cut one million "rich" kids off the program because the health insurance companies think they can coerce those poor working families who are working 80hours a week, 40 hours for each parent to buy insurance by taking another part time job and working 120 hours, sixty hours for each parent.

Poor kids should get Medicaid, but Medicaid, which was once medical care for all of the poor, is today denied to everyone who is not crippled or pregnant, which is why S-Chip had to be created.

Dems to poor kids: We'll use you as human shields until we can get the middle class insured for free.

Medical care? For the working class. If the working class gets medical care it will take away all their incentive to work. They will lie in hospital beds all day and do nothing.

Next thing you commies will want to feed the poor.

I really cant wait to see how many repug supporters will be screaming about unfair and unjust treatment when they lose their jobs, health care, and 401k plans due to our Feed The Greed republican party.
I think once America becomes the republican vision of death and destruction, they should pass a law that anyone who is at that time, or was registered republican in 2008, will never be eligible for social services and that they do not have to pay taxes for as long as the republican dream world stands. Then again, they probably never have anyway so it wont make a dimes worth of difference.

It is the Republican Walmart Utopia. The working class will stay in the store 24/7 working for food, while happy investors shop for foreign made bargains.

If you can't work, report to the soylent green plant.

Bush could have offered them Pre-Veterans benefits to save face.

A benefit that is near nothing!

It is like the scene in the original "Mr. Deed goes to Town" with Gary Cooper. An unemployed man, whose family is starving, breaks into Deeds mansion and threatens him with a gun because he was feeding donuts to a horse.

One think the homeless in Palm Beach County can get free is a prescription for Seroquil, which prevent impulsive behavior. Not food, not housing, but drugs to keep them from threatening the rich tourists.

They can have the faith based charity office heal them. Bush wants to start paying Benny Hinn medicare money for faith healing.

Every government service should be done away with and taxes collected only to service the ideal Republican world?

If I have it straight, the ideal Republican state will exist only to hire armed mercenary soldiers to patrol the world killing people who do not believe in armed mercenary soldiers patrolling the world killing people who do not believe in armed mercenary soldiers... etc, etc.

Brilliant in it's simplicity.

H.G. Wells wrote about that nightmare Utopia
in his novel "The Sleeper Awakes"

"Boscastle!" Graham turned his eyes to the
youngster. "That was it -- Boscastle. Little Boscastle.
I fell asleep -- somewhere there. I don't
exactly remember. I don't exactly remember."

He pressed his brows and whispered, "More than
two hundred years!"

He began to speak quickly with a twitching face,
but his heart was cold within him. "But if it is two
hundred years, every soul I know, every human being
that ever I saw or spoke to before I went to sleep,
must be dead."

Ron Paul will end the war and the income tax.
With the end of the Empire all things are possible.

Ron Paul is the only candidate that will not only close GITMO, but also all other foreign military bases.
