AP:

House Democrats failed Thursday to override President Bush's veto of their pre-election year effort to expand a popular government health insurance program to cover 10 million children.

The bill had bipartisan support but the 273-156 roll call was 13 votes short of the two-thirds majority supporters needed to enact the bill into law despite Bush's objections. The bill had passed the Senate with a bigger than two-thirds majority.

I don't even have to see who voted to know that at least two Utah reps, Bishop and Cannon stood with Bu$h on this. They did on the first vote. What jerks!!!

Why do we need a military base in Iraq?? What for? Who are we going to lauch against from Iraq? Iran isn't a threat and will never be a threat. All they are capable of doing is talking big. As for them developing nukes, even if they had a nuke what are they going to do with it? The moment they launch Tehran will be obliterated.

If Dubya is so dumb why does he figuratively do to Congress what Clinton literally did to Monica?

"Come on over Nancy and let's talk about that bill you want to compromise on."

"Wear the blue dress - you know the one I like."

"After we talk about the bill you can moisten a couple of dozen of my cigars, I'll take pictures."

The libs want to put in place free birth control so they don't have any consequences from the 11 year olds they advocate free sex for.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 06:20 PM on 10/18/2007

Its better than deluding yourself into believing that abstinence works lol. Would you prefer it if we just got all teenagers a chastity belt???

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 06:23 PM on 10/18/2007

Your position is that sex with 11 year old children is better than abstinence.
I truly hope your parents keep you away from any younger sisters you may have.

What the hell are you talking about you raving lunatic? What does free sex for 11 year olds mean? What kind of sick pedophilia projection is your comment based on?

Mommy, Mommy, Mommy!!! I feel sick and sore all over, Mommy it hurts, it hurts.

Don't worry son, this President loves you, and has sent a message, that you must be brave, you don't need a doctor, just have faith in God, God doesn't want you to suffer, only the Republican Congress and your President does. They believe the pain you can endure today, will only make you a whole lot stronger tomorrow.

Mommy, Mommy, Mommy!!! It still hurts, help me, help me!

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 06:14 PM on 10/18/2007

Don't worry son, the libs know how to make you feel better, first take this little pill and they'll right in.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 06:32 PM on 10/18/2007

Oddly enough the only idiots who make such a perverted assumption to taking birth control pills are Republicans. Was pregnancy that big of a road block for them? Didn't stop the thousands of republican pedophiles who are in the GOP hall of fame now did it?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 06:42 PM on 10/18/2007

You trust kids to abstain from sex but you don't trust kids to take birth control pills. Do you even remember being a teenager?

I'd like to buy you a verb. Arguments are really more effective when presented in complete sentences. And this isn't about liberals knowing about how to care for sick children, it's about liberals (and a large majority of Americans) wanting sick children to be seen by DOCTORS who know how to treat them. May I suggest you take the time you spend here and use it on grammar and logic courses?

that picture of Bush scaring the little children would have been a lot better if one of the cute little tykes spit right the fuck in Bush's eye and then another one kicked Bush right the fuck in the balls -that would have made for a GREAT Photo-op

Ok enough of the rants.....Why does dimlib nation keep trying to pass legislation that they knwo Pres Bush will veto. This was bad legislation. It was a stepping stone to socialized medicine....Pres Bush will sign meaningful legislation...Denny Hastert knew how to present a bill...

rwe you miserable stupid fascist turd, even most repugs think this was a good bill. And one month of your fearless leader's clusterfuck of a war would pay for it. Why do you think both the Senate and House voted for it overwhelmingly? Why do you think famous liberals like Sens. Grassley and Hatch helped push it through? Oh thats right. You don't think.

"The latest CBS News poll, released on Wednesday, found overwhelming support for expansion of the program to include some middle-class uninsured children.

Eighty-one percent of respondents, including 70 percent of Republicans, supported expanding the program. Three-quarters of those who supported expansion said they would be willing to pay higher taxes to finance it. The poll was conducted nationally by telephone Oct. 12-16 with 1,282 adults, and had a margin of sampling error of plus or minus three percentage points."

You're obviously so fucking stupid and sick that you're now in the 24% of the 24%'ers. The turd at the bottom of the cesspool so to speak.

Doesn't your chronic stupidity ever embarrass you?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 06:16 PM on 10/18/2007

If anything at all in your little rant was true the veto would have been overturned.
It wasn't.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 06:33 PM on 10/18/2007

Boy, you are a genius. Do you even know how polling works? First of all, this poll was conducted in February, the Times just printed it in October. That was before all this debate took place.

Second, while it says more Republicans are in favor, it says nowhere that there is a majority. Your statement is false. There is no verification of how many Republicans, Democrats or independents were actually polled.

Third, the question asked only two options to begin with.

Fourth NY Times polls are largely conducted during the day. Who normally is at home during the day? People who work, or people who don't work? If you are not working, would you likely be insured?

