AP:

Republican rivals Fred Thompson, Mitt Romney and John McCain sought on Friday to become the favorite of anxious social conservatives, each suggesting he offered the best chance of thwarting abortion rights supporter Rudy Giuliani.

"This is not the time to turn our back on the progress we've made on the issues that matter most," McCain, the Arizona senator, told a receptive gathering of "values voters." "I have a record that can be trusted."

Just call or write to the UN. They will tell you all you need to know.

There is probably a website if you aren't too paranoid, by now, to use it.

It's been a year since I posted; however, I notice (that) the comments are as hypocritical as ever. Peace will come about when IDIOTS are no longer in the white house. {:(}

It's so damn funny yet pathetic that these 4 clowns are even in the running. Throw Huckabee who doesn't believe in evolution in there too. What a joke. Only chance they had at a contender was Chuck Hagel and he even admitted on Bill Maher's show several wks bk that he's fed up with the direction the Republican party is turning.

Dumbed down America, these are your choices? geeshe.

The Repubs are history. The Dems have some problems, but it is crystal clear that NOV '08 will be the end of evangelical and Southern Baptist flunkies carrying water for corporate Repubs.
It doesn't really matter which Repub emerges for the general election- Bill Clinton will be enough to stomp him, by reminding America what life was like before the W/neocon insurgency against the Constitutrion. But what will the Dems do?

Maybe one of the Democrat candidates should come out with a statement favoring overthrowing Roe v. Wade.

Obviously the Fundies are a really gullible bunch.

Never would have imagined a presidential candidate telling a funda'mental' crowd he would appoint judges to overturn RoeVWade.

It's not going to happen, it never could have happened and the religious right taliban has been dangling this carrot in front of the fundies for years.

Ever see a million women with lynch in mind..shiver me timbers!

The cons don't really want to see roe vs. wade overturned. That subject is a cash cow for them.

Would also mean the death of the Republican Party.

You are correct. The same is true of the illegal immigration issue.

When they were the majority congress they spoke about it, but never came up with legislation. As soon as the Democrats won back a small majority in the House, they were screaming about illegal aliens and pointing fingers at the Dems. When the President's bill did not pass because of them, they pointed fingers at the Dems, again, but never came up with their own bill.

The conservative base was placated with a 700 mile, partially built fence that does nothing. This is the way the Republicans use their base. Big business is in favor of bringing more illegals in to work for less wages.

It is the Democrats who want equity for all workers. Remember, Democrats supported and still support labor unions. Without the labor unions, wages would be lower than they are today.

As long as they all have the same shared "values" of being pro-torture, spying on Americans and bombing Iran, then what's the difference?

"I refuse to engage in a battle of wits with an unarmed man..." The headline of this article implies some sort of unfair situation, but 3x0 = 0 All repug candidates are therefor on an even playing field.

McCain... The man with No Brain!
Romney: Jesus really did come to the New World
Thompson: "Who would have known..."
Goulionme: "I put the headquarters for the center against terrorism in the World Trade Center, supplied radios that didn't let police/fire communicate, and then denied PPE to rescue workers... proving that I was the best leader on 9/11

It's no wonder the 'values' leadership are so frantic.

What happens when their members finally realize Roe will never be overturned in this country, that amnesty for undocumented workers will be granted and in 20 years gays will be allowed to marry anyway?

That's an awful lot of donations to be saying farewell to.

It did take them a loooooooooooong time to realize how their pet issues weren't the main concern of the Republicans.

It's taking them even longer to realize their pet issues aren't the main concern of their leader$hip either.

What makes you think Roe will never be overturned?

If a Repugnicant is elected president in the next election they will install "conservative" justices for the three justices that are expected to retire.

If that happens, Roe V Wade is gone! - along with the little rest of the Bill of Rights that still apply.

That's the most important reason to elect whichever Democrat is nominated.

Why isn't anyone proposing a pro-choice amendment to the Constitution? It seems to me that's the only way to ensure abortion will remain legal in every state.

The 'values voters' are struggling to stay relevant to their party and for all their hard work and money they are going to be ignored for 'electability' when the party chooses Rudy.

You have to feel bad for the dozen or so of them that are actually human.

I don't feel bad - I just want their churches out of our government as mandated by the First Amendment.

If they do that they can be as deranged and braindead as they wish.
