New York Times:

After Rush Limbaugh referred to Iraq war veterans critical of the war as "phony soldiers," he received a letter of complaint signed by 41 Democratic senators. He decided to auction the letter, which he described as "this glittering jewel of colossal ignorance," for charity, and he pledged to match the price, dollar for dollar.

On Thursday night, Mr. Limbaugh, the conservative radio talk show host, said he thought the letter would bring in as much as $1 million. He was wrong.

Love him or hate him, Limbaugh made fools of the left-wing yet again.

I still haven't heard if the great "patriots" Clinton and Reid are going to pony up $2 mil each in support of veteran and police families.

We all know they can afford it. But will they do it?

I haven't listened to Rush Limbaugh in years. I guess I'll have to start listening to his show again.

These Democrat Senators tried to stifle his 1st Amendment right to free speech by intimidating is boss with their "mighty" signatures.

America is a great country when an uneducated entrapeneur can make fools of the most powerful deliberative body on earth!

At least Reid showed a modicum of class in defeat by acknowleging Rush was doing a good thing by turning this into something positive for the orphans.

This son of a rich lawyer father is "uneducated" only due to bad grades and which led to his dropping out. He can be credited only for exploiting the repeal of the Fairness Doctrain which opened the door to unsubstanitated opinions going unchallenaged. The truth suffers when the devious are allowed to lead and RL exploits fear, envy, and racism- is a lousy a American and the best example of why the rest of the educated world hates our beloved nation.

Have you heard of the First Amendment? I don't recall it mentioning a requirement of the "challenging" of "unsubstantiated opinions".

Just curious if Rusty got the ass obstruction from taking it up the ass from his college buddy Elliott, and his mentor Woodburn, who took young Rusty under his cock, I mean wing in Sacramento, and later died of AIDS, or the boy toy he was busted with in Pittsburg, the real reason for his firing there.

After all, they all refered to him as SPEEDBUMP
LIMPASS.

Okay, so let me get this straight:

Rush Limbaugh puts a letter from Harry Reid up for auction on eBay; the winning bid is $2 million and Rush says he'll match the winning bid. The money goes to a charity for which RUSH LIMBAUGH IS THE DIRECTOR, and then RUSH LIMBAUGH gets a hefty tax break for donating to his OWN CHARITY? My nose is vibrating from the stench of the corruption. Can you say I.R.S. TAX FRAUD, boys and girls?

"When the eBay auction closed yesterday afternoon, the winning bid was $2.1 million..."

"The money will go to the Marine Corps-Law Enforcement Foundation Inc., a nonprofit organization in New Jersey that provides scholarships and other assistance to families of marines and federal law enforcement officials who die or are wounded in the line of duty. Mr. Limbaugh is a director of the organization, which had total revenues of $5.2 million last year."

And your point is?

Rush gets the same "break" that you or I would get for making a contribution to any charity which is approved by the IRS.

A Director of a charity contributing to that very same charity???????

Damn! Revolutionary! What novelty! Absolutely earth-shattering!

I mean stop the damn presses! Read all about it! You heard it here first!

The Director of a charity contibuting to that very same charity - I mean really; how disgraceful can one man be? Just how low can one man go?

Rush why don't you save face and admit the self-purchase of the worthless leter!
Who are you anyway? All you do is put your foot in your mouth...Its not a crime to shut up!

I'm sure the winning bid was from Rush himself. Bidding in secret of course. Surely no one is stupid enough to pay $2Million for this. Oh wait, I forgot who is audience is.
Nevermind...

No, it was from Betty Casey of the Eugene Casey foundation. It's not so hard to do research is it? But I guess it's more fun to cook up a new conspiracy theory.

What really gets me about this whole thing is that limbaugh felt that he had to pony up over 2 million dollars to buy some credibility with the military. To me it shows very clearly that he stuck his foot in his mouth big time and he knows it.

This article was really generous to the one phony soldier that Rush was talking about. He wasn't just "critical of the war", he was a flat-out liar who claimed to be a combat veteran who witnessed all these atrocities. And it was all in his imagination because he washed out of Basic and never left the US. What part of "phony soldier" didn't you people understand?

the part where he said phony soldiers....the part where he said they. Do you know the difference between plural and singular. He changed his story after he got all the critisism for his comments. You know later when real soldiers from Iraq attacked him for his words. That's when he called a real soldier a suicide bomber, and also said he was to stupid to think for himself. This same soldier had been injured in a roadside bomb. Still not a real soldier in Rush's eyes, because he doesn't agree with the draft dodging Rush

How many times to idiots like you need to be reminded that Limbaugh said "phony soldierS?" That's PLURAL. Plural means "more than ONE." This is a CLEAR indication that Limbaugh was NOT talking about ONLY Jesse MacBeth. In fact, MacBeth's name never came up until minutes after Limbaugh and the caller who sparked the "phony soldiers" discussion were done talking.

To further highlight his hypocrisy and dishonesty, Limbaugh then posted audio recording and a transcript in which he edited out those minutes of other conversation as a way to falsely make it appear as if he had been talking about MacBeth. If Limbaugh had REALLY been discussing Jesse MacBeth, why would he have altered his audio recording and transcript? That act shows consciousness of guilt.