As I said before, get all people eligible for medi-cal but who have not enrolled yet up and running and the picture will then be clearer.

Eliminate benefits for all illegal immigrant children, and the picture is even clearer.

Why cannot Democrats do this first, then push the program? Because the jump will be too small and to get further into socialism and socialized medicine, they need a large number to tout.

Do this first and I will be onboard.

And I am curious. I own my home and send my daughter to a fairly pricey private school. By most standards on this site, I am pretty wealthy (though not really). Yet my kid would be eligible. Should she be included?

If you are so interested in helping me, send me your own check so I won't have to keep paying for my private insurance.

Nothing complicated here. Bush simply is too simple to provide any leadership on anything. I'm sure most people in the US realize, he's a nit-wit.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 06:07 PM on 10/18/2007

Can't provide any leadership? It's simply amazing how dumb you libs are.
Run a little scorecard of Bush getting his agenda, as he was elected to do, against the Dems getting their agenda.
If he's a nit-wit and he's been outsmarting you libs for 6 plus years, what does that make you?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 06:35 PM on 10/18/2007

Now really that's not a fair statement. He had congress and the senate for five plus of those years and Dems can't get the votes to override him because none of the Repubs can think for themselves, except Hagel. If you call yourself a Republican at this point in time you should truly be ashamed of yourself. I'm not saying the Dems are wonderful but the Repubs are sheer evil. Be embarrassed, be very embarrassed!

So, what's a defiant Democrat these days? Someone who says 'Let's ask him whether he's really sure he doesn't like it.'? That's about as defiant as I've seen them get.

To paraphrase one of those right-wing POS commenters here, don't interfere, this is Darwin in action. Whether or not one accepts the election results of 2000 and 2004 as valid (I do not), the people of this country have allowed this man to govern, and we are thus stuck with the consequences. In a democracy, 49.999999% of the people (or in this case, more) can lose.

This bill needed to fail!

Nearly all our nation's safety nets have proven to be giant money holes with no ends in sight. Government involvement and oversight has led to corruption, excesses, and wasteful spending in every single one of them. Yet, here Democrats are bitching for more. SCHIP was originally intended to be a safety net to help the most needy among us. But, Democrats want to turn it into another government subsidized handout and the proof is in the bill.

Not everyone this bill is meant to cover qualifies as poor. According to the bill itself, families up to 300% of the poverty line would now qualify. New Jersey will be grandfathered in at 350%. That's about $87K for a family of four, (hardly poor and hardly out of the reach of insurance.) The bill itself is a mess and typical of programs that are written with a lot to hide. Just figuring out who qualifies is difficult but it can be done.

(the full text of bill in its current form)
http://frwebgate.access.gpo.gov/cgi-bin/getdoc.cgi?dbname=110_cong_bills&docid=f:h976enr.txt.pdf

The qualifying age for dependent children in this bill is 19. However, it makes provisions for each state to make/request adjustments. Many states have already passed or are passing legislation that raises the qualifying age of dependents for insurance to an average of 24 years old. Some, again using New Jersey as an example, have raised the dependent child's age limit to age -- 30! --

http://www.ncsl.org/programs/health/dependentstatus.htm

The above website shows where your state is with regard to raising the dependent childs age limit for insurance. It's applicable because this is part of the way in which the Medicare/SCHIP program will be applied within each state.

Democrats are using SCHIP to demonize the very party that created it in the fist place.

If it weren't so typical, it would be shameful.

RSU -

You must be from Mississippi, where even a Democrat - Representative Gene Taylor swallowed the GOP propaganda hook line and sinker. No surprise that MS has the highest infant mortality rate in the entire country. but who cares who dies as long as we are relevant and stand by our bullshit fiscal philosophy.

Socialized medicine - nope - SCHIP uses predominantly private insurers - that doesn't sound like socialism to me.

Yes certain states have higher income gates than others - gee do you think that the cost of living might be higher in NJ or NY than it is in Mississippi? Still even Orin Hatch acknowledges that 92% of the kids covered will be below 2X the federal poverty line.

Furthermore, if a child has a pre-existing condition, the cost of insurance rapidly becomes unaffordable for all but the very rich, if coverage can be obtained at all.

Like most right wing water carriers you blame all big government programs on the Democrats - but who was responsible for shoving the current Medicare senior prescription drug program down our throats - it was our dim bulb Pres and his congressional cronies with their pockets stuffed to the gills with Big Pharma Money.

The right wing slime and propaganda on this issue are nothing but tedious and tiresome exercises in duplicity.

Pelosi should send this back to Bush again, and again until he caves. Why is GOP drinking Bush's Kool-Aid?

Ditto, funding for war. Keep sending the bill with
time lines for withdrawal back to Bush again, and again. With Congress at a dismal 89% disapproval rating - you got a lot to gain!
