Jon Stewart, unlike New York Yankees manager Joe Torre, today agreed to a contract extension. The Comedy Central deal will keep him managing "The Daily Show" through 2010.

"I love doing this show. . . . I look forward to using this extension to having great fun at President Colbert's expense," Stewart said in a statement today. His stablemate Stephen Colbert declared a perhaps limited run for the White House this week.

The Daily Show,Colbert and Bill Maher are my TV sources for news since I am reading news all day. The others in the MSM could learn a thing about interviewing from these guys. BTW I never realized what a total dick head Tucker Carlson was until I saw him on Maher's show.

Jon Stewart and Keith O. are the only must see programs on. Bravo to both! Keep up the great work.

Great news. What a country: news gives us lies, and we turn for Truth to a source that bills itself as comedy.

I recently had a conversation with one of my children about how many older nursery rhymes and children's stories were veiled political statements. In those times, you couldn't boldly and nakedly criticize a regime.

Have we come full circle?

John Stewart is awesome. One of the funniest people in America. I watch his show often.

Colbert, on the other hand, is a VERY different character. Getting his jokes requires a mental back-flip that goes against comedic tradition.

As a corespondent on The Daily Show, Steven Colbert was tremendous.

But building a show around the dim-witted but enthusiastic character he plays has never sat well with me.

I would just like to cast my vote for the word "reup" being the stupidest word appropriated from commerce in the last century.

"to hospital" is the most irritating phrase that pompous newscasters have borrowed from another country and forced onto the U.S.. We're not freaking Britain, thank you very much.

Actually, it's appropriated from post-WWII military slang for "re-enlistment"

BAD-LINK alert please. I clicked here to go to the comments for the NYT story about arresting media execs for story contents about a grand jury probe into the media and readers. There is no other link that I can find for comments. Can you please correct the link? Thank you ahead of time.

QUOTE from NYT: "Michael Lacey, the executive editor, and Jim Larkin, chief executive, where arrested at their homes after they wrote a story that revealed that the Village Voice Media company, its executives, its reporters and even the names of the readers of its website had been subpoenaed by a special prosecutor. The special prosecutor had been appointed to look into allegations that the newspaper had violated the law in publishing the home address of Maricopa Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s home address on its website more than three years ago."

Arpaio should have been arrested for Nazi tactics years ago. But he sure fits in now, with the Bush admin.

This is great news! I am glad he extended his contract. The show is genius.

Good news. Now if he can only find different styles of humor and wear a different suit shirt and tie.

Jon I'm sure President Colbert would want you for a Cabinet position. You would be in charge of reservations for the Lincoln Bedroom. Got to turn a profit.

The good news: he's renewing. The bad news: a LARGE number of Americans watch his show for their daily news. A comedy show is their main source for news all over the world. Does that bother anybody?

It would bother me if it were true. It isn't. Some people may use it as supplemental source of info, and all of them understand it isn't (always) real.

People tune in for the humor. Any real news gleaned in the process is a bonus.

No. I gave up on MSM. I am tired of them rolling over for Bush. Mostly, I read and watch Stewart and Colbert. They are two of the most intelligent interviewers in the business.

OK, I also watch Olbermann.

It's better than watching Fox. To his credit, John Stewart brings guests on his show that rarely get much airtime elsewhere. He had Evo Morales a few weeks ago. Furthermore, John Stewart is making politics relevant to a generation of Americans that had largely tuned out the political process. I have a few friends that don't vote and I tell them that politics matters because if you don't care about politics then politics can happen to you. It boggles my mind why we are not up in arms defending the Constitution against the onslaught that Bush & Company have unleashed our civil and political rights.

That is good news. The prospect of Sen Hillary Clinton becoming POTUS doesn't give those of us who are aged much of a reason to live. But Jon Stewart's DAILY SHOW gives the prospect of some laughs after Hillary is annointed. Living under her Hillaryship could be as glum as living under W & Co. If her Hillaryship exiles Jon Stewart it could get grim. I can't take a chance so I'll call my undetaker & see if he will still cremate me for the $500 I paid him when W 1st took office as POTUS. Her Hillaryship can use my ashes for traction on snowy or icy hills. It will make up for my not having the US flag, aka Old Snaggletooth, on my clothes; won't it?