The actual context of the back and forth between Limbaugh and his caller make it blatantly obvious that when Limbaugh said "phony soldierS" (again, I remind you "soldiers" is plural) he meant anyone in uniform who has served in Iraq and is critical of the Bush administration's Iraq policy.

I suggest you quit lying in your defense of Limbaugh -- you can hold your own opinion, but when people have the ability to compare the doctored audio recording and transcript to the real one, you lose the ability to hold your own facts.

And while I think of it, does anyone wonder for a second how interested in "free speech" the alleged purchasers of Limbaugh's letter was when the Cornyn resolution was under consideration? I guarantee you they were nowhere to be found when the question of free speech involved dissenters who are critical of Bush and Petraeus.

Rush was just rambling on about McBeth and other people like him (heck, John Kerry said pratically the same thing about a different war in a different decade). I'm not going to defend every thing Rush has ever said. But I do sometimes listen to his show live and I heard that conversation and that's more than 99% of you people who whine about Rush can say. You only hear about this stuff through Media Matters, which is a hack partisan organization, totally against free speech, and set up to try to stifle conservative talk shows and other stuff they deem to be not politically correct (like Don Imus). Shame on them, not Rush, because if I didn't like his show, I just won't listen, but Media Matters is saying that people need to be forced off the air for having the wrong kind of opinions.

Personally, I think it's just an attempt to make Rush not seem as worthless as we all know that he is! He is good for something since the money is going to charity!!!

WOW! The laughs continue; 600 comments on the mighty HuffPo, and here I am thinking that Rush is "irrelevant" to libs.

First, the letter was neither "angry" nor was it sent to Rush.

It was a formal letter signed by 41 Dem Senators, including Shrillary (a factoid NEVER mentioned by the drive-bys), sent to Clear Channel Communications (Rush's sydication partner) demanding that it censure Rush & that he be "made" to apologize for his comments.

Remarkable how the open-minded, warm-hearted libs love censorshuip and the denial of the First Amendment - Really warms my heart.

The "buyer" of the letter made it quite clear that she did so to protect Rush's (or anyone else's) free speech which of course is anathema to the libs.

Secondly, the Dems could not possibly have given more positive publicity to Rush & his show; Rush needs to thank them for their free advertising.

Finally, Reid, et al, need to be wary of tangling with Rush; cleary the proverbial "boy vs. man" encounter.

Dems are only successful when they can intimidate & bully & "majority" rule. When the Dems try to play evenly & openly on a "level playing field," they are no match for their adversary as Rush illustrated here.

Everyone has the right to free speech, no one here is denying that. It's his right to use the public airways to promote hate and spread lies that we are opposed to. If he wants to stand on the street corner and tell vets they are phony let him. Also if you're such a champion of free speech, I bet that's why you didn't say boo about the Move on ad right. Free speecha nd all, you must have just said hey it's their right to question the government. It must also be why when I asked you in an early post to condemn the right calling for the public hanging of the Frost child that you never answered. You must have thought they had a right to say that too.

Once again, off-base.

MoveOn was given preferential treatment & was called on it; it's you libs who have "invented" fair trade. If the NYT charged "x" to MoveOn for its advertising, then by "fair-trade" law it is required to provide the same "deal" to any other party. Rudi "called them on it," & the NYT admitted to giving MoveOn preferential treatment.

The Frost child's "argument" was erroneous; what is it about this that you refuse to "get?"

The Frost child was covered by S-CHIP & would have been covered by the new version of S-CHIP.

What the child was "asking for" was that the S-CHIP program be EXPANDED to cover families with incomes of $82,000 & with "children" (sic) up to the age of 25.

Let's be serious; the Dems were too afraid to make this position themselves and so had a 12 year old "speak for them" and then tried to mute legitimate criticisms of what the 12-year old said by claiming, erroneously, that conservatives were slandering the child.

Not true. It was the child 's MESSAGE that was being criticized; the Dems should be blamed for having a child put forth ideas which they, themselves, were too cowardly to put forth.

By the way, I don't get the S-CHIP criticisms from various states.

If Corzine & Schwarneggar (sp?) want to expand S-CHIP, they have every means available within their own states to do so.

It's yet another example of Governors criticizing President Bush for failing to do what they, themselves, refuse to do.

Let them raise thier own state's taxes & fund S-CHIP; no one is stopping them.

Leave it to Rush to find a way to self-promote on his own bad behavior. And the affrontery to DEMAND that Democrats put up money for HIS chosen charity!
Rush never ceases to amaze with his arrogance. Oh wait--Bush often tops him.

Why Arianni, WHY, has this been one of the top of the fold stories for 3 DAYS? Are you trying to rub it in that the Dems were ONCE AGAIN outmaneuvered by the Republican right wing?

I honestly do no understand it!!!

Whose is surprised at this really? The Right Wing turds who are destroying America have lots of money. They borrowed from China and stole it from the US Treasury via their unwarranted tax breaks.

2 million dollars is chump change to them.
