Media giant Viacom Inc. is suing YouTube Inc., but it's also taking lessons from the online video service.

In the ongoing quest to make Internet popularity pay, Viacom's Comedy Central channel today will unveil a website for "The Daily Show With Jon Stewart" that's designed to satisfy the most avid fans of the mock-news show with oceans of free video clips.

Rather than providing just a sampling of the program's fare, as Viacom and other TV networks have done for years, Comedy Central is offering the works: about 13,000 video clips representing every minute of the show since its 1999 inception.

One has to wonder what your brain would be like if you sat down and viewed every video.
There's hope, I think, with 13,000 video clips it shouldn't be hard to category stupid and what stupid is.

It"s not really a new site. It"s the same page that"s been available on Comedy Central"s site for a while now. When you type in http://www.dailyshow.com, it just redirects to the original Daily Show page on the Comedy Central site.

This is nothing but a stunt by Viacom to drum up publicity for the Daily Show.

That isn't a microphone, it look like an old fashioned hot shaving cream machine Jon Stewart has on his desk.

I used to really, really, really like Jon Stewart. But Stewart is apart of a problem in television: the lack of inclusion behind the camera.

Jon Stewart's fake correspondents, producers and writers were 100% caucasian for ten years.

He was even taken to task for this by comedian Jordan Carlos, who in a January 2007 recalled his frustration with THE DAILY SHOW:

"I cornered a "Daily Show" writer, doing my best to get the inside track on a possible actor/writer gig. We broached the subject of black correspondents. He told me that they "tried a black guy once, but it didn't work out." I nearly threw my imported beer in his face. Tried it once and it didn't work? You say that about Toyotas, not a whole race of people. But to date, comedy writing is pretty whitewashed. As of this season, "Saturday Night Live" has no black writers. "The Daily Show" also doesn't have any, and neither does "The Colbert Report," a show on which I've played Stephen Colbert's black friend "Alan," a member of the staff. That's right. "The Colbert Report" had to hire an actor to play a black person who works on the show."

So you see, he only brought on a black correpondent when he got letters and calls from people of color like me. He felt the "heat" so he did something.

I wonder if THE DAILY SHOW and THE COLBERT REPORT (both of which are produced by Stewart) now have non-white writers behind the scenes, after the big flap with his longtime 100% caucasian show.

Stewart is very funny, and has great comic timing. But that doesn't erase his lack of sensitivity regarding racial inclusion in what is the most multi-racial, multi-ethnic, and multi-cultural America in history.

Nonetheless, much success to Stewart in this new endeavor. However, I won't log on, because I am no longer a fan of the show.

Not everything is about race. Are you going to require that they have a latino and an asian as well? How about a native american or a pacific islander? Its a television show not a college admissions board.

How many writers do they have anyways? I doubt it is more than 10, probably less.

Ten writers! One of them better be gay.

I fill out my census
with a number two pencil
I write my name down
and then my address.

But soon they are askin'
Are you native Alaskan?
I am in distess

My dad is Hawaian
My mom is part Mayan
So far so good
One Uncle's named Dan O'
Another lives in Milano
Dad call him a hood

I am part Anglo Saxon
Just like Michael Jackson
What would I answer
If I was Tiger Woods?

"Not everything is about race"

Didn't say it was.

I commented that Jon Stewart presided over a show that had a 100% caucasian staff for ten years. That hired no blacks, latinos, Asian-Americans or anyone "non-white", you know, who didn't look like them. They hired gays (white gays), but race and ethinicity seemed to escape them. Producers, writers, and fake correspondents all looked like Jon.

And you want to be glib about this? Racial, gender, and ethnic inclusion are vital and necessary as we move forward as a nation - a nation that everyday is more diverse than the previous day.

And as the head writer, Jon didn't think the group needed a wider perspective? Say what you want. Jon could have officially "integrated" the Daily Show before 2006 if he wanted to. He did it only after being forced. Check the record.

Simply put, he is more comfortable around people who look like him. He feels that people of color make better guests on his show, than actual employees of his show.

As Jon Stewart would say "I think that's a good thing, don't you?"

I do, I do!

Information wants to be free, it's only those who seek to oppress that want it to be otherwise.

You don't have to pay for it. It is free to everyone except the people who spend their time and energy and money to produce and distribute it.

I agree - not worth registering just to read a story - "F" the LA Times and all sites that make you register to read, may they all have no traffic whatsoever!!

Daily Show/Colbert Report are the only serious political shows on TV..

Wish Real Time with Bill Maher was less intermittent.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 02:50 PM on 10/18/2007

Maher sucks. Also, doesn't it bother you that you and others actually get your news from Stewart and Colbert?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 03:22 PM on 10/18/2007

Yes, because that means the others suck hard.

Oh come on, Maher's one of the good guys. And what's up with this "Ginzaman" moniker? Why would you want to associate yourself with Japan. A xenophobic, and VERY sexist country run by slimy right-wing war-criminal apologists.

der, not really since daily show viewers are more informed than fox news........there's a study supporting this. read it and weep for yourself.

TELEVISION? That's so 1970's.

My family gave up on "tv" years ago. Too many commercials, not enough content.
